ParticipantWell, they don’t like us talking about it, but MK does get clouds every once in a while. One of my roommates just had a two night run on Keck, the first night of which was clouded out.
When I was up there in March, I got the sense that they were only half joking when they told us to not take pictures of clouds on the summit. I did anyway:

ParticipantHappy b-day, Rav!

ParticipantHey, at least you guys can get a CSC. They don’t even make ’em for us out here.

ParticipantI got a 7/10 as well. On all three of the ones I got wrong, I was borderline, mostly because the sample image was so small and at such poor resolution. I was very proud of myself for correctly identifying one photo because of the noise banding. There were a couple, however, where the focus just looked bad all over, and I basically just guessed there.

ParticipantPlama, as awesome as a cross-collaboration sounds, I’m not sure my ego could withstand working with someone who’s actually still a master of higher math. “Use it or lose it” is a harsh reality for me and my math skills. By “implement”, I meant “integrate with an open-source library created by people who still understand this kind of stuff.” 🙂 The library I’ve got my eye on is at http://phash.org.
I’m not so sure how applicable the term “Master of Higher Math” is to me, even though it sounds pretty cool. I do know a bit, but my weakness is the programming-I know just enough to do exactly what I want (although not necessarily efficiently) and no more. Using stuff from a library is probably a WAY safer bet. Also easier. And quicker.

ParticipantOh man, CISS, if you implement eigenimages at bibliostats, you may become my favorite person ever. I may have to volunteer some of my time to help out with that…

ParticipantI thought I had a couple of good ones but…
I brought a twelver of Newcastle. Care for a few?
Hey, I still think your into the sun one is spectacular. I’m always up for a beer, though.

ParticipantThis is finally a reason to get that waterproof film camera I’ve been looking at. Kind of wish I’d brought my SRT-101 to the island, though. It was actually pretty darn good.

ParticipantI already knew I didn’t have a ghost of a chance this week before I checked out the thread, but I’m really pleased to see so many amazing entries all the same. This is one of those weeks when I can just sit back and enjoy the entries instead of worrying about how well I’m doing in the voting.

ParticipantGod, it’s like you’re in my head.
/How’d you get in there, anyway?
I’m not sure myself, but would it kill you to tidy up in here every now and again? 😛
It might. 😛

ParticipantI generally post mine in the order I like them. But in a bit of geometric OCD perhaps, if I have two portaits and a landscape (or vice versa), I’ll rearrange the order so that the odd man out is framed by the other two. Hmm. That sounds weird even to me after writing it out…
God, it’s like you’re in my head.
/How’d you get in there, anyway?

ParticipantI will never understand voters. That is all.
Okay, not all: I’m not saying I should do better than someone else or even than I am…. It’s just the ORDER of them! 😉
I think we’ve all felt that at one time or another. I sometimes try to post my pics in the order I think they’ll finish in (though I didn’t this week), and I’m usually baffled when it turns out completely reversed from what I predicted.

ParticipantMan, I’ve really got to get used to contests going up at 2 PM now. Unfortunately, t’s a really awkward time for me-right between class (1-2) and colloquium (3ish to 4:30). I completely spaced it this week until just now. D’oh.

ParticipantGood to hear you’re headed out of the woods. Sorry to hear it was such a horrible experience, though.

ParticipantI can’t believe I didn’t hear about this until it was over. Next year, I’m entering for sure.
