ParticipantIt definitely ain’t “art” photography. Everything is shot at f8 to f11 because you need good DoF to see the stadium. It’s all Flash work, the shadows are hell in the stadium and everything is WIDE to give the booth techs plenty of room to crop the photo. (For me, this is the hardest part, I like to concentrate on faces and eyes when I shoot).
Sounds like good guidance for Fark Con. I’m rocking the 10-24 zoom and 580EXII for most occasions here. They worked great in Las Vegas. I don’t ask for permission here before I snap so I can get candid shots. However there are many people who recognise me from last year and mug for pics.
Yeah, it kills me to shoot like this, I hate shooting wide and I HATE using a flash for candids. But, you do what you have to do.
I spent today wrangling Japanese auto dealers doing group shots, no English, one interpreter for 30 people and limited space to shoot…damn, by the time I am done here I will be able to shoot ANYWHERE

ParticipantSounds like fun except for being around yankee fans.
Hey, to me, all fans are the same 😕 Too loud, too drunk and way too into the game.
Besides, my god, the Guido girls!

Participant^he…he covers for Gwinny (as I do on occasion…both of us will be next week).
But weird on the login thing. Zeke’s been out of town, but is back, though catching up on some scout stuff tonight. I’ll mention it to him. Nothing under the hood has changed recently, though….when did this start? Any info is good, so header traces, whatever, thanks 🙂
Eeek! is a HE? For years I thought he was a she. And I am not sure why. Of course a lot of people think I am she as well. Apparently Ennuipoet is not the most masculine of monikers, that I and occasionally like to dress as Marilyn Monroe.

ParticipantO’ hai guy!

ParticipantSomebody supposedly named Eeek! sponsored me for a month of T-Fark. I tried to say thank you, but when I went to look at the profile for an email address, there apparently was no such user (tastes like chicken).
If you’re reading this Eeek!, thank you!
If you know who Eeek! is, please say thank you to them for me.
Eeek! is one of the Mods, she covers for Gwinny when Gwinny is offline.

Past, present, future…It’s part of a series I am shooting of Storefront Psychics in NYC.
I hope to expand it someday to include the actual psychics who work there, but I don’t want to spend money on dozens of “Readings”.

ParticipantI just wanted to say to people archive diving that you don’t need to personally own the thing, but you should be able to USE the thing.
Define “use.” Let’s say it’s an item so obsolete you could not “use” it, but if you hopped in a time machine you would be set (for example, but not my shot, Confederate money).
Depending on your answer, I may have to access one of my Bs (the other B is an alternative to the one I’m asking about)
That’s tricky, on the one hand I would like to keep the theme as open as possible, yet aside from orionid‘s 19th Century Merchants in Lower VA, I wouldn’t say that one could USE Confederate money, one HAS Confederate Money. However, if you were to set up a shot where you were paying for something with said money, real or staged, then I would say it works, imagine the kid at McDonald’s taking a Confederate bill.
And don’t think I do not appreciate the irony that contemporary Virginia will accept Confederate money while know it was basically worthless a year before the end of the Civil War. Bakers would take a bill and lay it on gingerbread, cut off a piece the shape of the bill and that was how much the money was worth.

ParticipantI just wanted to say to people archive diving that you don’t need to personally own the thing, but you should be able to USE the thing. If you have access to a Apple IIE and could, theoretically use it, it fits. An Apple IIE in a museum , not so much. Have a friend with an old fashioned crank phone, yes, old fashioned crank phone in a store window, not so much. Also, HOW you do things is viable, if you like to use a telegraph to send your birthday greetings, then that is good for this theme. Old toys, out of date fashions, outdated video games, a cellphone without a camera 🙂

(which I thought I had but apparently threw away) if it’s available to you and outdated, it most likely fits.
Hopes this opens up some archive shots for folks.

ParticipantSo does replica old stuff count? I have a replica Remington cap n ball pistol but it is no where near old. Looks pretty old but it is only around 5 years old.
Yup, besides if you don’t mention it whose going to know? Unless of course this guy calls in a buddy who knows a lot about things like that:

Copyright Scripps Media? WTF? Them’s fightin’ words! Not even a photo credit (I don’t mind the ‘little’ bloggers so much, but ABC news? Suggestions? (mine is the third image, though a smaller version of it).
//cool link; I’ll use this often!
“Last image © Russell Vallelunga 2013” Looks like you were at least attributed.
I would start with a polite email pointing out that it is polite to ASK before they use a photo. Where I went from there would depend on their reply. It IS a bit annoying to have THEIR copyright warning splashed all around when they are using yours without permission.

ParticipantI have no weapons to shoot, and if I posted a picture of my gun you would be jealous and then I would get banninated for violating content rules…

ParticipantI suppose Yankee fans are the Texans (state not team) of the baseball world. Loud, undeservingly proud of something they had nothing to do with and cannot wait to talk to you about something you don’t care in the least about.
*ahem* I’m not a Texan, but I’m getting close to a quarter century here (half my life, God help this mountain boy). There are pros and cons.
Also mostly Texan. We certainly have no monopoly on loud, overbearing types,.. a few of my best friends are very “Texan”. OTOH they’d also give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. Just as I’m sure New Yorkers would do,.. did do during Sandy and 911 to name a couple. On balance I’m glad I’m here. Not much of a City Boy, although it’s nice to visit one now and again.
I have nothing against Texans per se, just using them as an allegory for folks who loudly proclaim their pride in their home state. New Yorkers, at least those of us who came here for reasons other than an HBO comedy centered around three women who talk about sex, tend to throw that fact up a lot. The only difference is, most of us moved here from somewhere else, thereby choosing to be New Yorkers…most Texan’s are from Texas because their parents had sex there. 😛

ParticipantShooting Yankee fans sounds fun. What kind of gun?
It’s odd how that reaction seems to be universal. I suppose Yankee fans are the Texans (state not team) of the baseball world. Loud, undeservingly proud of something they had nothing to do with and cannot wait to talk to you about something you don’t care in the least about.
