from a google search: Unlike the Pentax ME which came out at the same time and had aperture-priority metering, the K1000 was all-manual only, with a built-in coupled match-needle meter very similar to the Pentax Spotmatic series.

my minolta SRT102 was match needle and i think you will find it fairly easy to use. it will also get you thinking about the trade between shutter speed and aperture/DOF since with match needle you will be selecting both.

interesting camera. and the adapters seem to be a big plus given all the glass you have. speaking of that did you have a radio flyer wagon with you to tote all the cameras/glass on your trip to the botanical gardens or was that several trips?

and i downloaded for wallpaper the wachusett reservoir shot.

but yours definitely garnered a “YES! DR. HOOK FTW!” and some strange looks from the people I was hanging out with.

i was going to do “queen of the silver dollar” but couldn’t make it look right so fell back on “the rose”. glad to see there are a few dr hook fans here besides me.

my luck seems to run the same way. big meteor shower, clear the night before and the night after, cloudy the night of.

**steps up on soapbox and takes a deep breath**

Having said all of that, if it’s the consensus that I’d be taking away from FSM and no one’s interested in a new stats site, just let me know and I’ll continue my work in private.

my reading of this discussion is that folks are in favor of what you are doing. your stats will be somewhat different than schnee‘s because two folks wrote the code to gather them. and while you both may have a “best overall” stat the display/layout of it will be different. at least i think so based on what you have shown us so far. and while each may have it’s fans both are appreciated.

BTW that “code” thing makes my brain hurt.

i seem to remember a couple of folks mentioning wide format printing. but until i get ink i guess it doesn’t matter 🙂 an hour online and while finding decent prices there in none to be had locally. oh well.

i don’t think that’s the case. CauseISaidSo seems to be doing this for his own enjoyment primarily and ask for suggestions just in case someone wants a particular stat. i get the impression that these would run concurrently not as a replacement.

when my sister sent the printer she forgot the extra ink she had and sent it separately. she mentioned that two tanks were running low and those may not be the ones she had and sent.

so i set the printer up, install the software and print my first test. well no it hung due to low ink. and not the ones she sent. damn. and since it’s an older printer ink doesn’t seem to be available locally, just online. damn again.

but it did install and try to print so there’s that.

is this where i talk about using a pentax for my first two rolls of film shot with a SLR. it was a loaner and when i bought i got a minolta SRT102. then an XD-11 and stayed with minolta when i went digital with the 7D. no, ok then.

What differences should I expect between this and my Nikon D3000?

in terms of ease of use the differences are huge. D3000 auto everything. Pentax auto nothing. it most likely has a built in meter and may allow either shutter or aperture priority, maybe either or. you will be much more conscious of exposure in any case since you will have to manually check that it is right. and by that i mean if it is shutter priority you pre select the shutter speed then match the proper aperture to the shooting conditions. the camera meter will guide you but you will have to stop down (or up) manually. and as ennuipoet mentioned there are the taken for granted stuff like advancing the film.

if that camera has a depth of field preview button learn to use it. that’s a great feature. in any case the pentax may not make you a better photographer but it will make you much more aware of your photographs and what goes into capturing an image.

while i’m not truly rural it’s pretty dark here. unfortunately for sky viewing there are countless tress that block the horizon so unless whatever i want to see is 45 degrees plus above the horizon it’s hidden.

hey that’s really cool. idle curiosity but can you tell “before” and “after” by the side of the moon that you see.

but I’m not sure how to factor it out of something like most recent highest vote count.

IMO most recent by definition wouldn’t allow that. say john or mary got 100 votes in feb 2009 and happy with their win went off to celebrate never to return. they would be the defacto winner from there on until someone else got 101. and again IMO best average seems to cover or allow for participation.

I’d also like to see true place rankings, with ties for the same number of votes and no skipping places.

The FSM actually used to do this until someone pointed out that sports competitions general do skip places when there are ties above that place. So schnee changed it in response to that. I preferred the old way myself. truth be told.

I still prefer it the way it is. If I have 8 votes, and four people have 9, I’m still the fifth-highest scoring person, and therefore fifth place, not second.

what he^ said. i don’t know how you would award say second third and forth if they all had the same number of votes.

hey don’t feel bad (not that you do), my favorite and one i thought would do well got the least votes. when i picked up that copy of rolling stone to do the entry i was a bit discouraged by the cover picture but then realized it would work well. either i was wrong because 1) i did a bad job on the execution 2) too few knew the song 3) the voters really are swine before whom we cast our pearls. it’s most likely 1 or 2 since many voted for some good entries even if they weren’t mine.

someone here said you can’t go wrong with legos and that one did the best — so thanks for that.

i could tell by the song titles that my taste in music is outside the current norm and there aren’t enough older farkers for me to score a stunning upset. but i had more fun with this contest than many others so there’s that.
