    Goddammitsomuch Ennuipoet.

    The irony irony is that orionid was going to use a version of that pond too, black and white and almost EXACTLY the same as yours.

    They are two vastly different perspectives, if orionid HAD done that we would OWN the thread! No one would believe it wasn’t planned.

    Film is a labor, now it is a labor of love for some, but a lot of damn work not matter how you go about it. Soon, very soon, the photo machines will be gone from stores as the profit margin on keeping them running evaporates. I shot three rolls for tonight and didn’t around to running them through the tanks because…well…it’s a lot of work. I’ve built up and extensive scanned film archive as I work my way through boxes of slides and negatives, which again…is a lot of work.

    I don’t blame anyone for sitting out tonight. Shooting analog in a digital world just isn’t simple any more.

    Resurrecting a necro-thread. Kit Lens’ clients:

    The film got warped in the camera, but otherwise came out looking good, if not a little quirky. That is, until you view full res and see the look on the brides face.

    Hah! I thought the look on her face was a comment on why a wedding photographer would be shooting on a kit lens! 😛

    And on the note of not finding b/w film, mods,–is it okay to take pictures with b/w in mind, then scan them as such, or is that going too far from ‘film’. I just shot a roll that I’d envisioned in b/w until I found nobody carries it (except one shop too far away to drive to). I shot it anyway.

    B/W conversions are always fine.

    My opinion differs from orionid’s. I think the spirit of the theme is pretty strict.

    But, honestly and truly, it’s just an opinion. And it’s not even a strong one, at that.

    I want to agree with you U-Man, the film purist in me says that if you know you are shooting film make up your mind, commit to color or black and white BEFORE you shoot. But, today, with black and white film and processing hard to come by outside of your kitchen sink…I think we have to let post process conversions in. Even finding C41 B&W film these days is not easy outside of a camera store and the last time I had C41 B&W developed (three or so years ago) at a drug store the photo tech was convinced his machine was damaged because the film came out B&W, he apologized when he gave the me the prints. I had to break it to him gently that it was supposed to be that way.

    For 300.00 you can buy two Yongnuo Flashes (http://speedlights.net/2010/05/27/yongnuo-yn-560-vs-canon-580ex-ii/) softboxs for both and light stands and have one hell of a sflash set up Strobist style. The learning curve for manual flashes is steep at the start but once you have the basics down you can really work on the fly. With two strobes you can balance the lighting beautifully (tho, three can be better) and do pro work in small spaces and outdoors.

    If you haven’t read Lighting 101 at Strobist, it will help you get started.

    On the few times I’ve been called to do portrait work (so far) it’s been by people who need shots about what they do rather than a formal sitting. I simply tell them to do their thing and I will worry about the photography. I actually have an offer to photograph a dancer coming up next month which will again be her dancing. I find formal portraits uncomfortable for everyone, if you can have someone DO something they forget (a little) about the camera.

    Can someone provide me with the UTC offset for Farkistan? Of course, I have no idea where in the world I’ll actually be in 5 weeks.

    Does Farkistan observe summer time? I always thought it was in the tropics. 😀

    Standard time zone: UTC/GMT -5 hours (Standard time will be in effect when this contest is live)

    It’s been a long time since I had to deal with this kind of stuff!

    Are scanned from film images OK?

    No. We’re going to mail prints around to each of us. 😯

    Sorry. I’m just in a silly, sassy Friday mood. Please take no offense.

    / I’m sure I will archive dive for kid pics I took before my first Canon Powershot G3.

    //However, Mr. Mopsy recently gave me his Canon FTb with 50 mm f/1.4. He had a friend “get him the good lens” during a trip to Japan in the 70’s so it might be an f/1.2 but I don’t think so. I also have some expired 35 mm film… I just might get out this weekend.

    I was going to hold a print up to a webcam…

    Original Q:
    OK, serious question, though I am keeping the compression going: Can the part of the triptych be non-living? Lemme esplain…no, there is too much, let me sum up, My idea is a triptych close up on one hand fretting/playing guitar, the middle panel of the just the neck and strings no hands and the final trip being the fingers picking/strumming. Does this the inclusion of the center panel without organic matter rule this idea out?

    Farktographer’s Reply
    IMO, if the “subject” of the overall triptych is the guitar, and the hands are just an accessory, then it’s not valid.

    I wouldn’t say the subject is the guitar, rather the subject is person playing the guitar. It is limited in scope to the hands and fingers, but it is the person. I suppose I could include hands chording on the center shot of the Trip.

    So we’re all on the same page, right?

    Right. And cars are alive, right?

    They consume, they excrete, they are mobile, modern ones even have brains that think

    They still don’t reproduce though.

    wanna bet?

    Until I see little Smart cars waddling away, it didn’t happen.

    How many nested quotes can we get?

    At some point they’ll collapse in on themselves and form a black quote hole.

    I wanna see that in a twisted kinda way 😈

    A hole from which no substance can escape.

    Past the point of no return.

    Would it help if we divided by zero?

    do
    {
    quote(last_post);
    }
    while (true);

    I’m dizzy now…thanks!

    Just wait until Elsinore gets back.

    So will the forum engine start line wrapping the earlier ones at some point?

    Wheres my black quote hole?

    Improbability passing 10,000 to 1. Passing 100,000 to 1. Passing 1,000,000 to 1. Approaching infinite improbability. Standby.

    You know, it kind has that Mayan temple thing goin’ on now. Xtapolopacetl is pleased.

    U-Man‘s original post is getting narrower, but not as quickly as I might have thought. Perhaps there’s a quantum effect in force.

    Keep going, guys! I think if we compress the first quote enough, we might be able to finally discover the Higgs-Boson.

    Oh good Lord.

    /still playing along

    I must get in on this experiment

    Well it would seem we are definitely all on the same page now! Question answered U-Man

    Woohoo! U-Man’s text shrank.

    I wonder if the next nested quote shrinks too.

    I wonder what this stepped pyramid looks like in side-elevation…

    Are you mad? The human mind can’t cope with that kind of horror!!!

    :mrgreen: Hope mrgreen doesn’t break the thread!

    This is too funny!

    I’d say so, but I’m easily amused.

    Simple things for simple minds?

    Man, this is still going on,… Shouldn’t you people be out photographing something?

    We are approaching the point not even light can escape!

    I say we keep moving forward, beyond the event horizon

    Just for clarification, Street Fairs are (ah hah!) fair game? My entries all revolve around people at the San Gennaro Festival at ten day long orgy of grease, tacky prizes and something about a dead Italian they wedge in there for about ten minutes between the greasy food and prizes.
