That goes back to context again (e.g. fireworks: not really). Try not to get arrested…

    There’s context. And

Offist, honicer, I was sotally tober!*

Home safe and sound and no people/animals/properties were harmed in this photography session.

I don’t flickr, but I do youtube. Best I’ve done there is with the ‘long version’ of morphing presidents, closing in on 7,000 views now:

The short version isn’t far behind at over 6k.

I only hope incendiary devices are fair game. If you can’t blow things up, what’s the point of living?

I wouldn’t be, Kes; going up against–and winning against–the U-Man is some damned high praise from the voters. U-Man is a photographic God*; to best him is to say something special about your picture.

*disclaimer: I don’t mean the U’ey is photogenic–though he is, in his own, humble way. I just mean he’s an excellent photographer whose skill is wasted upon whatever profession pays the bills that afford him his magnificent toys. Unless them skills save lives. Then it’s a close second. But on the hottie scale, you’re still better off with the big O. Just sayin’.

I can’t figure out the voters either. My highest vote getter and best place finish was this week, and I was sort of meh about even entering that picture. Clearly, I know nothing about what the voters want.

More often than not, it seems ‘the simpler, the better’ is a good general rule. At least that’s what I’ve been going with (when I can get it, of course), and it’s certainly improved my rankings. I think that’s where I ‘failed’ with my shot this week. I should’a cropped out the bird.

    Oh, I’ll live. 🙂

How/when does a thread close? Is there a specific time? Does a person do it or is it on auto-pilot?

Gee, and I thought I’d broke the top 5 again! I certainly can’t complain; I’m in the top 10 in 3 of the last 5 (and 2/top 5), and that’s a far cry from where I started 6 months ago. A whole heap of credit and kudos to the folks here who’ve helped me improve my skills with advice and suggestions.

I’m AM disappointed, though, at Because I Said So‘s finish with the towel critter. I thought for sure that would be in the top 3; it’s STILL my favorite pic. Just goes to show them voters are hard to gauge.

Reminds me of the ‘Cell Block Tango’ from Chicago. Wonder what yours would be called…

Can a view of a canyon from the perspective of being in it be considered a ‘landscape’? i.e., it’s more vertical than horizontal.

Ditto on a view through a natural rock-enclosed tunnel (wide, though–a hundred-ish feet)?

Here in Az, it can be a challenge finding a traditional ‘landscape’ with water, if you’re suggesting something along a ‘skylines’ view.

I must have taken 200 pictures that night from a balcony overlooking the airport. Not a damned one of them was worth squat. I am really learning a deep and profound and great deal of respect for you skill at capturing the bolts.

Kitchen knives and sticks would need to be shown in a weaponized context, I think, other than that, it’s all good…

Cool. Makes sense. I can work with that.

Not that I have specific plans, but what about an obviously toy gun pic like this? –> http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Shooter_2156.jpg

That’s just rong. I’m calling the authorities. 😆

The picture should also be a landscape, so if you have a landscape picture and it features a fountain, knock yourself out.

For the inevitable question: landscape; (n.) 1. An expanse of scenery that can be seen in a single view: a desert landscape. 2. A picture depicting an expanse of scenery.

That might rule one of mine out (maybe; hard to say). I’ll pm you in the morning with the picture, as I’m at work at the moment.

Clarification–this isn’t necessarily ‘oceans, lakes, etc’ is it? I have selections where water is prominant, but not in a traditional ‘ocean/lake’ sense. In one, there’s actually very little water–but it’s central to the image’s ‘1000 words’, so to speak.

I’m gunning for orionid this contest:

Me, too. Hell, I’m barely even going to try. I have a couple BRIT25thC-type shots, and only for the sake of posting anything at all. But I’m sure the real contestants will rock the house.

Elsinore; I believe Just Kat was referring to the picture U-Man linked to of the dog up in the tree. 🙂 (page before this one; I wondered myself but wasn’t going to ask.)

    Thanks for the restoratification.
