Participantuse 400 or 800 speed film. I buy mine from B&H.
There’s really not a whole lot to give tips about – each one is pretty individual, really.

ParticipantI was going to do a whole Stick-Of-Butter-As-Icarus parable this week, but having yesterday off as a holiday screwed me up and I didn’t realize it was Wednesday until it was too late.

ParticipantI shot mine with a 100mm macro. Just followed them around and got lucky.

Participantcrazily, there’s really not a lot of noise in the image.

ParticipantI managed to get a good one for this contest Saturday night after my radio show. I set the camera up in the backyard to get a 30-minute exposure of the stars spinning above the forest. Stayed up extra late to make sure it all went well. Only I forgot to turn the ISO down from the framing shot at 3200. So I got what looks all the world like a daylight scene with the sky completely blown out white.

ParticipantI don’t think so, no. Like I don’t think you can set it to take a 1 minute exposure, then a 2 minute, then a three minute, but maybe I haven’t delved into it enough. I got it mostly to be able to set up for a set exposure without having to constantly watch my watch while I’m sitting out in the dark.
However, if you set it up to take six exposures and set up auto-bracketing on the camera, maybe that would work, I don’t know. I’ve never really messed with auto-bracket stuff.

ParticipantI think I agree about the tree leaves. I’d probably use the healing tool to get rid of them.

Participantu-man, your night shot is awesome. did you light the foreground at all, or is that from the moon or a utility light?

Participantwoo, I had some taken on some farmland after all.

ParticipantI would certainly think so.

Participantwell I went by the salvation army thrift store today looking for fisher price characters, but no luck. I guess the scenes from Southeast Alaska’s squid ranching and moss farming world will have to wait for another day.
