What Orionid said! Lomography the art and craft is all cool. Lomography the Sales Pitch is profound fraud. Paying top dollar for sub par equipment easily found for pennies on ebay is the sort of thing Hipsters do with their father’s credit card.

    This…

orionid, which remote flash triggers did you get? Are you happy with them? For about 1/8th the cost of a set of PocketWizards, it almost seems too good to be true. I know that you don’t get remote TTL or power control with them, they’re just triggers, but that’s mostly how I’d use them anyway.

As it is I don’t think my shots are going to fair well, so if I have to sit it out for lack of equipment, so be it.

(going with an animal/vegetable/mineral theme, obviously)

Umm that 1st one is a cat, and a good cat shot at that. I think you get an automatic number of vote just for posting a cat.
    Actually I like all 3.

A minor trim is one thing. You probably wouldn’t even know from looking at it. I would say that U-mans example is too much for my taste.

I’m in the no crop camp. It’s too late to add to the difficulty but I will probably take cropping into consideration when voting. I always felt that part of the challenge of using a prime is that you have to compose more carefully to get the best effect from the lens.

Oh, and I forgot to mention–I have a dance gig tonight, so I won’t be home to do the Fark thread congrats until kinda late. Don’t worry, I will get to them (and it looks like it’s too close to call again this week, anyway).

    U-man, U-man or U-man… LOL! 😀

Apparently the subtle nuances of Cannibal Corpse are lost on the average Fark voter…

/Truth be told, my choice is the NRA, but I’ll readily admit that’s right out. Maybe we should avoid political organizations alltogether.

    LOL!!

How about we do Right To Life and Planned Parenthood. Start a full on flame war over a charitable donation.

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep has my vote too, very worthy cause that does something I could never in a million years do.

So I go to the dollar store yesterday to get the ceramic figurine for my shot and the lady at the checkout says”these are so cute I bought one of each”(there was a whole set of them) to which I replied “yea I’m pretty much just gonna smash it with a hammer for a photograph” I don’t think she was expecting that response!

    Here is my version

_MG_8790 by MusicInPictures.net (Ken Cote), on Flickr
    Opened in Adobe Camera Raw
Auto fix button (I find this to be a good starting point on many photos)
reduced brightness & exposure from what the auto fix set them at
boosted vibrance & clarity a bit
    opened in PS elements 6
open duplicate layer to work from
Run through Topaz DeNoise 5 on Raw Lightest setting
Boost slider for recover detail & reduce blur
Run through Topaz InFocus to sharpen a bit
Isolate sky and boost saturation a bit
    merge layers and save

After looking at it in the browser I went back and boosted contrast a bit.

All this darkroom talk is a bit beyond my learning. 1 year of photography class in HS only took us so far. I do understand what you are saying and the processes you describe make sense to me. I do not feel as though these steps violate the letter of the law of farktography rules, however I can see how some might feel it is skirting the line. I use layers all the time in my processing, as sleeping said, it is the best way to work images without damaging the original file.

I don’t worry too much about stats, but I do like looking at them. Your list is pretty neat. I have only missed one week since I started (I believe it was the second week). I know that I could do better in the voting because when I actually put effort into shots I do relatively OK.
