Farktographer, yes, the first one is at f11 and the second is f5.6. I never thought of that. I was using a 50mm f1.8 lens with a soft focus filter, but all surfaces on those were clean. I had the same spot show up last week on some sunset photos with a different lens. I’ll look to see if it was on the shots with higher f-stops. I do know that it is always in exactly the same place. I wonder what that is? I’m really curious now that you have experienced the same thing.

Not Santa, but my friend offered to buy my camera so I sold it to him and used the cash towards an upgrade to a D7000. So many more settings to tinker with!

Are all of these gelatin silver prints? I can’t seem to find out what he is doing on his website.

I was under the impression that our entries had to be new photos as of 8:00 Eastern Standard Time

That’s what I thought too, until I reread it about 6 this evening. I’m back off to the basement now to try to make a couple more shots.

Anytime I’ve ever seen those courtroom tv shows the biggest thing that gets me is how the people are dressed. Fortunately I don’t have much experience in the courtroom, but I always assumed that one would wear a suit when going before a judge, whether is be Wapner or the Supreme Court.

In any case those people didn’t seem to know what they were doing, I wonder if they paid the $2,500.

My friend is a wet-plate photographer, drop him an email and he might be able to point you in the right direction: http://robertturney.com/

Sorry I’m late to this thread, but it sounds like you are going in the right direction with WordPress. I mess with my own websites in my infinitesimally small spare time and have found templates made for WordPress to be great. I made a photoblog ( http://www.bender16v.com ) and have used another one that required a lot of editing for an online store for my side business of making fishing lures. It’s not live yet because I don’t have time to photograph our products. 😮 I’m no expert, but if you have any questions with it maybe I can help. Best of luck with the new business and don’t sell yourself short, your photos are great!

Hopefully I’ll be able to get some decent shots for this one, next week I am going to Chicago for two weeks. I’ll try to keep my camera handy.

I’ve never been to The Wilds but plan on visiting there sometime when I return to see family. I haven’t lived in Ohio since 1991 but I get back often and I just moved back to Michigan. From what I have read on The Wilds’ website it should be a great place to go on one of their tours. I’ll take a look at Shoot the Hills as well.

aspidites, since you are from Ohio I have to ask if you have all of these animals in your backyard too? Just kidding, I’m actually from Coshocton, just up the road from where all of those creatures escaped. Your photos are incredibly impressive. I shoot a lot of wildlife, but I’m kind of new and hope to get some half as good as these some day.

I read in another post that you use a teleconverter and I had to look it up to see what it does. Do you shoot with one a lot? I read that you lose 1 to 2 stops, but are the images just as crisp? Or more so since you can “bear” right down on the subject?

That is another good reason to avoid Adobe. Plus I don’t like the fact that they seem to have a monopoly on vector imaging. Any printing places I’ve dealt with really want .ai files. I’ve only been able to get by using PDFs exported from Inkscape. I’ll have to look into filesharing for a copy of Lightroom or PS if I decide to buy a legal one too.

I’d like to be able to automate some things since I have 1000s of photos to go through on my computer. Also I feel like Gimp’s “Scale” is not very good, even with Sinc interpolation. It is great software for free though.

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like Lightroom/PS might be worth checking out. I just want to make sure that I am not inadvertently handicapping myself by only using Gimp.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries in this one but I haven’t been to a fair for many years and they are all done for the year up here in Michigan. I don’t know if it is open to the public, but would photos from the empty fairgrounds qualify?

Nice B aspidites! I had an easy enough time choosing the first two, but got stuck choosing a third. Here are a few contenders:
Art installation last week in Kansas City IOU/USA by John Salvest, across the street from the Federal Reserve: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v412/bender16v/IOU8Medium.jpg (tower and transportation, full size is not blurry like small version)
