Read more carefully. He’d have been fine with a crop. DQ’d for digitally removing something that did not alter the substance of the photograph.

He could have burned it into blackness or cropped it out, but using the clone tool was a hard and fast no-no.

Damn, you’re right. The post is poorly written, he could use a good editor.

Best I can tell, he’s a Spaniard and English isn’t his native language, so maybe the confusion is from the translation? Anyway, yeah, I’m surprised a photographer of his caliber wouldn’t have known that manipulation of the photo was a big no-no for a contest, especially a NatGeo contest. Heck, our local state fair even disallows it.

On another note, how cool would it be to go on one of his photo expeditions?

Something tells me, knowing the ‘average’ farker, that we’re all going to lose to the pink bikini, for no other reason than the pink camel toe.

Most every time I think I “know” the average farker, I’m proven decidedly wrong. This contest is a great example. I thought my “shocker” would be good for some humor votes and pics of my kids never do well (and that one was taken with a crappy disposable camera) but she just turned 21 a couple of days ago so I was feeling nostalgic. C’est la vie in Farktopia, I guess. 😕

O shit its wednesday, why didnt anyone tell me earlier. Guess its time to search the archives to see if I have any pink in there.

Didn’t find any, I take it? I didn’t think I had much to work with but wound up with a few extra b-sides here. Since Elvis’ birthday was this week, I almost went with the pink Cadillac instead of my daughter in pink.

// Speaking of photos of ones kids, anyone know what’s up with U-Man & Mopsy’s absence of late?

Congrats on the sweep of individual and combined Els, and congrats to Pope on the shared combined win. Your “first day of summer in Canada” got a chuckle out of me.

Thanks for the votes everyone! Can’t remember the last time I got two in a row (though I’m sure Bibliostats does! 😆 )

Oh yes, Bibliostats sees all and knows all. Let me gaze into my crystal database and look into your past…

Turns out you can’t remember ’cause this is a first for you! Your previous closest back-to-back wins were 4 weeks apart back in ’07 for “Farktography Classic: Halloween 3” and then “Let’s Vent”.

This is your 5th sweep, the last being for “These Foolish Games”.

    Hey NBD,

I meant to post this earlier before the last contest closed but didn’t get a chance before going out of town. In case you missed it (he/she left out the spaces in your username so you wouldn’t have gotten an email about it), you got some pretty high praise in last week’s contest:

Farker I’mNoBigDeal: yes you are! Your concert shots are epic awesome. I’m a former rock journalist who worked with numerous big name concert photogs. You, sir, are up there. Keep up the phenomenal work!

Oops! Sorry about that. 😳 Got caught up in the Sugar Bowl. Not really a Louisville fan (but congrats to all of you who are), but more of an anyone-but-the-SEC kinda guy. 😉

As I mentioned in another thread, I was out of town until late yesterday, so as much fun as it sounds and as much as I was looking forward to this one, it’s looking doubtful that I’ll have time to pull something together for it. Looking forward to the hilarity that I’m sure the rest of y’all will bring to it, though. 🙂

I’m late on the congrats this week because we were in Memphis to watch my team win the Liberty Bowl. It was awesome! We’re the smallest FBS football-playing school in the country and this is our first defeat of a Big 12 team since 1998, so it’s kind of a big deal for us.

Anyway, congrats on win, Els! I love that picture. And congrats on the win in combined, swampa – ditto on all three of yours. It was indeed a close one, but I’m happy with the outcome.

swampa, the jellyfish photo is from Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium – and thanks!. They’ve got a jelly tank with lights that rotate through different colors. I’ve also got a similar one in green. That particular shot has been a B-side in several past contests, so I was glad to have waited on it for this one!

Perhaps it’s Rudolph me to keep stringing these puns along,.

Au contraire, mon ami. I enjoyed them so much I had to touch my elf! 😆

Seriously, though, I echo the sentiments of those above. I enjoy our little contests and the chit chat we share on these boards. In the grand scheme of things, it’s pretty minor, but as they say, it’s the little things that make life enjoyable. So, Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes for a prosperous year filled with joy!

Already been said, but my most hoped-for wish is more time to play with what I already have.

Congrats and happy birthday, swampa! My wife’s is the 18th and her sister’s is the 20th.

And congrats also to Yugoboy for the first in combined.

I spent last Mon & Tues (all night Tues) preparing a report to argue my son’s case for his accident ticket, so I had to sit this one out. Turns out it was just a preliminary hearing where the judge was only looking for a plea, so it was a bit of wasted effort. Not really, though, as the math turned out to strongly support my son’s version of events, so that gave us the confidence to have him plead not guilty instead of taking a deal (which wouldn’t have helped the insurance case). Now we’ve just got to hope that the judge likes physics…

Can I get an OBO for tonight? It’s my first night going back into work in 10 days and I’ll have too much going on to get to posting.

Thanks to Lovesandwich, I’m currently TF, so I can do ya, rav.

Hey since it seems to be working ( the whole website in general) I decided to update my avatar too. Will be back in the contests soon too.

Good to hear, loki. Coincidentally, seeing No Catchy Nickname/LeicaLens post in this last contest got me thinking about the regulars who are no longer so regular and I was wondering where you’d gone just before you posted that. Anyway, take care of yourself and your business and get back into the game when you can.

linguine‘s links are before my time, but it’s been discussed since then, too. I don’t recall exactly when or where, but I remember at some point it being either overtly stated or at least strongly hinted at that burning and dodging were allowed. I remember because it surprised me as I previously thought that spot (dust/hot pixel) removal was the only acceptable localized alteration.

After reading the rules stated in linguine’s links, I’m surprised again to find that perspective correction is allowed. I’ve had several entries that I thought would’ve benefited from perspective correction, but I didn’t think it was kosher, so I’m also curious as to whether those rules are the latest & greatest.
