ParticipantNice, I just looked at one picture when I was quickly going through fark the first time and didnt realize it was a gallery.

ParticipantAhhhh. Photoshop contests. Those things are what sucked me into fark. I was doing those for about a year before I started the photog stuff. Fun stuff. Did you know there is a photoshop ‘FSM’? I don’t remember doing 110 of those things.
I wonder if I can get my pics back up…..
I knew that there was a photoshop fsm but I never knew where it was, thanks for sharing.

ParticipantIve always thought of anything that uses tonemapping, whether its from a single raw or multiple exposures, as hdr. All 3 of my shots used for this last hdr contest were all from a single raw where after I got them on my computer I thought these might look better in hdr. Even though just using 1 raw is a single exposure its still increasing the dynamic range of the image from what you would have in the original image digitally. From looking back over some of the original discussions we had about whether or not to allow hdr photos everyone seemed to be considering multiple exposures or an hdr from a single raw as the same thing so I’d lean towards not allowing any tonemapping. Also, I wouldnt want to be Elsinore trying to police something as subjective as a mild amount of tonemapping.

ParticipantI have to call out linguine though. This is creepin’ me out. Way back w/ “Rocks” I had a shot of the Grand Canyon that I wanted to use and saw that you posted one of the EXACT same location and crop. There have been 3 or 4 others since that have been creepy similar, but don’t come to mind and didn’t bother to mention it. But this week puts it over the line for me. I didn’t post this week, was out of town last night, but the only shot I had in mind was this one: http://www.speedpicks.com/oneone.jpg
Compared to your meerkat shot…. I dunno. Sure people are going to have similar shots but it’s like you’re in my mind, man. Anyhow that’s a long-winded way of saying that I like your shots. Ha!
Well its good to know that my spies aren’t just making stuff up and are actually earning their money.

ParticipantIn 5 years we’ve done 3 hdr contests, so I dont think we’ve gone overboard with them. While I usually prefer regular photos better, its fun to change things up with these types of contests occasionally.

ParticipantI am also having a lot of problems getting this to look right. I cannot afford Photomatix and I am not getting very good results from Qtpfsgui. I spent like six hours yesterday and they all end up looking like the mermaid I posted here Feb 04, 2010 except with more trees and other green things. this is the best of the three I uploaded I think.

ParticipantIs anyone else having trouble getting this week’s contest to open or is it just my computer? I went to vote tonight and the contest site appears to come up but where the pics should be it’s blank.
I haven’t had any problems with the contest but I did get the beer on servers message in the politics tab so fark may be having some problems.

Participantok it’s nitpicking time 🙂
if your subject is truly bad ass why would it need explaining?
The way I look at it is if I like a shot and theres no caption but I can tell why its bad ass Ill vote for it, but if theres no caption and Im not sure why its bad ass I won’t vote for it even if its a good picture.

ParticipantHere’s one of the many times Santa fell down on me while I was trying to get the Santa shot I used before I figured out to just build a guide rail to keep him going straight.

I think I took 80 or 90 shots before I got the idea to build a rail.linguine

ParticipantWhen is the swearing, hitting things, crying and giving up contest?
I always just assumed that was the last contest of each month.
