    ennuipoet – I can’t see why not.

orionid – I don’t think so. You’re not in Hawai’i now, so why would anything Hawai’i be verboten? I don’t think ennuipoet would be likely to post Yankees stuff, but if he had visited Detroit, he certainly could do something with Tigers stuff he bought while there.

Not that anybody’s going to be doing an audit… I certainly won’t.

Sweet….. but Oddmind is screwed, because IIRC, she still lives there.

Been there a 5 or 6 times, but for no longer than three weeks each. Since I WAS living each time I visited, I guess I lived there. But I’ve always voted in California.

And I don’t have a damned thing for this contest. Yet.

So if I cropped the heck out of a previously-submitted photo to eliminate the wonky effect, I could submit the uncropped one here version without violating the rules? Because that photo fits this theme much better than it did the other one.

Just don’t photograph the Oakland police.

I was going to photograph the Occupy Oakland group for the thread next week, but maybe not. I don’t want to do anything stupid.

I was “inside” the Federal Building in Hilo, Hawaii, taking pictures of the awesome old doors, banisters, etc. Security came over and told me (nicely) that photography wasn’t allowed “inside,” but that I could take pictures from the street if I wished. I put “inside” in quotes, because the hallways of the Hilo Federal Building only have walls on three sides, the fourth being open to the courtyard, which is itself open to the street. I walked out to the street, and took some of the same photos, although with the lens zoomed out more. Security agreed with me that it was a silly rule.

…set your camera on the lowest iso and tightest aperture. put your lens cap on. set exposure to bulb. tape down your shutter button, line up your shot, remove lenscap, count a few seconds, replace lenscap, line up second frame, remove lenscap, count a few seconds, replace lenscap, release shutter button. tada.

I did exactly this for one of my images in the “A Show of Hands” contest. It works, but it’s tricky to get right.

It’s loads of fun, especially in the dark! I did it on “Emotion,” when I had Mr. Oddmind’s Devil and Angel persona each peering over his shoulder at the same time. Hmmm. Could this be a future theme??

I searched flickr for “barren macro” in hopes of inspiration. Fail. Thousands of shots that were neither barren nor macro and two ice-covered dead-tree landscapes.

/Still got nuthin with a few mediocre ideas. May run with the light bulb filament if that’s not going to step on anyone’s toes.

i have a couple of variations on this but you are welcome to join in and make it a mini theme. i have a couple of 1911 shots too. 🙂

Mr. Oddmind teaches Forensic Science/Police Science in high school, and he just moments ago brought me the materials I asked for. I hope to get at least one that might qualify for the mini-theme.

a blurry streak of a black and gray tail as the cat leaves the cardboard box light tent.

As I was reading, I was pulling for you to at least get a photo of the cat. Of course, as a slave to four cats myself, I should have realized what the outcome would be. A similar scenario has been played out at my house, too.

errrrm…. a portal to the tummy? how would that fly ? (couldn’t get a shot all the way thru to the pooper)

    example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/discover_uranus/6028418369/

I was thinking along the same lines. Now I’m not sure if I should post it…I don’t want it appear that I am stealing the ideas of another photographer.

yeah, because you just ran out and snapped a shot of some random, prowling beast after seeing my shot, right?

use it. I might not even use the lion. Just make sure you blow us away with yours 😆

Aaacck!! I don’t think I can take the pressure!!!:-) It’s not even a wild animal! Just a study in cat dentition. She yawned as I was trying for a XCU. I don’t know…it’s nice technically, but not very inspired. Just another cat photo, really.

That’s fine. The Giants stadium is beautiful too, I’ve been there 2 or 3 times. I saw Greg Maddux win his 300th game there (go Cubs :P)

Thanks. Alas, no Giant reached beyond second base the day I attended, and you’re right, AT&T Park is a really nice place to go. But I do someday hope to see a game at Wrigley Field. I just wish I had done it before they put up the lights. Baseball should be played in the daytime.

Where do we stand on audience participation? I have a couple of fun shots of fans catching homeruns at a professional baseball game. (Hope to get more this afternoon–GO, GIANTS!!)

Ravnostic, that’s destined to be a classic. I was pleased that you included all four of smoking, drinking, amphetamines and sniffing glue. Your effort inspires me.

But besides that, welcome to the forum! I enjoyed your glass creations during the Scanner as Camera theme.

Oh yes, this. I thought your glass bead/shard scans were quite creative and well done.

    Ditto this. I loved those.

Thank you for the clarification and appreciation. *blushes slightly*

I’ve already been back to The Stairs for new photos. I didn’t have anything for the just-finished theme and no time to get a new one, but I’m surrounded by interesting staircases and beaches for those upcoming themes. Actually, there is a location that features both, if I can get a sunny day during a San Francisco summer. Mark Twain was right.

Ugh! I used my best stairs on Urban Art! Are other views allowed? Such as a close-up of certain parts? And can it be just SOME of the stairs or need be the whole staircase? And could a return visit to the same shot (different lighting, other flowers in bloom, etc) be OK? Sorry for the Spanish Inquisition. I’m still new here.
