ParticipantPardon me for blogging up the dialog, but as the one who was consistantly, always, everytime, and forever picked last in every P.E. class from first grade through 12th, I offer up this:
If
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
[anyone who’s ever been an underdog on the field, or off]If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
[anyone who’s not given up, despite their own misgivings]If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
[anyone who’s played a game of chance and done so honorably]Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;
[anyone who’s been down on his luck, but carries on regardless and with poise]If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
[anyone who’s had the passion to continue despite the odds against them]If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
[anyone who’s tasted victory and defeat, and does so with class, either way]If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
[anyone who’s been ridiculed for a play, even when it was the right decision at the time]Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with wornout tools;
[anyone who’s made a comeback]If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
[anyone who’s risked it all for that one last shot]And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
[anyone who’s been humbled, but carried on]If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
[anyone who’s never given up, nor ever will]And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;
[anyone who’s gone the distance, and beyond it]If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;
[anyone who’s never forgotten their beginnings, and helped others to do the same]If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
[anyone who’s denied the nay-sayers, and proved them wrong]If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run –
[anyone who’s tried their best, right to the bitter end]Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!
[anyone who’s triumphed over seemingly insurmountable odds]‘Sport’ is persistence, determination, perseverance, effort, and a willingness to compete. “Sports” is any venue where these things are applicable.
With that in mind, if it’s the ‘orange’ wedge in “Trivial Pursuit”, then it should be included.
My humble opinion. YMMV.

ParticipantFarktographer; Too dark, in my opinion. But as I noted; there’s a lot of interpretations for this theme, so that’s only my 2 pesos. Of the 4 linked, I like the stairs, #1, best.
CISS If this is where you’re going with this, to what paypal address do I send the fundage? I’d be more than happy to donate a bit for the time you’ve put into it. It’s looking G-r-r-r-eat! so far!! (And the fundage may help defray bandwidth costs).

ParticipantI think I did well; of course, I don’t know all the other applicants or how they fared. Photography played a role in the interview; see the link in this forum for the cactus-climbing bobcat, and I described how I showed someone how to use curves in photography as an example of how I might train someone (they wanted something recent, and my aunt–who for cripes sakes has her work in galleries, doesn’t use curves!! I showed her how I use them while I was in Colorado.)

Participantorionid; I’m seeing a nice portrait of you, and if I’m not mistaken, you refer to the ‘negative’ ‘image’ of you in the shadows, but if that’s the point, then yes; I think it’s too subtle (and my subtle pics always bomb.) However, it’s very nicely done on it’s own. As for votes–like any of us could guess what the voters will like…
U-man; the solution is simple–you need to go through each and every farktography contest you’ve ever participated in and simply figure out if you’ve used it before. You have 5 hours. This should be enough time. 😀
ravnostic
ParticipantShould I get the position, it’s still 12 hour days; Every other Wed, then Thur-Fri-Sat. 6 minutes to interview time…

ParticipantYeah, not being a very sporty person, this kind of theme just does not remotely get me enthusiastic, and I’m not really sure what, if anything, I’ll be able to shoot for it. But I try to stay as neutral as possible when scheduling the themes.
This. But I shelled out $60 for a scanner to participate in a theme–I’ll be damned if I let my aversion to sports keep me from this one. Anyone know what sports are played in the summertime? Ice hockey? 😕

ParticipantYou go through windows? You Romeo, you!
//but I git it. Thanks for the clarification.
ravnostic
ParticipantI just wanted to tell you both good luck, we’re all counting on you.
LOL.
//Surely, Plama isn’t so slow on the uptake that he missed it the second time. 😛
ravnostic
ParticipantMe too. I actually played with that myself some with 1200 dpi scans of flowers and the crochet stuff. The detail at full size was wild.
^this^, as I was the one who floated the idea.
But I have to say–participation was quite low for this contest; the entries were strong, but the entrants were few. As many of us discussed the limitations of our respective scanners, I don’t know that a ‘macro-scanner’ contest would go over too well.
Not that I wouldn’t be a most enthusiastic cheerleader.
ravnostic
Participantand now I have a buttload of images I have to review for possible future contest inclusion.
You mean if/when we repeat the Scanner as Camera theme, as opposed to regular contests, right?
No, it’s in reference to my trip to the Colorado Rockies. Several images shot specifically for ‘In Deep Shadow’, and a vast plethora to choose from for ‘Volcanoes, etc’ (even harder still as I have a shot from April’s Tonto Ntl Mnmt shooting venture that simply *must* be in the contest). If you’ve never been to Telluride, go. Now. W.O.R.T.H. the gas to get there, in spades. One of the shots for ‘Shadows’, I feel, is one of my strongest yet. I hope the voters feel the same way–I’m absolutely in love with it.
As for a repeat scanner theme, I’d love to–but I’m sure that will be long down that winding contest road. OTOH, as I’ve dug through my belongings looking for the MIA wallet, I’ve gathered all my ‘film’ photos, in preparation for scanning. So in it’s own way, my new toy will get it’s share of use for contest purposes by way of getting my film shots into my archives for possible inclusion into future themes.
