ParticipantScans of old photos you’d taken long ago are fine for contest entries. It’s using the ‘scanner’ as a ‘camera’, as in like what we did in this contest, that’s not typically allowed. It’s pretty often that someone digs something up from the vaults of non-digital photography and uses them in a theme–so long as it’s a scan of a photograph you took, it’s fine.
Elsinore, did I splain that rightly?

ParticipantYou’re a God among farktographers, CISS
//Good thing I don’t work tomorrow. I’ll be busy with this. I’m a stats guy by nature.
Tanks!!

Participant*STOP THE PRESS!!* (and stop standing by!)
CISS just made an announcement about the new stats manager:http://farktography.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=2910
//damn, that was timely!
ravnostic
ParticipantOh, yeah–and welcome! It’s a great group here–they’ll help ya in any way they can in any photographic way possible.
ravnostic
Participantpardon the spelinz errors. It’s late.

ParticipantNot stoopid quezteon.
The ‘Photo’s’ folder hasn’t been updated in a loooong time (go back far enough and it’s populated.
Usually, everyone just uses the Farktography stat’s manager (link in upper left of page), but it went down last week, and the host for that site is vacationing in Europe, thus either hasn’t realized it yet, or has–but is busy having fun in real life instead (can’t blame him!).
We also have a user here who is building an alt. site for such things (really it’s about the stats, but you do get to see the pictures), but that hasn’t gone live yet.
So for now, if you go here:
And scroll down through the photoshop linkages, you’ll find our contests. If you are looking for a particular one, and know the date (which will be a Wednesday), you could page through to get there somewhat rapidly.
At the moment, it’s the best we go. Hopefully Schnee, who does the stats mgr, will come home from Europe, notice things are amiss, and correctify it. Or the other will get their version online soon.
Sorry for the technical difficulties. Please stand by. 🙂

ParticipantDamned forest fires. I’ll have to go with plan II.

ParticipantPlama–we still on for the 20th? I’ll be kinda late (near sunset kind of late); I work tonight, but should be able to get to the observatory around maybe 7ish?
//charging batteries now…
ravnostic
ParticipantMe too. I know Plama and I did it recently for “Clouds”.
And “hmph!” to being gentlemanly! 😛 I’ll take every last vote I can get, always, to weigh against those weeks when I completely fail. But how nice to be included in your thoughts among the pillars of farktography such as U-man and SilverStag 🙂 Makes me feel special, and not in a special needs kind of way. 😛
Definitely hi-5’s to you for the win this week, CISS–that picture really hit the nail on the head.

ParticipantAh, the dangers of recycling!! (They don’t tell you that in the commercials!)
My thought on this contest is things that currently don’t have a use, and aren’t being tended to/for, as in the television series ‘Life After People’ (of which, if you have NetFlix, you can see episodes.) But being realistic, ask yourself “Is it currently being used?” and “Is it being cared for?” If no, then it’s probably good. Obviously some geographic areas will present more difficulties than others. Your abandoned Folsum powerhouse, for example, may not be abandoned per se, but can you capture a picture of it that lends to the impression that it is? (i.e., if they mow the grass around it–shoot above the grass for example).
And perhaps Elsinore or one of the newer mods could change the description to read “places and/or things”? An old doll, lying 1/2 infused in the soil for 1/2 a year where a little girl (or boy for that matter) dropped it, could make a photo that would fit the theme nicely.
As usual, I prefer to keep the theme somewhat liberal in scope, to make it easier to moderate and allow people to adapt to whats available–the voters usually sort such things out in the end.
But stuff that’s obviously been repurposed–like the mills turned into condos–would definitely *not* be what this theme is about.

ParticipantHrrmm..had a thought…what about stuff like animal sports–dogs catching frisbees, etc?
//not that I own a dog. But my cat plays fetch.
ravnostic
ParticipantFWIW, my aunt uses a Mac for her photography, a program called ‘Aperture’, which FWICT is something like ‘Photoshop’. She’s lost two hard drives in 2 months, and the program has been eating her pictures with abandon. She’s pretty pissed off about it and Apple has been little to no help.

ParticipantAn extreme close up of genital warts?
How the heck should I know?
//I haz a head-ache. I am in no mood for guessing.
ravnostic
ParticipantWe did do “These Foolish Games” last year, which excluded sports; this would just be it’s opposite.
ravnostic
ParticipantI have no idea what this is, but the colors are pretty.
