Fair enough. Oddly, though, back in the day when I only had a PAS camera, I had a butterfly that had the misfortune of landing his body smack-dab in the middle of my car antenna while on the way to work. I snapped a couple pictures (none of which are good, really; it was a 4 mpxl cam), but I always thought it was a unique shot, both for me, and the butterfly. I still have them, and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this contest, until I saw the quality was lacking even moreso than my usual submissions. I’d never imagine a butterfly could be so cleanly, yet not completely, split in two.

    Here’s the best one:

Also, I don’t think living matters as long as they’re not all nasty and smashed up.

Well I’m glad they don’t have to be alive, and I’m kinda dismayed about ‘not all nasty and smashed up’. Does dessicated count as smashed up? As it, it’s a desert, and things dry out here? Honest, I didn’t squish anything, it just dried that way.

I tried to get a live (or rather, soon-to-be-freshly killed) sample, but they’re faster than my tweezers.

I did, though, spy another interesting sample while I was trying, and I’ll be submitting that result, at least.[/b]

Irfanview is an excellent basic editor; I’ve used to for years; it’s dependable, allows all sorts of conversions (R->G->B, color to B/W, jpeg to tiff or gif or bmp and plenty of others.) Until I figured out I got better software from my camera manufacturer (thanks to this group, btw), I was pretty damned pleased with it. Not so much anymore, but as a starter (and free as in no spyware or viruses) program, I recommend it. I took the liberty of tweeking it with Irfanview, and came up with this:

I’m noticing several images are showing up skewed for some reason; one was mine (I reloaded the laser shot on my website and it seems to fix it–same file, but now it shows correctly); Orionid’s NSFW image (the post shot, not the ‘real’ image) is another, one of U-man’s shots as well, Mopsy’s frog–anyone else seeing this or is it just me?

On the one hand, I was thinking it should be the nerdy parsing, as that’s how it’s written. On the other hand, my best idea for this thus far requires a looser interpretation. Will Bucky chime in before too long, I hope?

How come the stat manager says I only posted two images this week (salt, laser, magnets, 1,2,3…yep, 3.)

It’s fortunate that this contest is after June 9th. Which, if you follow the night skies, tells you what I’ll be posting a picture of.

Well, by that point, it will have been voted on, so that’d be changing a photo after it has votes….not really kosher at that point.

mmkay then. (although at the moment it doesn’t have any votes).

phew! When I get home tomorrow morning, okay if I replace it with the actual sized (non-composite) photo rather than the cropped image I had to ghetto-fy here at work?

I’ve edited the main picture, though the linked one still has the insets (hope that qualifies?; I gotta start work in a minute, all I have to work with for editing on this work computer is *gasp* “MS Paint”) It’s a bear to use cheezy paint to edit.

well I have nothing for tonight. life has conspired against me on so many levels. I don’t seem to have very many childish things anymore and I couldn’t figure out how to get any usable pictures with the crappy weather outdoors that could be used tonight. between that and becoming unemployed at the end of last week my brain is not working in kid mode this week. hopefully I can find some bugs to shoot before next week rolls around.

Take a picture of yourself throwing a tantrum. that’s childish, and you should have outgrown it, but given your circumstances, who would blame you?

If you’d suffer moving to Az, my company (Microchip) is still hiring. But mail, or fax, in your resume. The online apps get mostly ignored.
