Participant*gigglesnort* well maybe not last week, but yeah, it ain’t the first time. Damn those early voting teases…
it’s hilarious to me that apparently only one person outside my household thinks a mass invasion of aphids on your rose-bushes is creepy. I was seriously creeped the fuck out when I saw those. They *covered* the plant. Maybe it’s just that aphids don’t hurt *people*. *shrug* 😉

ParticipantJeez U-Man, I go to bed 1 vote behind you and wake up 17 votes behind you. Granted that #1 pic deserves to be ahead of mine, but maaaan! lol

Participanti’d stay away from at least one of my posts in macro bugs when it gets scheduled, QB…. 😉

ParticipantI have to admit that my own pictures give me the creeps this week. Well the tarantula one a little less because it was hard to get creeped out when its owner was talking baby talk to it during the photo shoot…. lol

ParticipantI almost feel like this thread should have a warning: “we really do mean to creep you out!” I’m pretty sure that two of my pix will involve spiders. At least one will.

I don’t like spiders and snakes
and that ain’t what it takes

ParticipantI was a last minute-er today. I actually had a few pix in my “music” folder, but I wasn’t remotely happy with them and none of them made the grade. If you hate the ones I picked, just think how bad the ones I skipped were! Although I have to admit they involved neither toys nor cats, and that’s a plus for some people. 😉

ParticipantI’m assuming that the thing that creates the effect does not have to be in the picture, but, if desired, can be.

Participantthat thing looks pretty cool! 😀 My light box *does* need replacing…. nah, that would and an “and” not an “instead” for us. Our battered but still functional lightbox has the disadvantage of being not terribly portable (you can move it around the house if you need to) but the advantage of being almost a 2′ cube. So we can do some of those elaborate — if weird — things we do. Like Olav’s Mtv Moon Flag or my pirate ship that I did for Money Shots. (I’ve used the ship other times, but that one got me a 10th place, so it gets the mention 😉 ). We built ours, ourselves, btw, if you are ever feeling crafty and want the “recipe” 🙂 It’s uglier than sin, but it works.

Participanti just posted in the thread to this effect, but: that’s a helluva job you did there. 🙂

ParticipantThanks, justkat! The selection bit was the hardest part, being careful and using a small enough selector while zoomed in enough to get exactly what I wanted to select without too much of anything else. After that, it was deciding what filters to use. I didn’t really have an end goal in mind of what I wanted it to look like, I just futzed with the filter and their settings to see what I did and didn’t like.
I still haven’t figured out how to make a border type thing where it’s pixelated fading in and out of the picture, soft corners, etc, either fading to black or coming in from white. I did it once in one picture and haven’t duplicated it since.
I got some neat fresh tomato shots the other day that seem to be begging to be played with, but we’ll see where they end up.
Well you are really on your way, that’s for sure! Just messing around is the best way to learn. I had to learn on the fly for this contest too; I’d never used any of the program’s features other than the basic lighting/color/sizing type stuff… well a few other things, but the stuff I did this week was pretty much all new to me too. 🙂
Get your tomato pix looking as nice as you like them and then make a .txt file in the folder with the pictures saying what they are, keywords, whatever so that when the time comes that you need awesome tomato pictures and you can’t remember when you took them, you can search your computer.
/we keep meaning to implement this cunning plan… I think I have about 2% done… 😯
