ParticipantLenny, do you walk around playgrounds with a giant lens? Where do you live that people are so aggressive? Around Michigan here there are plenty of nature photographers and I don’t have a 500mm so I don’t draw any attention but most of my time is spent in parks. People seem either to be used to seeing photographers or are they just don’t want to talk to anybody because they are unfriendly. I think that that latter is mostly the case.
Mr. Pope sir, you live in Canada where everybody is polite and friendly. Except the border border guards.

ParticipantI’ve been shooting a lot for this contest and didn’t quite get the shots I wanted but I’ve learned about what I need to do, I think. Trying to get things in focus through the water drops is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Here are my Bees, most taken in the last week: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7. I probably should have used #2 since I really like that one.

ParticipantI’m not as familiar with Canon but I’ve heard good things about the 100-400mm and I wish Nikon made one, not their 80-400 that is $3k. I generally carry a 300mm f4 plus a 70-200mm and a 1.7 TC. I did just buy a 28-300mm yesterday to try to reduce the lenses that I’ve been lugging around. The 300mm f4 plus 1.7x gets out to 500mm but it certainly isn’t a 500mm f4 prime as the image quality isn’t great and it is f6.7. If you really want to get a big zoom maybe you could look into renting Canon’s new 200-400 + 1.4x but that might be a lot to lug around. I’m hoping to have a 500mm f4 by the time my trip rolls around. When you get that big though you really need to also consider having the correct support for the weight. I also love the idea of Sigma’s 300-800mm but is doesn’t have image stabilization, weighs 12#, and costs 10 grand so it’s out.

ParticipantI have just started researching a similar trip of Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier for September 2014. I haven’t found anything specific yet other than the iconic Moulton Barn. So I will also be looking forward to finding any information in this thread.

ParticipantI fooled around a bit and it seems that the red and blue color saturations have just been jacked up really high. Cranking those down made it look pretty normal. It may still fall outside the guidelines of making a photo look cartoon-ish, but I’ve probably done that too at some point. I’m mostly surprised that he/she found such a clear sky in Cleveland.

ParticipantI’m not sure the local bowling alley would let me photograph a naked man bowling as Muybridge did. It could be fun though so +1.

ParticipantThat stinks! I hope they cover it all, no questions asked. The clowns at the local stealership overtightened the plug in the center diff of my truck and cracked the housing earlier this year. I drove about 1,400 miles on a road trip before parking it at home for a while. After it sitting there for a week I noticed gear lube all over the driveway. Luckily they covered the ~$450 aluminum cover and it didn’t lock up on me.

ParticipantI fooled around with it a bit in my editing software and in the end only ended up with some small colour adjustments after a tiny bit of straightening (-.2 degrees). I did remove the lights in the top but overall I like the composition.

ParticipantMy goals with my web pages is to make them functional and not bad looking while spending the least amount of time and effort on them. I’ve been using WordPress for the past couple of years and it is very easy once you find a decent template. I have had to edit some of the CSS, but not too much.

ParticipantMy idea for this one was to try refractograph photography but I got tied up with work from TX to MI and now CT. Here’s a video about it and it appears to be simple to set up: http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/how-to-create-refractograph-abstract-photography/ if anybody is interested in trying it.

ParticipantI’ve only used Adorama Pix in the past to have a few things printed on aluminum and one 20×30 canvas in my office. They were okay, but a little washed out on the colors but I thought it may have been the medium. I’m mostly surprised by how bad Snapfish and Shutterfly are. In the future I’ll be using PRO DPI or Millers probably.

ParticipantSo, after some time with the D600 what do you think?

ParticipantHow long does Nikon usually take to do your annual service? I sent a camera in once and had it back within a couple weeks, then the next time there were issues and it took 2 months. So I’m curious how long they take for a routine procedure.
