😯 Please tell me you’re guessing that works and not speaking from experience… 😆

God, photojojo is just full of precious little things that make me want to engage in an involuntary personal protein spill.

Had to read the rest of your post to understand which way you were going with that…

I had the same thing happen at EPCOT, ennui. Got there waaay early for the fireworks show that night, setup my tripod and everything and people still tried to crowd in front of me as it got close to show time. I’m normally a pretty mild guy, but there was no way I was going to let that happen after staking out that spot for so long.

Pope, if you used it before, it was under a different link or I’d have caught it. You can check all of your entries at your user page at http://www.bibliostats.com/farktography/user/pope%20larry%20ii

I did a quick scan and didn’t see it used previously, but you may want to browse a little closer if you have concerns.

My perfect submission rate is ruined – RUINED, I tell ya!

Not necessarily, depends on how you look at it.

You and I are the only farktographers who’ve participated in more than two contests that have entered the maximum number of entries in every contest in which we’ve entered.

Like you, I have gaps in my participation, but when I’ve entered, it’s been all the way, baby. 😆

All the fun of carrying around heavy bulky lenses without that annoying dSLR quality and manual control. Yay!

Does it come with Apple stickers so you can cover up those unsightly Canon/Nikon logos on the lenses? 🙂

For reference, here’s a shot before it got completely dark and the wind kicked up:

More boats came into the cove later. That grassy hill is also usually filled with people. We had a blue-green algae scare at the lake this year which kept a ton of people away. It’s usually packed for the 4th weekend. The Friday before they actually considered closing the entire lake (keep in mind this is a lake with 1300 miles of shoreline). The following Monday, they issued a statement saying they more or less overreacted and it wasn’t that bad. Too late for all the merchants on the lake.

Mother Nature has not been kind to the lake this year. First, they got over 40″ of snow which collapsed a bunch of boat docks & marinas. Then in May they had a tornado that wiped out dozens of houses, docks & boats. And now the algae.

You do indeed recall correctly, Kes; those are boats and that is Grand Lake. The streaks of light are from the boats swaying in the water because it was so windy that night.

Choc-Ful-A, the fog/mountain/plane shots are really cool. Too bad about the bluriness of the overhead fireworks shots, ’cause that’s a unique and interesting perspective to see them.

When you say “the crop of a particular photo was intriguing,” if you’re referring to mine, well, it wasn’t intentional. I framed the shot at the start of the show, but due to a little, shall we say “overenjoyment” of the evening’s festivities, I didn’t recheck the framing later in the progression and the wind shifted the center which resulted in off-center shots with some of them cutoff on the right.

Elsinore, RagnarD’s repost is the one from 2011-07-07 01:06:41 AM. It is the house picture. Both links are working for me, too; maybe there was an image hosting hiccup when you checked?

Also, another Scarlet R: jimjazz’s entry was previously used in Destroyed

Scarlet R: RagnarD’s entry was previously used in Wallpaper This

Not a scarlet R, but if it’s possible & not too much trouble, could you disenvotenate ELO’s original post as he corrected it in a follow-up post. If that’s a problem, I can disqualify the misposted entry later.

I love this theme and wish I could have done some dedicated pics for it. Damn life got in the way though.

Unfortunately I just didn’t have time to go out and shoot stuff this week.

I wish I had time to really go explore for this contest but the pesky real world got in my way.

And I’m in the same boat. We’re definitely gonna have to do this one again at some point.

I can’t tell you how many things I’ve seen while out riding my cycle in the country where I thought, “That’d make a great entry for an abandoned/seen better days contest, I need to photograph that sometime.” And of course sometime never came so here I am with archive entries (and weak ones at that, IMO).

Assuming a linear relationship and given that a RAW shot from my 8.2MP is 7MB, a 200MP shot would consume about 170MB, giving you about 96 images per 16GB card. So, better stock up on those, too. Although if you’ve got 50 large to spend on a camera, chances are the memory is pocket change. Oh, to have one to play with for a weekend or two…

On another note, long time no post, Uranus! Good to see you around again.

I was asked to re-post the link to the quick ‘n dirty user page I setup, so let me use this post to recap the pages currently available:

    1. Thumbnails of every entry for a given user can be found at http://www.bibliostats.com/farktography/user/UserName, where UserName is the Fark username you’re interested in. For example, this is my entry page: http://www.bibliostats.com/farktography/user/BecauseISaidSo . Note that capitalization isn’t important in the URL.
    2. The results page for the most recent contest can be found at http://www.bibliostats.com/farktography/contest . The actual contest this page points to changes as new contests are scanned, so today it points to Upside Down and at midnight tonight Fark time it’ll point to Abandoned.
    3. The results page for a specific contest can be found at http://www.bibliostats.com/farktography/contest/nnn, where nnn is the contest number from 4 (Seen Better Days) through 321 (Upside Down).

Within a given contest results page you can sort by individual entry place/rank, contestant username, and combined vote totals. You can also view the contest voting charts for contests #286 and later. The results pages also have links to the next/previous contests to ease scrolling through multiple results pages.

I apologize for not having comprehensive navigation links yet (that’s what the Nav Menu Placeholder on the left will become), but I’ve been really slammed at work lately and there’s no sign of any immediate letup. Eventually, you’ll be able to just go to http://www.bibliostats.com and then navigate to all other pages without having to remember specific URLs. There will also be pages where you can search for specific users or contests or view sorted lists of the same.

Or, if there are any lottery winners out there who’d like to setup an endowment so I can work exclusively on the stats site, I’d be tickled pink to do that. 😉

ennui, those are some awesome shots.

I didn’t think the fireworks at the lake this year were as good as some previous years, even though the budget was supposed to be larger this year. We had pretty good winds blow in that evening, which cooled things down but might’ve hampered the show. Here are a few of mine:
