Poker night tonight, and haven’t put together the photos…have them all selected and some pre-edited, but no compilations. Let’s hope drunk me can pull out some artistic stuff without falling asleep before posting time.

I so wish I had started these earlier. Work is getting in the way. Family is coming to my house for Turkey Day and I’m gonna be getting ‘the look’ from Mrs. U-Man when I’m doing these instead of cleaning up and such.

I’m having a lot of fun with it, and while I’m sure I’m not going to get everything I want out of my shoots this time around (same as you, put it off too long), I’m hoping to apply it to future shots for friends and fun.

/I always thought Mrs. U-Man was just called U-Woman…

    Yes. Yes I am.

    /FTFY.

Also, it’s working – I’m planning to set one up tomorrow morning (it’s about 11 at night here right now…not in the right mindset to play with such things).

…we are supposed to get our digital prints on cd after 6 months (which is this month, still waiting)…

Hah! My brother had to wait over a year for his to finally arrive 😆

Crap, crap, crap…I put off the final of my triptychs until this past weekend, but it’s been rainy. Weather said it was going to clear up, but here it is, Monday night, and it’s still raining. Now the forecast shows no clear weather until Wednesday. That’ll be cutting it close…I want to shoot at night, I have something in mind, so hanging out with an umbrella wouldn’t work too well 🙁

    PLEASE go away, stupid rain!

I bring my camera and one or two of my favorite lenses (that changes every week or so) with me to work every day, just in case.

I’ve bugged the reception of my lab several times, and they finally caved and got me a locker. Woot, gonna start bringing my camera with me every day 😀

I was hoping to pick out some favourite shots and display them in coffee shops around the area, and maybe do a photo shoot for people once in a while for spare change, but taking the plunge into full-time photography…that’s exciting!

    You guys… *shakes head*

Perhaps I should stop worrying about stepping on toes with this one and just stick with the initial wording – with one minor change to get rid of the layout clause.

Take three different photos of different parts of the same subject and combine them as a triptych for a single fark-sized entry. As usual, you can submit three entries. Difficulty – The subject must be alive.

It sounds like y’all just want me to make a farking decision. Right? So let’s let it stand as above, recognizing that a full-view plus two parts is OK.

gambitsgirl – yes. Your three are OK.
Any layout is OK as long as it has three panels. A single background photo with two inset panels is OK.

    Roger.

Anyone else think he’s completely wrong?
There are tons of other photography styles flourishing. Pop art photography is huge, fantastic art photography is huge with these new digital whatsits, abstract is very popular, etc.
As they say in music: if it all sounds the same to you that just means you don’t like that genre.

I definitely see the flaws in his argument for that reason. The wine analogy I made earlier about how people can’t force you to like something you don’t goes both ways…if you like the Duss style, you like it – nobody can sit there and convince you to hate it.

There is nothing wrong with the style or Duss School shots, I just think people are shown examples of something and they start thinking “that’s how it is supposed to be”.

I agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly. I try to expose myself to different types of photography for just that reason – I want to learn a bit of each and develop my own pathway of photography, rather than having a “type” of destination in mind. That’s part of the reason why I love these farktography contests so much – they expose me to different things that I would never have done before.

Somehow I missed the idea of different parts making the whole and ended up with a same subject different poses/positions. Therefore, the two attached, definitely would not fit the theme as it should be, correct?

I can reshoot and come up with at least one..possibly still working on my “evil” theme, but what about the possibility of allowing them for this contest & then making a tighter more restrictive one a little later? Yes that probably sucks for the ones who have shot and got it right, but they could still use them for this one and maybe shoot new for the next? Or are we totally trying to stay away from similar themes, at least fairly close to each other? Just an idea.

Either way, I’m okay with whatever is decided. I have off on Tuesday so I can spend all day shooting if need be 😛 Maybe my writing group will allow me to take a couple shots! heh

The way I’m interpreting it, the first one is *close* (the left and right images are very similar as far as “parts” go, so if you used another part of your hand to make the final symbol, maybe that’d fly?) but the second doesn’t fit.

    U-man’s call, though.

The wording as it stands was clear to me–parts of whole of the same living subject. The subsequent discussion muddled things for me. Also, people can certainly still archive dive if it’s three different parts–people can crop as desired to isolate different subject parts.

But whatevs. I haven’t shot for this yet and not sure what to do with it because time keeps on slippin’ slippin’ slippin’ into the future….

The wording was very clear to me, too – U-man even posted examples of what he had in mind in the first place. Perhaps those should be re-posted. I don’t think we should be loosening up the rules on this one – I still don’t have all of my shots, and it’s definitely not too late for other people to get appropriate ones.

If anything, I feel loosening the rules of this theme makes it suffer. This is one of those themes that pushes you outside your element and forces you to think outside the box – if we break it down to the lowest common denominator so people can archive-dive and do easy shoots, it’s going to hurt everyones’ advancement as photographers. I’d rather have it set the way U-man originally envisioned it, even if it means lower participation for the sacrifice of higher quality.

Just my (for some reason rather strong for this theme) opinion…. I see this being a potentially epic theme, and don’t want it simplified for simplicity’s sake.

Maybe I just read too much into it because I really, really don’t like pretentious photos. Ennui, those photos you posted aren’t what I’m considering in that category. If those photos are Duss style, then perhaps I need to investigate more into what I’m talking about – I was thinking more about the hipster photo of a lone chair in the middle of the field with lots of contrast and ta-da, calling it high art.

/Not allowing myself to read too many photography journals until I get these chemistry books finished =P Oh, but there IS going to be a lecture soon in my school based on the chemistry behind film exposures, so I’m definitely going to that!
