Participantsilverstag and Elsinore; pm’d regarding my concept. To hell with the votes; I like–but should I even pursue it or will it be dq’d? Please keep in mind discussion in ‘color popping’ and ‘weather’ regarding boxes. thx.

ParticipantMe neither, zincprincess. I thought my lighter flint shot was a sure bet–it’s as sparky as they get. It’s done well, but TBH (and no disrespect), I’m surprised at some of the pictures way ahead of it in votes.

ParticipantBasing my answer on that, I say, yes, to more than one color as long as it is not part of the background.
What about what Kestrana brought forth as an idea, the background rather than the foreground being the color popping element?

Participant…but I think I’ve stumbled upon a ‘win’ idea.
You know, I’m retracting that statement. Subtlety, as I recall, does not bode well for votes in farktography. I’ll still do it, for I likes it, but I won’t pin my hopes upon it.

Participant…three boobies (If you can find Eccentrica Gallumbits!)
Went shopping for props (Dollar stores are amazingly cheap prop supply warehouses for these contests, BTW). Did not find Eccentrica Gallumbits.
Did come close.
I know I say this nearly every week, but I think I’ve stumbled upon a ‘win’ idea.
I’ll be horribly disappointed if I cannot pull it off.
**wait for it…**

ParticipantOkey dokey–that’s why I asked. I haven’t yet taken any pics and didn’t want to waste my time with ‘ones’ of ‘thirds’ that would be ‘right out’. 🙂

ParticipantIt seems it’s always the afterthought entries that do well, doesn’t it?

ParticipantOne of the things I like most about Farktographers is we all more or less like and support one another while photoshoppers tend to lie in wait with high powered weapons for one another. 8)
I noticed this over ‘there’. Just now getting into photoshopping (quick and dirty, mostly, but still), and there are some real @rsehats over there. Not all, of course, but enough. I’m now just posting, leaving, and coming back to vote.
It’s much nicer here. 3x [ahem] as nicerly.

ParticipantApparently, it’s unofficial, but every January. Every contest is littered with boobalicious entries. *meah*.

ParticipantBack to the three subjects at hand (if you’re missing a couple fingers), need this be three distinct subjects, or a more loose definition? For example, a three story building, a three pronged fork, a three lane road, or three sides of a cube.
Just an FYI, this is ‘vote whoring’ month in the photoshop venue, and the photographer who can get three hot babes in a suggestive pose will, I fear, likely take the contest. (And surely someone will go along those lines, maybe one of linguine‘s b-sides from “What dreams…”)
As an aside, I’m kinda sad “Vote Whoring” didn’t make the January cut for that very reason. I have no proof, but I think ps’ers constitute a good many voters in farktography, as they see our contests alongside their own.

ParticipantKestrana has made it perfectly clear that his closet is off-limits to me. 🙁

ParticipantYouTubed “5 is right out” and found the clip. It’s been too many years since I’ve watched MP. Didn’t even realize ‘Book of Armaments’ was a play on it, as well. 😳
Now then. Where can I find me 3 holy hand grenades? 😈

ParticipantI posted in ‘Color Popping Naturally’ that this argument is parallel to the one being discussed over there. I’m sure it sucks to live in an environment where, perhaps, it’s cloudy all the time during one part of the year, but even so, there are likely archive shots that could be used (I know I have my share of those).
Further, steady clouds can mean a dewy morning, a misty afternoon, a hazy sunset breaking through clouds, a foggy evening–surely it’s not complete monotony. I’m good with weather myself, but feel I’ll have troubles with CPN, yet Kes brilliantly suggested that the foreground, not the background, could be the grey area (so to speak), and that gave me an idea for at least one photo in that contest.
Contests can be something of a box to work within, and part of the unique challenge is to find a way to think outside of it, yet meet theme requirements.
Personally, I hate to fail, and I am compelled to submit 3 photos per week for my own reasons–I hem and haw back and forth on this point, but I think I’d rather post a few *meah* shots and suffer the votes than not participate at all for lack of what I deem to be interesting.
Case in point, this shot was part of a set I took just to have a 3rd shot, but it was well received and my best vote getter that week (8th place, “Artistic Bent”).

ParticipantWhat do you have in your house that is black/white/grey & interesting that you could put on a colorful backdrop?
I hadn’t thought of the inversion concept–I have some beach-worn flat grey rocks that I’ve just been itching to get into a contest; nifty idea!
By the same token, this seems to be a parallel argument being had over in ‘weather’. If the skies are always cloudy, there’s a chance for fog, dew (which I consider precipitation, an effect of weather), mist, hazing, probably more.
I completely agree that tailoring the contests to what we want to shoot defeats the porpoise, even to the point that I may not get 3 suitable photos for this contest (though now I’ll have at least one–thanks, Kes!)

ParticipantKestranaFor what it’s worth, I prefer the ‘only one of each kind’ difficulty. I’d much rather see only 1/3 lightning and 1/3 rainbows than 1/2 lightning and 1/2 rainbows (maybe a little simplistic, but there’s LOTS of different kinds of weather–I’m looking for tangent arcs myself, now that I found my camera filters).
