ParticipantHow far does the “no actual animals” ban extend? In particular, what about humans dressed as animals? (NOT furries!)

ParticipantCongrats, ‘Cuda, on your first win and also to uranus for the combined win.
Regarding the file name discussion, I decided to tackle it a couple of ways. See this post for more details.
Also, re: filenames–would that be useful for anyone hosted on Flickr or other sites that change the filename once uploaded?
If you only upload your Farktography entries, it probably wouldn’t be useful (but then you’d already know whether you’d used it before); but if you upload “everything” and want to know if you’ve previously used an entry that’s already uploaded, then the link should be the same (right?), and it might be helpful then.

ParticipantJul 8, 2012 – New Features
Two changes to help with determining previous usage of entries:- All thumbnails now link to the original image and display the full image path as a tooltip.
- A new tab, File Names, has been added to the contestant page. This is a full single-page listing of the file names of all entries and the contest they were used in. The file names themselves are also links to the original image.

ParticipantYou’re welcome, bender16v, glad you like it.
I wasn’t looking at removing any existing thumbs, just trying to decide the best way to add the feature of listing the actual file names. The problem with adding the file names to any existing tab (like the “Sorted by Post Time” tab) is that each thumb is in a fixed width cell so long file names (like most from flickr) would get truncated (as long contest names do now).

ParticipantWould a flat list of filenames be feasible? That way you could Ctrl-F to search against an existing file you were checking
So no thumbs, just a list of file names?

ParticipantCISS, is it possible or am I missing being able to view the file number of photos on your stats page? Some of my photos are so similar that I have trouble determining if I have used them. I keep thinking I’m missing something. Am I?
No, you’re not missing anything, mopsy. I have that info but it’s not displayed anywhere.
It would be a pretty easy change. How would y’all like to see it? As a tooltip? As caption text in the “Sorted by Post Time” tab? Other suggestions?

ParticipantUltimately i wasn’t sure if I’d used it for “He’s a fun guy”, so I ditched it.
You know your entire posting history is on your stats page, right? “Fun Guy” is on the Grouped by Contest tab, page 3, and it doesn’t look like you used that particular one.

ParticipantUnfortunately, it would take a decent bit of effort, ennui. The biggest hurdles are that the scraper doesn’t actively look for new contests (I manually start it up every Wed night and hand-feed it the theme and description) and it’s only coded to support a single active contest at a time.
I thought I was going to have more free time for a while, but it turned out that the light at the end of the tunnel was the train carrying the next project. There are still features I want to add to the Farktography side of it (individual charts, contestant search, contest theme tags, for examples); I could delay those to try to get something up for the PS’ers, but it would still likely be fall before I can get to anything.
Keep me informed on your needs in that regard; if no one else steps up to the plate for PS contests, I’ll see what I can get started as I get some time.

ParticipantFYI when you get to it–I think the server move borked Bibiostats’ data collection.
It looked like the scraper went down sometime Sat morning, so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with the server move or not. It’s been pretty solid recently, though, so I suspect something like that happened that caused it to hiccup.
Normally, I’d have noticed and corrected it ASAP, but my wife and I flew out Friday morning for a wedding in Detroit, drove to see our daughter in Chicago on Saturday, and then back to DTW to return Sunday night, so I didn’t see that it had failed until we got back late last night. (Not that I could’ve done anything about it before then anyway.) It made for a pretty unusual voting chart.

Participantgeom_00, as ennui said, it’s a lot of personal preference, and monitor differences can factor into it as well, but I also found the edited version to be a bit oversaturated and a little dark.
I started with your original and just tweaked the curves a bit to get this version. I first adjusted the curves altogether to get the brightness level I wanted; then I used the color picker to look at the color of a spot I thought should be white. I then adjusted the individual curves to make the white spot’s RGB values equal. Here’s what the curves looked like. I used Paint.NET (which is free), but I use Canon’s DPP on my own RAW files.

ParticipantMinus the macaroni, it sounds a lot like what my wife calls “taco soup.” And I agree with your wife; it does seem to be better the next day.

ParticipantVery pleased with my 2nd place for the Lake Mineral Wells sunrise
Congrats, you should be. I really liked that one.

ParticipantHe suggested he hasn’t seen any rule about an OBO and timing when poster is TF and absent Farktographer is not. Clarification would be welcome so we make sure not to irritate anyone or violate any rules we aren’t aware of.
I can’t see a reason why this would break any Fark rules, we are talking a few hours not days. (As would be the case in a Photoshop thread) If it were something done every week someone might complain, but for one offs like this no big whoop.
It’s been done before for me and no one complained. I think you’re good.

ParticipantOh, and you ain’t gonna suffer much in Jamaica, I’m willing to bet! Try to make the best of it, eh? 😆
LOL, yeah, I started to write that as “Unfortunately, we’re leaving for Jamaica…” and then I realized how silly that sounded. Will definitely be trading the lushness of wilderness for a different kind of “lush”-ness, if ya know what I mean. 😉
