ParticipantThey have tilt adapters but they appear to be macro only and don’t include anything but Nikon or Canon.
You can get tilt (and shift but not both together) adapters for pentacon 6 MF lenses that will focus to infinity. I think that’s the cheapest way, but I don’t know what the quality is like. http://www.araxfoto.com/accessories/tilt/

ParticipantIf you go with cotton, you should be fine unless you set it down on a burner, and in that case, nothing would be safe 😉
I don’t know, maybe you could crochet with steel wire or something….

ParticipantAlso, the overall voting for this contest so far is defintely on the low side: http://www.schneeworld.com/fsm/static-reports/totalvotespertheme.html

ParticipantI would certainly not argue that HDR isn’t photography, but the idea behind Farktography was that we limit our use of heavy post-processing so as to create a more firm line between photography and photoshop contests.
In other words “It’s not photography, it’s farktography” 😉

ParticipantOn the other hand, are medium format scanning backs really scanning line by line during the exposure?
Yes, you’re basically strapping a small scanner to the back of your camera. They aren’t real common now, though, because you can get a high enough resolution on a standard single exposure medium format back for most purposes (they’re mostly used for high end art reproduction).

ParticipantI’d say scanner art is more along the lines of a photogram than a photograph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photogram

ParticipantYeah, a lot of the time, 1/500 is going to be too fast to get any panning effect (you’d have to be quite close to something moving at significant speed). But by the same token 1/4 is slow enough to be tricky to get decent results with (not impossible, but requiring some practice). You probably want to start somewhere closer to 1/30 – 1/60 to get decent results with a fair degree of repeatability. But that also means finding a situation where that’s giving you the right amount of movement – you’d probably need to get closer to the planes than a mile to get a real panning effect at that shutter speed.

ParticipantCan’t see the image (access denied) but it may be a sensor heat issue – with long exposures the electronics in the camera can heat up and cause “light” to show up at the edges of the frame: http://dpanswers.com/content/tech_defects.php#ampn
If your camera has long exposure noise reduction, turning it on may help some. It will also double your exposure time though.

ParticipantThe mirror thing is one of the situations where an old school lens with DOF markings can be really useful, and autofocus is a problem. If you AF on one subject or the other, you’re throwing out a whole bunch of your usable DOF. You really need to split the difference between them.
The other thing that’s going to help a lot is a powerful off-camera flash, so you can pummel them with light and stop down plenty.

ParticipantThe VP at my old school handed out the corporal punishment. Just sayin’.
And that’s your idea of being VP in a good way?

ParticipantHelp! What does this mean? Throwing away unfetchable URL http://a%20href%3D/: 500 Can’t connect to a href=:80 (Bad hostname ‘a href=’) Some times I get it when posting from flicker and sometimes no problem.
It looks like you might be inserting the HTML link code into a box designed for a URL. Flickr gives you both.

ParticipantThe flashlight has been within reach since we had a 3 day power outage last winter. The camera is permanently attached to my netbook…
