The ancient shoreline ended up as a b-side: here.

Are ancient shorelines (now high and dry) ok? There is a body water in the background of the shot that currently occupies what was the bottom of the ancient lake, but strictly speaking it’s not the same body of water that formed the ancient (750 – 1500 A.D.) shoreline feature that is the focus of the shot.

I’d also love to do this theme (or similar) again. Getting photos for this was really fun (though the mosquitoes were not so fun, hopefully I’ll remember to bring some OFF! next time …).

Somewhat ironically given the theme, my entry is now broken. Here’s the flickr link if anyone is curious: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30164863@N05/3197779831/. It’s probably rather late to restore it now, but feel free to do so anyway Elsinore (it’s at 2009-04-02 02:29:01 AM) since it would be hard for it to do worse than last time (2 votes).

I was living in Vancouver up until August and I was raised in Agassiz (a 1.5 hour drive east). I will assemble a list. How far “interior” were you thinking?

I think I’d rather have contest related realizations before said contest opens, but two hours after main page listing isn’t too bad I guess (at least when the idea only involves looking through my archives).

In case anyone was curious (ie. text that I might have added to the post if my brain was behaving) the guy in the pictures is my boyfriend. In the first picture we were in the south-east corner of the Yukon, “near” Watson Lake, in late June. The second picture is in the north-east corner of BC (Muncho Lake), also in late June. The last is near Vancouver in late December.

Yeah, I realized after posting that I was two weeks and a bit late on the reply. I wasn’t in Tucson for those dates anyway, I was home for Christmas (also the reason for the two week reply lateness).

I’m in Tucson. Consider taking the time to wander to one of the nearby mountains. I got some pretty pictures at Kitt Peak without even trying when I was there for an observing run a couple years ago.

….. um, what’s standard procedure when one forgets to make one’s pictures voting enabled? >_>

You could re-post with voting enable and ask for the previous one to be removed.

I have re-posted. So much for my desire to limit n00bish or otherwise silly behaviour. *sigh* I actually managed to post one of my pics without VE twice! Please excuse me while I go find my brain. o_O

OK, I can’t help pitching a question out this week too. I’m on the fence about two Koi shots, one of which is abstract and sloppy and another which is clean and high contrast.

I was also all set to post one spiky orange fruit but have a co-worker that likes a a different shot of the same plant.

Feedback is welcome, no need to censor.

For the fish, I like the clear and high contrast one because you can see the variety of colours of the fish and the movement of the water. I have no preference for the fruit.

    A question of my own:

When I was in the Netherlands I came across a fountain that had the water coloured orange (presumably for Euro 08 ). I am unsure how to crop it to get the best effect. The photo was taken with the primary subject as the person standing next to the fountain (who doesn’t want to appear). I’m tempted to concentrate just on the orange jets, but the building in the background is pretty cool (though not orange).

maximum portion of photo without the person
    possible crop 1
    possible crop 2

I shudder to think how much orange colouring was needed to get a colour that vibrant. 🙂

So, I’ve already forgotten the password for my fairly newly created fark account (sometimes I wonder how I got in to grad school). While I’m waiting to hear back from farkback you can see my pictures here and here if the fancy takes you. I’ll get them on the fark thread as soon as I can. :/

….. they’re now up and my browser has been instructed such that it can supply the needed information the next time my brain goes on vacation.
