Crop that dark corner out and use the MIG. (IMHO,FWIW,OMGWTFBFFBBQ)

Done and done. That was my original selection as well before I started waffling. Thanks, fluffy!

    by using high shutter speeds

Ummm….. Crap. Stroboscopic yay or nay?

Tough one. The description specifically says shutter speed, but strobo shots are the first things I think of when I hear “freeze frame.” I’d say “yay” but will have to defer to ‘Cuda.

On another note, anyone want to opine on selections for my third? I’m torn between a MIG-17F, car jump #1, or car jump #2. TIA…

So basically a macro is just a “normal” lens with shaper resolution and the ability to focus closer to a subject? If so, I could definitely see the utility in such a lens (beyond conventional macro shots).

So educate me, caradoc – what are the benefits of a macro lens outside of macro photography? What earns it the “macro” label? (Is it just the closer focusing ability?)

Now THAT is an awesome shot, chupa! Not that the others weren’t (your Wed night’s campsite shot gave me second thoughts about Jamaica vs. wilderness camping, but that’s moot thinking at this point), but this one – wow!

Space cleavage? I’m with everyone else – I don’t know what caused it, but it’s a pretty cool effect.

Awesome! I’ve looked at that one myself before, but I’m not sure if I’d use a macro enough to justify it. Be sure and post some shots in the gallery after you’ve had a chance to play with it (and maybe convince me otherwise ;)).

Hey, you had double 2nd’s, it’s hard to beat that combo. And first? Hardly. Try 17th. First in a long time? That’s a little truer – the last time was for These Foolish Games where you swept single & combined.

    Congrats to oddmind this week!

Seconding that, and adding congrats to Els for the combined win.

Thanks, and you’re welcome! Still got a lot of ideas I want to implement, but that pesky limit of 24 hrs in a day always seems to get in the way.

I hate to be a narc this soon after returning, but isn’t Mopsy‘s rubber gator shot (2012-07-11 08:04:57 PM) a repeat from the reptiles theme ( http://www.fark.com/comments/3981353/Theme-of-Farktography-Contest-No-182-I-for-One-Welcome-Details-rules-in-first-post-LGT-next-weeks-theme?tt=voteresults0 )? (TF only).

Good memory, but it looks to be a different frame. Enlarging the previous image to the same size as the current image and flicking back and forth shows several minor differences, the most obvious of which is the position of one of the blades of grass:

On another note, welcome back. You were mostly gone by the time I got here, but your mark remains on the stats & rankings and it’s always good to see some of the “pioneers” around here.

This was a tough one to narrow down and the first that I’ve had B’s for in a while. Page-full-o-bees here and my soon-to-be A’s here.

That was my concern as well, Kes, and why I asked about it. However, if that’s the case, wouldn’t it go the other way as well and open the theme up to statues of humans and the like (which I don’t think was SS’s original intent, either)?

Yeah, I don’t wanna see snapshots of everyone’s kids at Halloween either. Maybe an explicit “No Halloween shots” difficulty?

// Are you sure about the Playboy bunny shots, though? Might be interesting. You know, for strictly artistic purposes. 😉

I’d bet he’d say humans dressed as animals is within the spirit

I hope so; else it eliminates most of my best candidates.

I’d guess that’s gotta be OK… at least if the costume covers the human 100%

Hmmm, that’d be the same as disallowing humans entirely for me. Here’s an example of what I’m asking about (already used, so not an actual candidate).
