ParticipantFortunately Virginia only got the lightest of dustings from that storm, otherwise there would have been mass hysteria. I couldn’t figure out why people at work were talking about calling in over the weekend when they predicted light snow until I remembered this is one of those states that freaks out over an inch or less even though they get snow almost every year.

ParticipantI’m going to post the boobies tonight and also clean up the spam…

ParticipantYup only gallery avatars are enabled. Fortunately there’s a fair number to choose from if you want an avatar.
Totally irrelevant note, my cat is lying on the floor next to me with his fluffy belly exposed and his tongue sticking out. Hilarious and cute. But moving to get the camera will disrupt him.

ParticipantI definitely think this will be a lower participation theme but I’m also expecting some higher-than-usual quality entries. So we’ll see what that does to voting.

ParticipantYou actually do have the same rights in the U.S. but if you’re on government or privately owned property, they have the right to limit or prohibit photography. I think the confusion is dual-sided; people sometimes don’t realize that publicly accessible places like a train station or museum does have the right to limit photography inside but many low-level security and law enforcement officials don’t realize you can’t make a law to prevent photography of things like bridges because they are in the public domain, nor is there any legal right to confiscate film/sd cards/delete photos.
The .pdf fluffybunny linked makes a great point about how photography hasn’t been involved in any modern terrorism acts, nor would it have helped them, and with the proliferation of high quality cell phone cameras anyone who did want to take photos of something for nefarious purposes would be unlikely to drag around the attention grabbing DSLR and 400mm L glass.

ParticipantThat is so incredibly adorable, I just about went into sugar shock.

ParticipantYeah I saw that. What I want to know is, if say orionid, myself, U-Man and ennuipoet all sponser lokisbong for TF at the same time – does he get 4 months free, and if he were to then sign up for TF on his own afterwards, do we all get the pass back?

ParticipantSounds cool. I’m not sure if that would fit in this theme but I’ll let Pope_Larry make the final call on that.

ParticipantWhen we were in Shenandoah this past June we saw a butt ton of deer (which isn’t so exciting since they live in our front and back yards) and I casually remarked about wishing to see a bear. About five minutes later we came around a curve and there was a black bear just chilling next to the highway. orionid slammed on the brakes and started to back up, but he was skittish and lumbered into the woods right away. I only got two shots off…but my camera was still set on f/22, low 1.0 ISO from being outside midday in the summer and I was shooting through the back of the truck which is a tinted window. So, this is all I got for the effort:

Participantfluffybunny that’s an excellent guide we’ve referenced here before. I’d encourage anyone who is concerned about taking photos in public (especially in an urban non-tourist setting) to be familiar with it although I hope no one gets hassled for Farktography themes.

Participantkashari I think when I wrote “whole subject” that was something of a misnomer. I don’t think the whole subject needs to be displayed in the three photos but you do want your photos to give you the sense of what the subject is – for example if you were photographing a pair of dice and you just shot the sides rather than a side, an edge and a corner you lose the dimension of the subject.

ParticipantMy new VA license plate will be WNTR CMN. 😀
I really like the first one. Our snow lasted all of about 5 min and I wasn’t about to go out in it since everyone in VA freaks out over flurries.Kestrana
ParticipantI actually rather liked the difficulty because it pushed me out of my comfort zone but it will make the theme inviting to more people if the difficulty is removed. I can still personally work on the ideas I had in mind.
I also support your distinction that the photos should be parts that together show a whole subject as opposed to three whole pictures of the same subject arranged together. If I read you right, you don’t want entries that look like a seamless arrangement or whole photo broken into pieces, even if it is from multiple frames. – This distinction would answer aspidites, yoyo, and gambitsgirl‘s questions.
I might rewrite the theme description as:
“Take three photos of different parts of a living thing or object and combine them in a triptych for a single fark-sized creation. As usual, you can submit three entries.”Kestrana
ParticipantYeah it would be an awesome trip but it’s not in the cards for us atm. We’ll be on the West Coast at some point though, since my dad lives in Portland.

ParticipantFrom the original discussion on this theme U-Man had listed this artist’s work as his inspiration: http://www.flickr.com/photos/theblackstar/sets/72157626117942754/
Not that you have to use that same photo arrangement, but I’m thinking more like the second image you posted and not like the first, but ultimately it’s U-Man‘s clarification to make.
