ParticipantI did not take any offense. Bug-reports, noticeable service outages, feature requirements – those all give me validation.

Participant*Taps FSM smartly on top of the cabinet*. Hmmmmmm.
Is this thing on?
Says the man at 4AM. Sheesh.
Fixed now. This time the problem was that the headline didn’t include the theme in quotes, e.g. Photograph “boats”.
The FSM needs some sort of a pattern to extract the theme from. Quoted is that pattern.

ParticipantThe Vivitar 285HV has auto settings (via a metering cell) and can go pretty darn manual. Cost $90.
schnee
ParticipantHey there FutherMucker, welcome to Farktography. I saw your Streetlights entry in the theme’s Boobies and decided that I liked the cut of your jib.
I think that since you’d be swapping colors across the entire image (and not in selective areas), you’d be OK. Until you start winning every theme and then we’d have to DQ the technique. But that’s just me.

Participantw00t! I’ll check on the OBO’s. Should I re-do them if they didn’t take?
I don’t know.

ParticipantLast time I saw that particular error, it was related to an authorization problem. Does the FSM authenticate to the Fark servers?
No, it does not authenticate (my auto-poster does, but that’s not the FSM).
I did a little test case with and without setting the user-agent. Without (which is what the FSM does) fails and with succeeds. I’m thinking that the default Java user-agent (“Java/1.6.0” or something) is not recognized by Fark.com.
I asked Drew if he knows what’s what but haven’t gotten a response yet.

ParticipantFarkin’ Fark.com. They started to care about the User-Agent header. I need to do something like this:
System.setProperty("http.agent", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7.2) FSM/20070815");
and then it seems to work.
Speaking of work, I’m at work now so I won’t get this going until tonight.
fark, fark, fark.
/Yo’ Zeke, you may need to care about this…
schnee
ParticipantHmmm…I don’t think the FSM is running. Anyone seen schnee?
You know, the FSM has been running quite well for over a year now, minor tweaks to handle Fark.com markup changes, that sort of thing.
This morning, what do I see in my log file? “Server redirected too many times (20)”, followed by graceless exits. Never seen that one before. Grrrr.
I don’t know what’s going on, but yeah, the FSM is down.

ParticipantWhen it comes to the results, my rule of thumb is that if I do well, it was a Contest. If not, it was an Exhibition.
schnee
Participantthose looked like bluebonnets except for the color. taken around austin? remember seeing off blue but never red ones.
They were taken at a place near Fredericksburg , TX called Wild Seed Farms, which isn’t very wild, but is a farm. The Red bluebonnets were bred that way by Texas A&M, iirc.
schnee
ParticipantI really need to stop with the phoning-it-in.
The Farktography Statistics Manager is pleased. And hey, Zeke, was that a Mentos-initiated explosion?
schnee
ParticipantExample before/after pic <-- clicky!
Heck, I do more than that on every shot I enter.
Wait, did I type that out loud?
I mean: “that’s fine”. But, thanks for asking. Seriously. Thanks. And welcome to Farktography!

ParticipantNikon D80 with a Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8:
Papago Park, perchance?
schnee
ParticipantI certainly hope that my asking about the Avatars didn’t cause the loss of something more important. 😕
Oh no that did not happen. Farktography.net and the FSM are separate entities with different priorities and requirements. Both are happily working towards making Farktography the Best Darn Weekly Photo Contest Hosted On Fark.com, but resources spent on one do not detract from resources spent on the other.
