I’m going to drill a body cap & try it on my 40d and A2 and see what has the best results.

I also have used a piece of paper with a small hole behind a UV filter on a lens to get a faux pinhole effect

    This

Is an example of something that was done sitting in a field without much effort, but I think I want to try the real thing for the theme.

Finding photos for this week’s contest was very entertaining and raised a couple of questions I hadn’t expected. First of all I quickly decided to make this a rummage through archives, since going out to intentionally take inept photos didn’t makes sense in my case. I can see how trying out new ideas, new equipment, new settings, etc… without thinking them through could work. But I have enough awful results from years of learning through mistakes that I could just edit from countless choices.

Even then, deciding what makes a “good” bad photo was a challenge. There are so many ways an image can go wrong from bad composition, bad lighting/setting, accidents at just the wrong moment, bad choices for settings/lens, equipment/film malfunctions, etc… I wasn’t sure which route to take so I threw up (pun?) a wide range of miserable photos in a gallery and asked friends to laugh and point. Those replies have been lots of fun, so this contest is already a big win for me.

Have a look at 59 shades of fail if you need a chuckle and post your own “almost but not quite bad enough” selections here if you had too many to pick from too.

I know where you are coming from. I went through the archives yesterday and found that most of my bad shots were just that. bad shots.

I took a few of my wife (portrait type) this weekend while slightly inebriated and forgot to change the aperture settings so I have some very nice F1.8 shots where her knees are in perfect focus but the rest is a bit off.

I don’t think those would fit my ideas of what I want for this theme though.

I did come up with a few screwups that were actually pretty cool and today I developed my test roll from the Blankamera and found a really neat double exposure.

We’ll have to see what the Farkotraphy voters think of them.

I’ll post my rejects after I decide which ones I am going to use.

use 400 or 800 speed film. I buy mine from B&H.

There’s really not a whole lot to give tips about – each one is pretty individual, really.

    Thanks.

I always loved the Holga effect and was looking at different ways of faking it with PS or Gimp.

So I said screw it, I can buy the real thing for 25 bucks.

    It has arrived!!

I already screwed up and rewound the practice roll all the way 😳

I’ll be carrying it around with me for the next week or so trying to find interesting things to shoot.

Uranus if you want to PM me your address I will let you know when it is on the way. I also have the instruction manual in a file so I’ll print it out and send it along w/ the camera.

/ Mofo..the great horned stapler looks like it fought with the camera in the box and lost. 😯

Whos is after Uranus? I’d still like to get my name in on this.

As far as i figure the que is:

    Uranus
    Soosh
    Idle hands
    Morningbreath
    Millera
    Jpatten
    Kilerclaw
    Corsec67
    Redwoodcruzr
    Orionid

I was supposed to in the middle there somewhere but it skipped to me because Elsinore had problems shipping overseas.

I will send it to Uranus then he can send it off to soosh.

I love those fisheye shots from the ESB.
All the fisheyes are cool actually.

NYC is a fisheye lens paradise.
My next NYC trip is going to include a night trip to the top.

    Great shots so far!

I have to ask. How do you guys get such good bug shots.

Ever since this theme was added to the que I have been trying to photograph a butterfly.

I have spent several hours sitting in a field, sitting on my deck, sitting in the yard, all to no avail.

The only time this whole summer and fall I was close enough to shoot a butterfly I didn’t have my camera.

I found this guy dead outside my door a few days ago but he is in rough shape and I couldn’t get a good shot.

So after all this I looked around the house last night and managed to find a few somethings with butterflies to shoot.

Oh well ..at least I found something.

Ok, I’m really sorry this has been so delayed. I’m kinda once-bitten-twice-shy about shipping it (again) to Europe, so how about I send it to NoBigDeal and it can go to Uranus after that? NBD, pm me your addy and I’ll send it out to you.

FWIW, I shipped it USPS to the Netherlands. The box was so banged up when I got it back, I suspect they decided it was damaged, but I’ve gotten banged up boxes from the UK with no issues, so I’m not sure why it was a problem. There was a place to check that says the package is damaged, but they didn’t bother checking anything. Seems pretty crappy to accept it all the way to its destination country, then decide to refuse it based on it being “damaged” then proceed to send it all the way back to its origin. Ah well….

    Sent!

    Nice!

    Very Nice!

You and your stupid Alaskan beauty!

    /jealous 😉

I spent the afternoon shooting long exposures at the stream down the campground because it was running high with all the rain.

If I ever get around to processing them I’ll try to post some.
