ParticipantElsinore wrote:The reflection/refraction shot is nicely executed, Ravquote]Thanks; it was a b-side for I forget which contest (I think it might have been SOOC). The only thing I didn’t like about it was that you can’t see the upper glass against the black on the right side, so it makes the bottom right side look funky. But I was pressed for time. I hold Yugoboy responsible. Nice to see its off to a good start; that’s unexpected (and typical; never will understan’t de vote’ers.)

ParticipantSorry to hear that rav.
While I didn’t shoot specifically for this, I made sure my pix fit. You’ve got to have a deep enough archive to manage something well above “sub-par.” Your work is usually well above “par,” and I’m surprised you can’t find a single “biology” or “meteorology” pic to use.

//I was running late anyway. 🙄

ParticipantIf it’s any clarification, it’s an internal camera in the scope, 640×480 VGA res, about 1/3 Mpxl, with interpolation up to 1600×1200, per the instruction manual (yeah, had to peek). 5x optical zoom. f/3.6. And it does actually have a shutter button on top of the scope. (I think I may gift this one and get the one with 1.3 Mpxl…)
I’m torn on this. On the one hand, there is a camera involved, but on the other hand, it’s basically taking a frame from video, if I’m reading that correctly. And I’m not sure how I feel about frame grabs from video. On the other other hand, I don’t think I feel strongly enough about this to disallow it outright.
Not really correctly; it’s a capture of a live moment, just like any other camera (if I chose to record it as video instead, it would be the same as using the video recording an a lot of DSLR’s these days; neither is required, you either take a snapshot or record a video, or you’re just viewing live through a lens, albeit on a screen, but then ‘live view’ is on a screen, too).
It’s a moot point anyway. What I wanted to capture, I cannot find. So I did nothing. Skipping this week, as I have many recent weeks. Tired of posting sub-par images that ‘fit’ for lack of time to take better images with purpose. Didn’t manage to get anything done this weekend beyond working some OT, and doing laundry/cooking/cleaning.

ParticipantCouldn’t find a prop for one shot (and ran out of money even if I did; ironically in 2 days I’ll have boo-coo bucks, today I have $2.14). Can’t find the 1/2mm x1/2mm subject for the second. Don’t have the will to iron creases out of 20 sq ft of canvas for the third. Probably sitting this one out; may find something in the arch’s, but it will (again) be weak. I hate the 12 hour night shift. And the overtime that I’ve yet to collect for. And my own procrastination/laziness/lack of determination/weak spirit most of all. I think I need a nap.

ParticipantDude! I love Arcus Young!–I’m such a big AC/DC fan; I didn’t even notice him till you mentioned it; how excellent that you got the shot with him there! 😀

ParticipantOh, sure caradoc, let’s just post this everywhere for people to see!
;p
I particularly like the light in the clouds; was that from the lightning, or was that from the sunlight still hitting them up there?

ParticipantI thought Ron Howard expressed interest in making a film based upon it, and needed the model release? Well that’s what I heard, anyway.

ParticipantQuestion for the mods: “Screen captures are not acceptable”. However, I have a microscope (this one http://www.amazon.com/Carson-Digital-Microscope-Binoculars-Microscopes/dp/B004MNF4BQ/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1347119530&sr=8-6&keywords=zpix that displays a magnified view on-screen, and can be captured with a mouse. So not a screen capture like the PrtSc button (it’s a live-view, captured digitally in the moment), but alson not a camera in the ‘normal’ sense of the word (DSLR, P/S, iPhone).
In or out. I haven’t used it yet; might gift it out, don’t want to open it if it’s definitely ‘out.’

ParticipantI’ve actually come up with not one, but a whole TWO ideas for this one. First time I’ve been semi-excited about photography in weeks. Hope they’re executable and come out like what I’m envisioning.

ParticipantI’m with ^this guy^. I got OT again, which is good, but leaves me even less time than I didn’t already have for pictures.

ParticipantSome Scarlet R’s, and would someone please tell Rufus Lee King that it’s a contest, not a friggin gallery? He didn’t vote enable, but they would only under the loosest of possible definitions fit the theme (mostly) and he put up like 8-10 pictures.
