ParticipantWhat orionid said. Also, driving coast to coast with a driver that will veer off to the shoulder and stop when the passenger starts yelling about wildlife on the side of the road, specifically moose.

ParticipantWe were not using off camera flash, just in camera.

ParticipantWow that was…disgusting.
Also you do realize U-man‘s mom is Mopsy?
Kestrana
ParticipantWait, y’all are making me confused…”from the passenger’s side of the car” to me implies the photographer/camera was in the passenger’s seat, not necessarily that you had to shoot out the passenger side window. What is right here?
Kestrana
ParticipantI did it too!!!!!

/more where that came from

ParticipantI’m no expert but as a voter I can say this. The first one isn’t bad but it doesn’t have any “wow” factor to it. It’s a nice picture in a bunch of other nice pictures.
The second one would be cooler without the reflection, also looks a little blown out or overexposed.
The last one is a cool picture no doubt, but there’s a dozen other “water droplet on glass” sorts of pictures this week and where there’s a lot of repetition I think there tends to be fewer votes.Anyway, don’t let it get you down. I won last week and this week I’ll be lucky to accumulate 15 total votes.

ParticipantNah, it’s good that we can all have a discussion about these topics. Obviously it’s something people have been thinking about.

ParticipantI hope there’s no speed limit. I have one picture that I really want to use that was taken about 5-10 mph.

ParticipantYou don’t like Little Richard? But, tutti fruitti…

ParticipantI didn’t think we would seriously do an all-Japan theme but I needed an example of an extremely restrictive theme. I’ve wanted to suggest something like “Real America” however, especially since 4th of July is here, something like “what does America mean to you?” with apple pies and flag waving kids, etc. But we have a lot of people who don’t live in America that participate so I wouldn’t suggest a theme like that even if a lot of people might want to do it.
Also, I’m not advocating breaking the rules, but I generally take an approach that is 1) if it doesn’t specifically say not to do it, then maybe it’s possible to do it and 2) it’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission. That being said, in my own photography I think I’ve always contributed something that stayed well within the bounds of the theme.

ParticipantRain is hard enough as it is. That said, rain is falling water, so I never specified the source *had* to be atmospheric clouds, either. I’m move for leniency here.
it’s your theme and your call
BUT
don’t we want these contest to be challenging?
IMO it’s ok if not everyone can play every week. i have never lived where it snows any measurable amount and for contests about snow i’m pretty much out. rain and i’m good, so this week i had choices.
we have a contest every week, please let’s try to stick to the theme more closely. IMO we get better photos both in quality and creativity that way. as for leaving it to the voters … hell the posters often don’t read the theme guidelines do you really think the voters do?
Elsinore (and other old timers) have heard me on this before but i felt compelled to post.
There’s actually a lot of theme ideas I’ve thought about suggesting but decided not to because it wouldn’t be fair and encourage the casual poster to participate. This contest is one of the things I do and work on every week, photography being one of my prime hobbies. If we had a theme say, “Japan: pictures of Japan. Must be taken in Japan,” well then I would be screwed and upset that week.
IMHO taking a narrow approach regarding the theme doesn’t always breed more creativity. Challenge is good but what fun would a week be where only 100 photos get entered? For example, if you don’t get snow where you are, my personal take is, crush up some ice cubes and make a lego snowball fight or something. As a voter I’m more interested in seeing a solution to the problem than no entry from your talented lens.
/just my 2cs

ParticipantYes you’re right. In the end you’re the moderator and I know you’ll do what you think is most fair for everyone.
Kestrana
ParticipantWe would never have known if it hadn’t been captioned as such anyway
Kestrana
ParticipantYeah I feel bad for putting the idea out there as it’s not my theme but I also felt bad for the people who live in rainless areas.
Kestrana
ParticipantI was happy to see you there lokisbong, well deserved for something so unique and creative.
