April 4, 2008 at 2:36 pm #15605Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantOh feck, my picture was going to be of MLB pitchers.
Well, there’s no visible heat generated by a pitch….However, if you’re aiming to shoot the hottest arm in MLB, look no further than Joel “Zoom-Zoom” Zumaya, of my Detroit Tigers….He was clocked, during a MLB game, at 104.8mph….During a spring training game against the Yankees, the speedgun reported one of his pitches at 107mph….The 104.8mph pitch should be the new record, but somehow it’s not “official” yet.
🙄WHAT?!! I had no idea Zumaya could throw that hard… wow… I didn’t know we had our own Rob Dibble in D-town… that’s awesome!

I can’t say enough about how pleasing this contest has been to me.. aside from my own performance, lol… I really really like almost all the shots… many are, to me, really outstanding. I need to go vote, but it’s gonna take me a while cause I’ve got a lot of clicking to do!!!

April 2, 2008 at 4:30 pm #16086Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantSweet.. thanks for the help! I have GIMP, but I really haven’t used it all that much because of the 3 windows that it opens in… (which seems very strange to me) I think I should beable to manage with photoshop.. actually, my favorite resizing program is PAINT… I think I probably have a lot of quality loss, but for the ‘display’ image, it doesn’t matter… I always link to the bigger image (when I remember).
Again, thanks for the helps.

April 2, 2008 at 1:33 pm #16082Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantThanks.. Does anyone have an “optimal” size that they usually go with?
April 2, 2008 at 1:09 pm #7337Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantbump bump… I use this every week. 😀

Thom Hogan agrees with you. And I agree with him.
1. Most importantly, use a remote release or, if you don’t have one, a self-timer. A really sturdy setup can handle the vibration of pressing the shutter release, but a flimsy one won’t. Set it up, and keep well away from touching any part of the tripod during the exposure
/quoteOY!!! I didn’t think of that… thanks for the idea.. I have a 2 second timer, and I was all bummed out becuase I had no way to remotely expose the picture… I can’t wait to try this. 😀
March 31, 2008 at 7:23 pm #15500Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantI agree with the blind voting… once a favorite is established, it seems like people often vote for the leader… then again, what came first, the chicken or the egg..
March 27, 2008 at 12:17 pm #15476Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantCool contest… there’s some junkers (mine hehe) and some really cool ones… U-man’s kid is funny…. the ski lift is cool.. there’s one of the st. louis arch that I really like…. cardoc’s lightening is awesome… the calgary tower made me pee my pants.. I love simdan’s shot with the yellow roads… (how’d he do that?!!?) Sumida Sublight has one of my favs… thing makes me a bit dizzy… Idle_hands had some good ones too.. bridge to nowhere, and that one with the smoke stack where he copied me but did it waaay better. 😀
Great job everyone!
I’ve got 10 total votes so far, so color me geeked.
March 27, 2008 at 1:09 am #15470Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantI like that pic u-man… that is a heck of a distance when you want a cookie!!!! LoL!!
YOu are right elsinore… I didn’t think that far into my example.. it was just meant to illustrate my point… but yeah, the subject was not in the distance… darn aperture setting. 😀
March 26, 2008 at 1:19 pm #15233Mr.BobDobalitaParticipantI had a chance to stop by a place where I knew an old flatbed truck was rotting away, so I took some photos… nothing special since I had missed the contest, I just wanted some snap shots. Anyways, here’s 2…. Had I been entering the contest, I would have braved the pucker-brush all around the truck, but since I had missed the contest, I wasn’t going to get poked with thorns a million times. 😀
