ParticipantOTOH i don’t see the big deal if i post for a friend who isn’t able to this week. or in the case of coupes who are both fark members so what if one posts both their entries. i have non totalfark married friends who both enter on occasion and frankly have no idea if one or the other or both post their entries. and don’t care.
it’s not like you get half credit for posting the entry.

ParticipantApparently, someone else sitting at your computer with your account already set up and prepared to post, without even sharing your password with them is account sharing.
yeah i hadn’t read the FAQs at fark recently.
Stealing or guessing other people’s passwords, giving or loaning your password to other users (especially TotalFark passwords), or otherwise using or sharing accounts that aren’t yours. This includes attempting to create extra accounts or using someone else’s account to evade bans. That last one bears repeating – if you create another account while your account is suspended, your new account will be locked and you may be subjected to a longer or even permanent posting ban.
i had intended to OBO staplermofo anyway but the above is pretty strict.
Curious
Participantserious question. what constitutes account sharing?
Curious
Participantno i was serious. see i’ll even post my own password *******
odd it posted asterisks. try posting yours.
Curious
Participanti’ll do it, just post your password here for me ok. 🙂
do you want the text as captions or just the images?
Curious
Participantjust as well. the oldest i’ve used was in the “night time” contest and it was from ’75 or so. in fact all three of mine in that contest were from that time.
Yeah, I’m going to have to call BS on that one.
I mean, there’s no WAY people took pictures that long ago. What did they store the pictures on? Memory cards only came out in the Nineties.
/in 1975 I was still learning how not to poop in my pants
//still learning

Participantthanks folks 🙂
i ask this for another contest but does anybody have a monkey i could spank?
I got a couple.
image of monkeys
And theres a couple more that have been added to the collection.i’m going to live up to my user name here — why are there 5 of the same one?

ParticipantThere’s no limit to the age of a photograph, is there? There’s one I took probably in 86-87 …
There’s no age limit on photos,

ParticipantThat shouldn’t matter so long as the web host supports PHP? That’s the scripting language that Gallery2 (and about half the web) uses. But I don’t know much about FrontPage other than it spits out some funky code and requires hosts that support it for publishing.
my web host supports PHP but in reading the Gallery FAQs it mentioned conflicts with FrontPage. don’t have the details handy but FrontPage doesn’t play well with a lot of stuff. i knew that at the time but a) i had it b) the WYSIWYG part made it easy for what i was doing at the time. i used Image Ready7 for the galleries i have now and while they work they aren’t all that hot.
frankly for the very occasional visitor i get the site is fine but it’s crude and could really do with a make over. right now my farktography and photoshop entries aren’t visible as galleries they are just hosted there but it would be nice if i had them where folks could see them easily.

ParticipantGallery is a web based software product that lets you manage your photos on your own website. You must have your own website with PHP and database support in order to install and use it.
oopsy. did my website in MSFrontPage 2000 which was all i had at the time. guess the time has come to do that long awaited overhaul of the site.

ParticipantI use Gallery2 http://gallery.menalto.com/ on my server, but I’ve been woefully bad at updating it for the contests. What I need to start doing is rather than posting both sizes in a folder, is have the small one in a contest folder, and the larger one in the gallery and linked.
The big thing you need there is access to a MySQL database, but your host should be able to do that for you.
according to my C/Panel page i have MySQL database thingy. i’ll download gallery and give it a try. thanks.

Participanti too have a pro account which i use for general internet sharing. my paid hosting has my website and separate folders for farktography and photoshop entries.
i really should learn how to create galleries for my flickr collections put them on my website and just let flickr go. part of the problem i have is not knowing how to set permissions and/or use htaccess.

ParticipantAnd some shots are just so esoteric (many of mine included) that without a title of some sort to get the viewer thinking along the lines of the photographer, it can be difficult to see why the Farktographer thought that particular picture fit the theme – which is one of the main criteria I look for when voting.
no knock intend but if a shot is that esoteric/far off theme IMHO it doesn’t deserve votes. now i have used captions to nudge folks to vote but it defeats the purpose of having a theme.
look those that know me know i’m anal about trying to maintain some purity to what i think the contests are all about. and that is first fun but then a place to post your shot at matching this weeks theme. at 640 pixels and all done in camera. and while i like votes as much as the next guy/gal sometimes it seems getting votes takes preference over the fun.
YMMV 🙂
Curious
Participantit wouldn’t hurt my feeling at all if we simply outlawed the “click for bigger” option. while i find that the 640 pixel limit doesn’t do a lot of photos credit it is what it is.
i know that there are levels of skill, equipment and post processing that make even the 640 photos unequal but posting what amounts to a thumbnail of your image and then saying “this is the real photo” is disingenuous.
