I encourage creativity. I agree with CISS in that NBD‘s point is valid especially on most of the themes coming up, a scanner is not a viable format to provide an entry. If there’s a theme we really feel could have scanner entries and that’s unwanted, we can always disallow their use for that theme.

The thing that struck me at the end of last week’s theme though, was that I could have gotten 2 of my 3 pictures with a camera and a glass top table. 75% of the entries probably could have been done with a camera. So I have little fear of scanned art displacing photographs in our threads. I think there’s a select few who would put it to use if it were allowed – I’d rather not ban it but I don’t exactly want to encourage it either. In the end, Farktography is a photography contest and although scanner creations may be kin art, they aren’t photographs in my book.

Great work although I do want to note, and Elsinore or linguine or curious can correct me if I’m wrong, but they did allow more than 3 entries in the early contests, prior to the current rules being instituted. I don’t know when the change actually happened though.

Actually if you have time I can give you plenty of leads from Sacto to east of Reno. Auburn, CA would be a good place to start – even though a lot of their “abandoned” stuff isn’t really abandoned, it looks abandoned enough to photograph as abandoned.

How was your weekend?

I got sunburned and sunsick at a model rocket launch on Saturday, then my husband had to unexpectedly do extra work at his job that is firing him in 2 weeks so I spent Sunday at my best friend’s house watching chick flicks and consoling her because she’s pregnant and feels sick ALL THE DAMN TIME.

I think roll might have stuck to itself at one point in the film canister too. I know there was one roll of my film that had problems but I thought that was in the Voigtlander.

The emulsion from our developer. I developed this roll myself and they come out with a purple color cast that was converted to green in the negative scan. In most black and white photos I’ve scanned, I’ve corrected it in post processing but I left it in the Holga pictures because I found it interesting.

I think looking for things with a lot of contrast helps but that’s about all I can offer.

As long as said midget tossing conforms to all MTA (Midget Tossing America) rules and standards, I don’t see why not.

Unless there’s a competitive cat fetching contest somewhere ravnostic, that’s not exactly what I was going for. I think the litmus test would be “are there professionals who do this, or is it in the Olympics?”.

I’m planning on using a picture of the George Washington Bridge which orionid said was fine due to the superstructure so all of those would also qualify.

I’m not too concerned with the more game like sports coming out and if they do I doubt the voters are going to go for it.
