Well, I submitted my first two pictures!! They got a couple of votes each, so I’m pretty happy with that!

Both pictures just kind of “happened”. I’m sure everyone here knows what I mean by that. Isn’t it great when everything sets up so perfectly in the picture, that when you see it you can’t help but say “Wow. Nice pic” 😀

Congrats, brother. That closeup is pretty sweet. The whole key to good animal shots is getting those eyes in focus. I, too, submitted a chillin’ cat shot, too, that just “happened” – really, most of my shots are like that (and life, too, for that matter).

As for the dingy yellow color, a quick walk through the Photoshop Levels should take care of that. Rather than using the Auto feature, I recommend going through the R, G & B separately. You can then always hit Auto afterward and if you like your settings better, just hit Splat-X (on a mac, anyway) before you hit OK.

It really is a great medium. I love your flower shot, veruca; the restraint of b&w leaves the color explosion to the imagination.

Very cool shot and it might be a good way to introduce him into darkroom burning – well, if it were b/w and all. But still, it’s a good opportunity to teach him about working on the contrast (via exposure) betwixt dog and flooring.

I think idea #1 is definitely the way to go – I’d like to maybe make a small scrapbook or something – maybe we can do it periodically, like a new year’s tradition or whatnot.

it is very very odd to have this many people over 60 out and about around me. disorienting, to say the least.
