I think that I may have hit ‘redisplay/refresh’ rather than ‘Add comment”. My bad.

I like Spiffy. Don’t know if he would fit this contest and I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t want him in my house, but I like him.

I’m with corsec on keeping the neighbors around for contrast. What about something like this?

not that I have anything that would fit, but would yellow as in “coward” fit the theme?

I think that would be fair game. However, I think that it would be really difficult to get the voters to get it on a quick look. Perhaps a caption could sell it.

Heresy! Winners are immortalized at the FSM! Fame, a prize beyond riches.

hehe so true. And the FSM is seriously, ridiculously awesome. Thanks as always for keeping that going!

Seriously. It is ridiculously awesome. Thanks schnee.

Soosh, if that pic were posted as an unknown, “which farker took this?” question, there is a good chance I would have guessed you.

    Night.
    Dramatic lighting.
    Nice composition.

….says ALASKA on the side of the roof.

I’ve contemplated this many times, but this contest seals it for me…UMan…I’m coming to steal your children. 🙂

I’m pretty sure that the whole stealing of children thing is a compliment. So, thank you. Right?……okay. Good.

However, corsec67 has the right idea. The little one pictured can melt my heart or make it explode. It would be much more efficient to just borrow some props from a neighbor then give ’em back when the diaper is full.

/Being a dad is the hardest, most fulfilling thing that I have ever attempted. Wouldn’t change it if I could.

Man! You mods are, like, sneaky fast with the deleting and adding.

    Thanks for the help.

Wow. A lot of these are really bad. So bad that they’re enjoyable.

But I agree with schnee, we awl need to stick to the point of the contest. It is a bit of a thorny problem; how to pin down the perfect photo that will be at the apex of the thread. I’ve got two pics on the spike. But I seem to have hit a snag on the last one. Perhaps my interest is tapering off.

    /sorry.
    //so sorry.

A woman that I work with has a story about trucks. It might not be true, but I think it is.

When her daughter was three-ish, it was time to get rid of the pacifier. They went through the whole thing of throwing it away and Stacy told her daughter that the garbage man brings all of those thrown-away pacies to other babies that need them.

Now, her daughter didn’t say the “T” sound correctly. Evidently, she would replace it with an “F” sound. So, a couple of weeks after throwing away the pacifier a garbage truck drove by their car. Stacy heard from the back seat, “Hey! That *uck has my pacie!”

/Nothing to do with photography. But good for a smile, at least.

When I bought my 20D six years ago, I deleted the 18-55 and got the 17-85 IS. Overall, I’ve been really happy with it. For daytime pics and snapshots it is great. Compared to the others you listed, I would miss the wider angle the the 17-85 provides. That said, as I get into photography more, the f4-5.6 can get in the way.

I think that I would trust the other opinions here over mine. They know way more ’bout this stuff than I do.

/but I would still miss that extra wideness….

Wow, when I opened this thread I thought that there was only one page. Too much work and not enough sleep…..

Mofo, thanks for the story. Made me smile.

The other day, I caught my nine year old with her tongue about 1 inch from a heavy iron planter hook in the back yard. “STOP!!!!” I yelled.

She decided to grab it with her gloved hands instead.
