Anybody going to the Texas BBQ fark party?

    When/where?

If we ever meet in person your first refreshing drink of choice is on me 🙂

Aw, shucks….I’d be happy to drink a tasty beverage with you.

The FSM is now updated daily, with a fresh set of spotlighters choosen each night (assuming that the biggest threat doesn’t manifest). So check-in often to see if your favorite Farktographer is in the spotlight!

    FSM, updated.

Randomly enough, there was no monkey business with the Spotlighters – completely random.

well, regardless of the method, it’s cool to see all my entries and stats and whatnot.

Yeah, I can hardly wait for schnee to be spotlighted…

Seriously, however, I know I’ve been teasing you all about doing Farktographer searches. Consider the spotlight a preview. It still may be a while, however.

Btw, would it at all be possible to switch my name in your database from WenchyWoman to Elsinore?

Already done. I saw your name-change and wondered how the FSM would handle it. Badly, it turns out – doubled counted your entries. Works now. Wait a couple of hours for the update to be deployed (5pm CST right now).

thank you for the spotlight, schnee!! very very cool.

I wish I did something to deserve the thanks – you were selected fairly randomly. Its all in the FSM FAQ, but basically, the more entries-with-at-least-one-vote you have, the more chances you have for a spotlight. Anyway, your time in the spotlight will likely expire when I do tonight’s update (it is possible to be reselected immediately, but unlikely).

Works for me. I think I speak for everyone when I say thanks for all your work on the stats thingy. 🙂

You are all very welcome. It turns out to be a nice blend of my vocation and my avocation, so it is my pleasure.

Have you see the one-hit-wonders report? Howabout the spotlight feature? I can probably be bribed for spotlight spots…

    Hm… “stats thingy”… hmmm … a renaming may be in order…

“Drag the shuttter” (google it). Basically, shoot with a relatively slow shutter speed and then use that sunpack to freeze motion. The people are frozen, but the background is blurred out.

Another way to get the same effect is to shoot wide-open (and with that lens, wide means wide). Assumine the flash is “smart enough”, it will illuminate the subjects and the background will drop off. Wide open means faster shutterspeeds, which could come in handy as the night wears on and the photog gets less and less steady…

Shoot 800 speed film rated at 640. I’ve found Fuji NPZ to be decently low-grained.

FSM has been updated with Staplers and Staples. veruca solidified her lead as the top vote getter evar, but MorningBreath is nipping at veruca’s heels in the top vote getter recently category.

And, less than 25,000 votes to go until we break the 100,000 vote barrier!

The subject? “Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics”? Probably need to work “Mistakes” in there somewhere.

Congrats to MorningBreath for moving beyond the heel-biter stage to take a solid lead as the Greatest Fartographer Recently.

Hopefully I have that worked out now.

WenchyWoman, greenlit at 0336, are you serious?

    What time does it end?

i think veruca usually posts the top three or four around 8 or 9 pm fark time thursday evenings.

I update the FSM really close to 25 hours after it hits the mainpage. But then I update a particular contest again one a week for four weeks, so tne FSM is useless for place-in-ation.

    Adding to the discussion

The Fark copyright policy seems to indicate that when someone posts an entry in a Farktography contest, the copyright of that image is transferred to Fark. Is that the intent?

    Response:

nope. We request a non-exclusive right to republish but we don’t ask for ownership the language is strong because the attorneys like that way, however I’ll go on record as saying I’m never going to claim we own those

    and then followed up with:

not at all, reprint away. The more people who know the better. I’d rather this be public record to put peoples’ minds at ease

I am so jealous. That’s the DSLR I’ve got my eyes on. I hear that’s a pretty sweet lens, too.
