I was really intimidated by this contest when i saw it coming up, because i’d never done a panorama before. But I think mine came out technically fine, especially compared to some of the jagged and/or lighting-issue submissions. I still have a lot to learn about this topic, but I feel good that I even ended up wanting to submit three!

My complaint with this kind of contest is that so many of the images totally lose their impact in the thread, even if they look great embiggened. Just a feature of Fark’s picture posting limitations, hey, what can you do?

you know, despite actually already having my pix set up for this, every time I see the contest name out of the corner of my eye it looks like “paranoiacs” 😛

Yeah, I almost wonder how many noobs vote for anyone but themselves, especially with the sudden influx of noobs. This has got to be the WORST personal standing I have ever had (thus far anyway). Soosh, I always love your shots, almost makes me want to move to Juneau, I’m not big on island livin’ though. Perhaps I will visit someday.

And imo, half naked girls are a cheapshot…especially on fark 😛 No offense to corsec or anything, he’s not the only one.

I never vote for my own stuff… I think it’s a bit tacky and furthermore wouldn’t exactly matter very much in my standings. So I get 56th place instead of 57th (to pull numbers out of my hat). Not a big deal. Hell, even if I were somewhere in the top 10 it wouldn’t be that big of a difference and I still wouldn’t do it… If other people don’t like my pix well enough to vote for them, oh well. 😛

As for half-naked… 😉 My husband and I thought his pix would do better, particularly the color one that’s inline (and has about half as many votes as the B&W.) I thought the colors were awesome in that picture, but apparently the majority wasn’t impressed. Maybe it’s that “cheapshot” angle, but he was really going for art, I thought. Or I should say that I agree with the “art” of them or I wouldn’t have let him submit them. *shrug*

OTOH my pictures did better than I thought they would, considering that I don’t think they are terribly impressive. We’re still talking about a minuscule number of votes, but hey, I appreciate the appreciation, no matter how slight. 😉 For reals! 🙂

Got some ideas for this and can’t put it off for the last minute, since the contest is the day after surgery and I’ll be lucky if I’m with it enough to post ’em. If not I’ll have the hubby post them on my behalf. I’m really hoping I’ll be good to post ’em myself. If the hospital has free wifi (and it does, oh yes it does) then I intend to use it, loopy or not. 😛

Finally at least took some panoramics, and have a rather whimsical idea to try for another. So I’m going to give it the ol’ college try. 🙂 My camera doesn’t lend itself well to this kind of stuff, alas. Could be much worse I suppose, but it’s not ideal.

The important thing is to have something to submit, to learn something while you find your pictures and learn even more when you see what other people did with the contest. To have fun! 🙂

Despite my failure mentioned above, let me state right now that I know for sure that while i might get a few votes this coming week, this Orange contest is the next one I’ll do at all well in. So nobody can say that I didn’t see the failures of the next couple of weeks coming. 😛

I have a pile of panoramas to choose from. Narrowed it down to four… now its a toss up between circumzenithal arc or worthington glacier. Hmmmm.

heh, so long about 2002 someone bought my older daughter — now 8 — a winnie the pooh night gown that is totally orange. My almost 7 year old daughter is still wearing the damn thing even though it gives a scandalous view of her panties when she does. Yesterday I went back through years of photographs and it appears that not once in six years did either of my children get photographed wearing this nightgown. hahahaha!

Is a dock considered a boat terminal? I’m having trouble finding the definition of boat terminal, although i have found it in enough instances to know that the phrase does exist.

I’m not a mod, but if a port is a terminal, i think a dock should be.

I was wondering myself if the abrupt end of a road would be considered such. If need be I’ll get off my ass and take the picture early so I can show y’all what i mean. 😉

Yeah, last week the FSM picked up the cat-caption thread and did its thing. I tried to scrub that out, but I guess I missed a couple of artifacts and something went awry and we’ve got two Flows (the 2nd actually shows the data for the cat-caption thread – go figure).

I’ll look into it…eventually.

heehee well i hadn’t gotten around to looking at the captionshop stats, so i was fine with seeing them 😉 I rather thing that my place in that contest will be better than I’m likely to see in a farktography contest for a while =P

I had some idea for this one. One is OK. The others just sorta turned out craptastic. Better in my mind than on “film”, ya’ know? I’ve got some time tomorrow though.

yeah, one of my ideas I’m really going to have to fake it if it’s going to work at all. The other remains to be seen, now that the light box issues are theoretically addressed. I do have one good one though. It’s so good that I don’t care about the votes, I’m just glad it will show up on my screen saver slide show. =D
