Participantmeanwhile, there’s always lightning during the ‘soons.

ParticipantThat Stellar’s Jay is stunning!

ParticipantI’ve seen some nice astro-shots come from that model, and IIRC, you’re under dark skies, right? Got a wide lens? Could be fun…

ParticipantI missed it. Which camera did you get? New toys are always nice. And I’m completely on-board with the the panic of not having one to hold (that works).

ParticipantWhat’s the camera? I’m amazed at how very little noise I get in the T2i as compared with the xTi, up to ISO 1600; the darks make it seem like the xTi’s 400 shots. And believe me–it’s at least that hot, if not hotter, round these parts this time of year.

ParticipantI usually see it when it’s in the NWern sky; I don’t think I’ve ever captured it NEerly. It’s on my bucket list with the 300mm, though; in My telescope, I can only get the core.

ParticipantFluffy, herm….If I didn’t spend the amount of money I did and completely lack the know-how to do so, I would probably try that…
chupa I meant to look that up and see what it was; didn’t realize it was so close to the G. Square! I have MORE than enough to stack some GS images and see what I can get out of it; think I’ll start that now, maybe have it stack while I’m sleeping; might even get to finish it before returning to work but certainly when I get back home tomorrow.
//edit: durn. That is a ‘no go’; I’d repositioned the lens 3 frames before the meteor passed, and in the prior position, Andromeda is out of frame. 3 20 second images does not a good stack make. 😥

ParticipantThanks rav. But I see through your veiled compliment to the fiendish jinx that lay beneath. 🙂
Muah-ha-ha-ha!

ParticipantDayum, U-Man; I think this contest is over with your first entry! The voters are going to go nuts, and totally forget all the other shots posted after (except probably your second one).
sleeping; your IR shot is awesome, I’m sure you want it envotenated?

ParticipantWell, duh! Color me blond; totally wasn’t thinking that way…

Participant//trying to wrap my head around how you take a picture of a reflection without the reflection being in the photo and I can’t. Someone out there is a heckuvalot more creative than I’ve been of late. But oh, well, I have my three images, one I took just for this contest~~and I actually like it, which is progress for me in the recent past at least. Hopefully a few voters will agree.

ParticipantAh, caradoc, I’m completely envious of that shot. I’ve been through the files and found I caught another one, but it’s very faint and small.
The only ‘glorious’ one isn’t really that cool; it’s just a starfield (Great square of Pegasus to be exact), but I sure was happy to get one after nearly 1000 images over 3 days! I really need to get me some wider glass. 20 second exposure, f/3.5, 29mm equiv (18-55mm kit as wide as she’ll go.) At full res there’s some nice color to it, but then there’s also a lot of noise.
I was wondering, Caradoc, do you think a meteor would trigger the lightning triggers? That would be SO much easier, though it would miss the start of them.

ParticipantUntrue. A pop-up flash turned to EV -1.7 or thereabouts makes decent fill flash without being overly harsh.
I’ve used mine a few times – but almost never at full power.
I wonder if I can turn down the power in the canon pop-up? I’ll have to break out the book and see…

Participantthanks for the well-wishes guys; it really does mean a lot. One of the benefits we have at work that I’ve just learned about yesterday is to get 6 sessions of counseling for free. I’m going to take it–I’ve had counseling before and it really did help, and I sure could use some additional guidance right about now.

ParticipantLove that, Caradoc! I like the detail in the cacti. The shot I put up is maybe 1/9th the area of the full shot; it was that far away, thus, that much more atmospheric dust for the distance.
