ParticipantI was checking out the Canon at Best Buy today. I liked the feel of it. Plus I’m a Canon guy anyway. They had a shitload of P&S cameras as open box stuff cheap as hell. I think the Canon was selling for $159. Circuit City had about 50 cameras on the open box display. After Xmas returns I would imagine. If you live near one of these go by and have a look, you could get a sweet deal.
BTW…Why not shoot over 3mp?

ParticipantI used my 70-300. Not my favorite lens but it is the longest I have right now.
I took a few with the 70-200 but the 300mm ones actually came out better.

ParticipantHad a clear night last night.
Was very cold & windy but I managed to get a few decent shots in before frostbite set in.

ParticipantI shoot all RAW as of a few months ago. I used to shoot RAW & a small JPEG to make it easier to sort through the photos before processing. Now I have Vista in my laptop and it reads Canon Raw so all my photos show up as thumbnails in the folders RAW or not. Some of my shots go back to 2002 when I got my first digital camera, but not many. (maybe 1000 shots total)
I got my 1st DSLR in 05 but used it mostly for my eBay store until 06 when I went back to a P&S for the store because it was easier to use. ( I have another 100gb of just eBay shots too!)
I really didn’t start getting heavy into using the DSLR (EVolt E500) until Feb 07 when I went for a weekend in NY and took it with me. After taking some not so great shots in auto mode I finally busted out teh manual and learned myself how to use the thing. The shots I posted from NY were taken on that trip. The difference in quality after I read the manual was amazing. It really got me back into photography in a big way.
So I figure 2 years to fill up that much space but since I started with Farktography last year my shooting has really increased so I expect to need another 500gb hard drive or maybe a 1tb pretty soon.

ParticipantI went into this weeks theme figuring to use something I already had in my Flickr. Usually I will upload 4 or 5 shots for each week and make the decision at last minute which ones to use.
After looking at the ones I was thinking of I wasn’t very inspired so I decided to sit down and look through all the pictures I have in my computer.
WOW! I have about 35,000 images in my hard drive and external drive My pictures folder is 25gb and the external drive has 155gb of photos. 😯
By spending 2 hours going through all this I found four shots that I think blew away all the shots I entered for the original contests.
This is the 4th one I would have used for “reflections”
It is ground zero reflected in the World Financial Center building

Even though this week was slow I think it was a hit. If we do it again next year it won’t fall on New Years Eve so it should get better response.

ParticipantDefinitely teamwork! Both of us had the same idea for a contest, but No Big Deal had the great title! What a wonderful way to end the year. Great timing Elsinore.
hubby hooked me up with wireless from the party, and I’m now coming to you with beer in hand. Anyway, the credit for scheduling goes completely to U-Man–he was the one who suggested it, and it was a damn fine idea.
I now return me to my regularly scheduled beer. Happy New Year guys–thanks for the laughs and amazingly good art that you’ve shared with us.
How could we forget U-man!!
*raises beer to U-man*

ParticipantI can’t quite believe I got a gallery on a manufacturer’s website.
Anybody who I have ever showed your photos to is completely blown away.
seriously…Pulitzer quality.
As for the lens…if I drop a lens into a pile of cotton it would probably break.

ParticipantWOW!
13 minutes in and I am totally blown away!!
Mopsy…we did good on this one! *high five*

ParticipantI’m not a an expert but that looks pretty well FUBARed. If you’re still covered by the warranty I’d send it back ASAP.
It’s over 2 years old, and I think it may have been a refurb, so likely no warranty left
Is that mold growing on your keyboard? LOL!!
Looks fubar to me.
what kind of camera?
Not mold, just dried ramen noodle broth (equally gross, I know, but I like to slurp noodles while I compute)
As stated above, it’s a Panasonic DMC-LZ3
I really hope it’s not fubar. I can’t afford another camera right now, and I really want to keep on farktographing..
It still looks cleaner than my keyboard at work. A keyboard in an auto shop…yea thats pretty scuzzy.
I had a HP point & shoot that looked like that after I closed it in a car door…so I think it’s borked.
The good news is that it gives you an excuse to upgrade to a DSLR. After xmas deals abound my friend. Now is the time.
If you really are broke though I have an old OLY P&S you can have. It’s only 2.1 mp though so your cameraphone might be better.

ParticipantPicking a group of “finalists” image wasn’t hard this week. There are a number of photos I like but didn’t end up choosing for contests.
But… picking three out of that pool is proving very difficult. It’s like picking your three favorites kids out of a group that has been rejected once already. It’s proving to be much harder to decide what to submit this week.
I thought I knew what I wanted to use but after I went back and looked at them I was like meh…
Maybe I have just been in a bad mood lately.
Hopefully I will get more inspired by Wednesday night.

ParticipantOkay, another dumb question…. And I swear I’m not trying to bend the rules, just making sure I’m not outright going to violate anything (including the spirit of the theme)
Does this include themes that allowed techniques not normally allowed? ie: HDR, Panoramics, Seasons Greetings Cards, etc.
As far as I’m concerned anything that was allowed in the original theme is allowed for this one (HDR, text etc…)
nobigdeal
ParticipantWhat if the photo was taken after the theme in question? like “i wish i would have taken this shot back when “trails- i can see where you have been” was posted.” or whatever.
I do that alot.
Me too!! 😆
In the original thread for this theme idea we decided that photos should be taken prior to the date of the original contest.
More like you had four shots you couldn’t decide on for “trails” and after seeing what everybody else posted you though “damn, I shoulda used the one I didn’t use!”

ParticipantThanks everyone.
mofo the Sox bear and the FJ cruiser shots I think came out spot on and they were just point the camera at something and hit the shutter.
go figure?
I had fun playing around with a fully manual camera. I hadn’t used one since I took a photography class in high school 25 years ago.

ParticipantGreat jorb this week guys!
