ParticipantYeah, right now bibliostats just goes by filename, so if it was renamed it wouldn’t pick it up as a scarlet R. I’ve got to be careful myself, because I rename all of mine SEntry1.jpg, SEntry2.jpg, and SEntry3.jpg and put them in a contest-specific folder on my website, so I can’t just do a name search either. As my number of entries grows, I’m starting to regret this naming convention.
Assuming it is the same frame, it looks like you used it in Stairway to Heaven, loki. If so, that’s too bad – it’s a nice shot.

Participantchupa, in other circumstances, I’d be really tempted to take a few days off and join you, for both the astro lessons and just to get out in the wilderness (not the Mrs’ cup ‘o tea). But, we’re leaving the next day for Jamaica. Another time, perhaps.

Participantlinguine, I’m torn on a third, but I think 0001 and 0044 for sure. Maybe 0125; I like the “3D-ness” of the clouds in that one.

ParticipantWow, some really creative stuff this week everyone. Particularly liked Uranus’ rainbow lightbulbs, emiliogtz’s car and U-Man’s two-sides.
I’m working out of town (again) so had to skip this one (again). Even worse, my backorder from B&H was finally delivered Tuesday and I’m feeling like a kid a week before Christmas…

ParticipantThanks Els, and to everyone who voted. Like most of my wins, this one too was a total surprise.
People loves them some Space Shuttles 🙂
I believe you’re right, ennui. I was surprised to see my old scan do as well as it did. I really only entered it because chupa wanted to see it in another thread, I happened to find it that morning and the theme happened to align with it. I thought it was pretty cool that we had both ends of its life documented in this contest.

ParticipantThanks fluffy. I’m not so sure how awesome the photo itself is, but awesome/awestruck accurately describes my experience at the time for sure.
August 12 of ’79 would’ve been exactly 4 months after my 16th birthday; I was just about to start my senior year. I had received a Nikkormat (my first “big boy” camera) for Christmas the previous year and I believe that shot is taken with the 50mm F/1.4 lens that came with the camera.
At that point in time, I hadn’t yet found out that I had scoliosis, so as far as I knew, I was going to the Naval Academy to become a pilot after graduation and maybe even eventually get an up close and personal look at this new shuttle they were touting as the future of space travel.

Participant^ citation needed 😆
ohpleasepleasepleaseplease scan and post…
I’ll see what I can do. Scanning and posting is the easy part – finding it is the trick.
Found it. It wasn’t in great shape, but I’m going retro and entering it tonight. Larger version here if anyone’s interested. Taken August 12, 1979 at the Tulsa airport.

Participant^ What Yugoboy said. Awesome shots everyone. orionid, I especially like that 2nd one of yours.
Nice & sunny all day long here until mid-afternoon, then the clouds moved in and kept coming. By the time the sun was low enough to even try shooting without a solar filter, I had nothing but clouds. Had to settle for a decent sunset as a consolation prize (SOOC):

ParticipantWogus, I think if it’s been specifically set aside as a nature preserve, it qualifies. Also, welcome to the forums!

ParticipantIt’s been a long time since I’ve used one (it connected via serial port, if that gives you an idea), but I think the thing you’ll like once you get used to it is the pressure sensitivity.
For example, when doing dodging and burning or vignetting, being able to control the amount of the tool applied to the image by the pressured applied to the pen is something you can’t really replicate with a mouse. If you don’t do much of that or other similar retouching, it may not be worth getting used to.

ParticipantElsinore, all three of gorrck‘s entries this week are repeats from the Abandon All Hope 2: Life After People contest. Evidently flickr has changed their domain names from “static.flickr.com” to “staticflickr.com” (i.e., staticflickr is now its own domain instead of static being a subdomain of flickr). I’ll have to modify the Scarlet R algorithm to check for that. As an example, here are the links from one of the repeated entries:

ParticipantOk, admittedly math is not my strong suit, though I love seeing statistics (go figure). But I’m not grokking “highest entry/contest vote and highest entry/contest NVC”. Is that just the highest percentage of the contest’s votes or NVC?
That was probably phrased poorly; I meant 4 separate additional lists ranked by entrant:
- Highest # votes for a single entry
- Highest # votes for all entries in a single contest
- Highest NVC for a single entry
- Highest NVC for all entries in a single contest (my previous post is a top ten of this list)
Remember that NVC is equivalent to the percentage of total votes cast in tenths of a percent (so fluffy’s combined NVC of 238.96 is 23.896% of the total vote). Make sense?

ParticipantAll of that and more is why I hope I’m never asked to photograph a wedding. Sounds like you learned quite a bit, though, and better with your friends than with a possibly less understanding client. Thanks for the info.

ParticipantThanks for the link, Yugoboy; as Kes said, that’s really cool. I’d actually toyed with the idea of a website like this specifically for Okla historical markers. I saw it as a way of giving purpose to my motorcycle rides. I’ll have to check with the website now before I go out and see if there are any missing.
