ParticipantI guess you guys can cancel the upcoming “Look at my boo-boo!” contest.
/ugh.

Participant1. How do you make things look like they’re on display? I’d like a uniform solution that would work with staplers of all sizes (roughly 5cm to 100cm). Is that even practical?
Um… put them on display? (Seriously, I’m not being smartass. Well, ok, maybe a little.) Put them on a pedestal, with a neutral background. Direct a couple of spotlights at them. If you really want to go crazy and you’ve got cash to burn, put glass over them–a small rectangular (tall rather than wide) glass case, or a glass dome stolen from a clock. If you know someone at a bank, borrow their velvet ropes for a day or two.
Speaking of velvet ropes, what’s that link again to the stapler pr0n?

Participantaaaaah, farktography, the universal humbler.
Yes. But…
I was already humble!
Now I’m humbler. (More humbled? Humbleder?)

ParticipantElsinore, can you post an image with the questionable word blurred, maybe with a NSFW warning over it, and link to the unaltered image? That will give people the option to see it if the boss (or the six-year-old kid) isn’t looking over their shoulder.

Participantschnee, I’m going to have to chew on this before I come up with anything useful, but right off the bat I can see I’m going to take a hit. I had entries in “Flower Power,” sometime around June of last year, and then I was gone for 8 or 9 months while my life fell apart. I’ve been submitting fairly regularly over the past four months or so, but if I understand you correctly, that gap will count pretty harshly against me.
I’m not sure why missing a contest would be a bad thing. For example, for “Shadows”, I had a few pictures that met the criteria, but I didn’t think any of them were worth looking at. So I skipped that one. By this measure, it would be better to submit bad pictures and get no votes than to just spare everyone my rejects.
Just my preliminary $.02.

ParticipantLet me know when you’re in the Bridgepit area, Morningbreath, and I’ll buy you a beer.

ParticipantOh, ack, moving. I hate moving. I’d offer to help but my Jeep is still full of stuff from my last move.
(Not to mention it would probably be a long commute.)
Good luck!
Marley
Participantooo, no i haven’t. that is a good idea, thank you!
Any luck?

ParticipantHave you checked the stock photography sites to see how they price licenses? I took a quick look, but the ones I checked required registration to get prices.

ParticipantMorningbreath, if I remember correctly (which is iffy, at best,) I think I saw you post some Bridgeport pics. Where are you in CT?

ParticipantThanks, idle_hands. The smoke is from one of my controlled burns. (It’s kind of like a wildfire, but we do it deliberately and hopefully we know what we’re doing.) It’s difficult to see the scale of that picture until you realize that the small grey line on the left of the picture is a communications tower.
The fog actually isn’t fog. It’s smoke from another controlled burn, this time from within the burn.
I figured my photography must be pretty ordinary, because I never seem to get more than five votes in any Farktography contest. Though not being a TFer doesn’t help, I’m sure.

Participantschnee, thank you. (Yeah, so, I’m a little late in finding this topic. I’m usually late to post my pictures, too. Hush.) I never knew about the Scratch Pad. I just posted the message without putting in my password–this way I got nagged for my password, but I knew I could test repeatedly and not accidentally post.
In case Shazzoir is still reading, I’ll offer an addendum. Include target=_blank (note the underscore before the word “blank”) in your code, and when someone clicks on the image, the hi res version will open in a new window. For example:

ParticipantOh cool, this is finally taking off!
I’m in, if there’s room for one more. I’m a smidge north of NYC in southwestern CT, if that helps the planning.
Marley
ParticipantThanks, monkeybort. I didn’t realize it ran that long.

ParticipantWenchyWoman, greenlit at 0336, are you serious?
What time does it end?
