Participantloki’ – yep. fits.
Here’s an example of mine. I don’t know if I will use it. But it may be instructive.
Shortly before taking this pic (which non-photographers might imagine taking themselves)…

…I took this pic (which even I sort of look sideways at myself for taking 🙂 )
http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Fishing-Shed_7503.jpg
It was inside an old crummy fishing shed. 10 or 11 PM. I was nosing around, saw the lures and old, forgotten glasses, the old leaf. It looked neat to me. I took 20 or so pics.

ParticipantYou really can’t tell about the voting. This one is more about stretching the borders for me. Some weeks I really want a pic to do well (OK…most weeks. 🙂 ) This week is more of an “I Like It Anyway” theme for me. Doing well with a pic will just be frosting on the cake.

Participantolavf, I wouldn’t DQ either of those. I think the second one fits the spirit of the theme better. However, the first one is more pleasing to me. It would be interesting to see which received more votes. I have a feeling the legs-and-bricks would come out ahead even though it doesn’t fit as well.
bucky bacon, the stairs fit fine.
As stated before, a test for “fit” could be questions like — Would my non-photographer friends think about taking this pic? Would they notice how beautiful/striking/emotive/etc this atypical subject is? Hell, would they even see it? Can I show this “hidden” part of the world to them?
I’ve already admitted that I don’t have firm mental boundaries for this theme. I’m just as curious as you guys are on how it will turn out. 🙂 My guess is that I will enjoy it. But if it flops, no biggie. There’s always next week.

ParticipantHmm, so is this a theme for “Odd stuff I saw that I took a picture of”, or “stuff that I wouldn’t have done if I didn’t have a camera”?
For the second one, setting a fountain pen on fire with a butane torch would be one example.
Either is OK but I would lean toward the found photo rather than the made-up photo. One of the main (albeit fuzzy) ideas of this this is to show how we photographic oddballs look at the world a bit differently.

ParticipantProbably…as long as the camera made you do it.

ParticipantI’ve done some “paid” work for a local bakery. My wife and her best friend have an advertising company and I am sometimes on-staff. I’m sure I’ll use one or more of those shots. Payment so far consists of keeping and eating the desserts as well as making my wife happy. And, as we all know, if Mama ain’t happy, nobody is.
This one, of my youngest, is actually going to be on a Hy-Vee in store end cap.

btw – If you or anyone you know is gluten intolerant (celiac disease/sprue), the lady who owns this bakery is your friend. She considers it her mission to make tasty, gluten-free desserts.

ParticipantI wouldn’t count people out completely..not say if it’s a macro shot or some weird angle that you probably wouldn’t view someone from. Know what I mean?
I agree to a point. Somewhere in the archives, I have a pic of whorled, fine hair on one of my kid’s back. It isn’t a great photo, but it was one of those, “Hey! Look at that!” things. That would work for this theme.
A simple odd angle or fish-eye shot of an otherwise normal, picture-worthy subject isn’t what I’m looking for.

ParticipantFirst – congrats to Camerajoe Rangerflage. I almost posted here Wednesday night, “soosh and RangerJoe are gonna hit it big this week.” Really and truly.
orionid, that looks cool. Good thing Mopsy runs a bookstore and is always looking out for Christmas gifts. (hint, hint Mopsy)

ParticipantIt will be interesting to see what people enter. The only off-topic stuff would be, well, normal photo subjects like people and landscapes. Don’t you think? Elsinore, do you have any pre-contest moderator advice? Should we add another sentence to that unwieldy description to discourage ‘regular’ stuff?
/very subjective, I know.

Participant…I really have taken to looking at things differently since I got my camera….I like that I can make someone look at an ordinary object a little differently.
THIS is a big part of what I’m talking about.

ParticipantI want to try that out of mouth shot. (I had to be careful with wording)
Never heard of Gigi D’Agostino. I enjoyed it though. I picked that guy just because he seemed relaxed yet full of purpose.

ParticipantThat six month stuff is intriguing. Do any of you have experience with it? Is photo paper or film the way to go? Why isn’t the paper/film completely exposed?

ParticipantOh yeah. That fits. Which of your friends (that are not photographers) would see how beautiful that is?

ParticipantOlavf, they’re loading fine so far. Is JK using your server tonight?
