ParticipantI think I must have done channel-swapping on the skyline picture. I don’t think the in the trees ever showed up like that straight out of the camera.
I’ll have to go back and try to find the raw files at home to see what they look like.

ParticipantI don’t remember if I did channel swapping on that particular one or not. The camera was a borrowed 10D with the IR doohickey removed from the sensor, there wasn’t an IR filter on the lens. So I think it got some visible in there, too. On an overcast day, I got a lot of purple tones to the shots I took. You can see more here:

on a clear day looking straight up, I got really intense black skies, like this:

but closer to the horizon, the skies changed

then when it was all foggy and overcast, I got this kind of tint:

Participantthat is awesome, stapler!

Participantdid any of mine fall under that? they’re shot on a 6×6 viewfinder, but the borders aren’t always a perfect 1:1 ratio. I could recrop if any of them are a problem.

Participantyou could link back to here to selection of shots through the microscope, or enter one of those shots in the contest.

Participantsoosh: I’ve tried taking shots like that but mine never turn out well.
lokisbong: That bottom shot is amazing. Nicely done.
As for dusting off an old thread…. I just joined the forums and taking moon pictures is a fascination of mine. Hope ya don’t mind. 🙂
it’s a tricky shot to be sure. You’ve got to stop way down to f/11 – f/16 or higher to have any hope of both parts having any definition, and then you’ve got to nail the exposure at that small aperture.
I took forty or fifty shots at various focal lengths between 100mm and 400mm to get that. and you’ve got to have an area where you can constantly move to keep the perspective right as the moon moves. I was lucky to find a deserted pull-out on a deserted road where I could walk my tripod back and forth without worrying.

ParticipantI got these last week

Participantb side: I would have gone this route but wanted to fine tune things more. life got in the way. and I’d already used the non-hdr of this shot in another contest

ParticipantI had a zenitar http://www.rugift.com/photocameras/zenitar-fisheye-canon-eos.htm
before I bought my 12-24.I’ve never really understood the fisheye thing. I want wide rectangular, as wide as it can go. I appreciate what the fisheye lens can do, but I’ve never wanted that rounded perspective for any reason. It just doesn’t do anything for me.

ParticipantI’ve got an argus like that, but it’s not that clean. I’m pretty sure it’s nonfunctional.

Participantdamn, I can’t wait to get into medium format digital. I want 6×6, dammit.

ParticipantShould be fine. If you’re panning, your background is typically blurred, though, even on fast shutter speed.
a lot of that depends on how deep the background is and your lens length and depth of field. on my scoters taking off from the water, I was using a 400mm lens and the water behind was really close, because I was at an elevated position to take the shot. so just like I wouldn’t get much bokeh on a still shot like that, I didn’t get much blur in the water with a panned shot.

ParticipantIf you go with cotton, you should be fine unless you set it down on a burner, and in that case, nothing would be safe 😉
I don’t know, maybe you could crochet with steel wire or something….
asbestos likes to form itself up in fibers, and is great for not burning.
there’s the whole deadly lung cancer, but isn’t a fireproof scarf worth 15 years off the end of your life? you were just gonna spend that time being old.

Participantthere is no refuge from puns, is there?

Participantyou can’t take the votes personally. it’s a fickle crowd, and some of my favorite photos have been virtually unnoticed, while things I think of as throwaways sometimes get massive voting.
