Aye-yep. It’s as I suspected. That linkage is gone in mine.

Which, as it happens, I can cross-verify, as I went ahead and bought the craigslist one, with 8700 shutter triggers. I’ll take the old one in and see what they want to fix it; would be nice to have a 2nd body anyway; but it’s no longer a ‘gotta-have-now’ as I have a working body again.

//still will set me back a few. Will wait for the wallet to turn up (though I think I musta been pick pocketed or robbed, as I can’t think of a damned place to look for the wallet that I haven’t already checked.

    Much obliged, Chupa

zinc–You’ve no idea. I’m just crushed with no camera to point.

chupa; please do. And thank you.

The only thing I’m aware of is (was?) that Canon’s sensors have better red/IR response (good for astrophotographers)…I went with Canon because I had been wanting to try my hand at astrophography for years, and since I had no collection of lenses (moot point if you’re shooting prime focus anyway) Canon made more sense.

This, when I was a total newb. Not sorry for the decision; but I respect Nikon users anyway. Nobody’s perfect, after all. 😀

I’m frantically looking for the wallet I lost in my apt with $700 in it (which I hadn’t before, figuring I’d come across it eventually.) Wasn’t a priority when I didn’t need the money.

But I am so totally *nekkid* without a working DSLR. My aunt lent me her Nikon p/s after my Canon crashed. It was like going to the Indy 500 with a Volvo–my heart just wasn’t into just pointing and shooting, with so little creative control (nothing against the brand, but rather the lack of setting controls.)

If I can find that damned wallet, I’ll get a new, newer, improved body by Canon. If not, I’ll settle for a duplicate body off craigslist for $300. I’ve looked online; DSLRs are ridiculously priced right now, probably due to the Japan tsunami thing. I just *hate* the idea of buying something without a warranty. Yes, I’ll get to try it first, but who knows what they might not be telling me about it?

    *sigh*

Further searching shall now ensue. I suppose it’s possible that I got pick-pocketed, but I’m 95% sure I had that wallet in my home.

Long story how it was lost. Suffice it to say, don’t hide your wallet when you’ve been drinking.

besides, it’s a Canon. We would have had to sacrifice it to the Nikon gods for your sins…

    Hmph. 🙄

orionid No, you may not. I’ve had my own luck at equipment manipulation (the DP project, the faux tilt lens), and I may have further luck.

Farktographer, you know, both batteries had their moments being charged on an inverter in my aunt’s truck, and I had my doubts about the safety of that. I’ve recharged the more depleted one this evening, and in a moment, before I hit the hay, I will check the camera and see if perhaps the battery charged properly may make a difference. It’s possible that the inverter screwed them both up, but unless I purchase a new battery to truly test that, I won’t know for sure if the recharge gamble doesn’t pay off. And since, if I must buy a new camera body, it isn’t likely it will use the same battery (damn Canon for that), I don’t know that I’d invest in purchasing one to test it further.

That wallet with $700 I lost Memorial Day (in my little studio apt)? Yeah, I REALLY will be looking for that if it doesn’t, as then it won’t hurt at all to invest in a new body; in fact, it’s what I’d kinda thought the casino winnings might go towards anyway. I wasn’t too eager to find it before as I figured it to be a non-interest-bearing savings account; but now, I have motivation to look much harder.

Reading around some forums, lots of things can give the Err99. I see shutter replacements (I’m near 40K photos, but the shutter can be triggered by other things, so probably over 40K releases and 50K is the ‘mean’–1/2 above, 1/2 below fail). Since in performing the manual shutter clean feature, the shutter also doesn’t expose itself, that’s a potential. The mirror lockup not working too? So that could be a further problem, which would cost some bucks as well I’m sure–and if I can’t identify which if not both is the problem, I think a replacement body may be in order.

I think maybe I’ll have to get me a new body. Or a new ‘used’ body, gently used (I’m loath to the idea of buying 2nd hand as I don’t know what problems may come with it, though.)

I guess maybe I’ll have to start looking.

Sucks. I lost the 1/2 day of shooting in the Colorado Mtns, the shots I intended to take on my way back to Phoenix, and any efforts for new shots for future contests until I get it replaced. Not to mention the money to replace it, which I can do, but would rather spend elsewhere.

I’ve looked forward to this for a while, esp. as I’ve posted two well-voted entries recently that were inverted. Hopefully, I’ll have a new or repaired camera body by then.

//camera body, not my own. That’s beyond repair and replacement. 😉

That’s my short week so I’ll be there if:

    1) I don’t get the promotion and find my schedule changed and
    2) I either have repaired my Canon xTi or replaced or upgraded to another (see ‘hardware’ post.)

mopsy, I can’t decide if you should read palms or go into business as a soothsayer. Thanks for the encouragement!

//I’ve already thought of hows to duplicate the effect for ‘Trickier’, but using an actual camera.

Best 60 bucks I’ve spent in some time, CISS. I’ll have to start scanning my old photos soon.

x^0; yeah, um; about the beer shot. No covering; straight on glass. But it’s not beer.

One of them stones (a small one, from the other shot) was placed into an empty (but definitely imbibed beforehand) can of Bud. Beer is too liquidish, and no color would come of it; I tried with a very *small* amount in a test, figuring that would be the case.

So I opted for corn syrup, a tiny bit of yellow food coloring, and used a fork to whip bubbles into it, which worked out rather nicely. The stone in the can made sure it was positioned to where you could see the red tab on the can. The syrup was poured directly on the bed (oh so very carefully, with a streak for the can to lay within)

Cleanup was messy and involved a lot of paper towels in small batches, always sweeping inward with a fresh lot of them, toward the center of the scanner, to prevent any from reaching the edge of a marble-verified non-tilted scanner bed. Followed with moistened towels doing the same, followed by windexed towels. Almost a whole roll of paper towels in the clean up.

But I think I wound up with all three in the top ten, and I’m pretty certain I haven’t done that before; needless to say, I’m pleased.

Usually after a 1st place, I tank the next week.

Do not–I repeat–do NOT presume that I plan on continuing that trend.

Thanks ALL for the congrats–I’m pleased as punch and surprised as hell, and now I have a buttload of images I have to review for possible future contest inclusion.

I’ll echo Elsinore’s earlier comment on the orionid shot. I don’t see why you’d be messing much with the image to begin with. But that’s just me.

For Clouddancer I agree with the others, though I’m in Colorado visiting my aunt, who’s in two gallery showings that I wanted to be able to see, so I can’t view on my newer better monitor.

I can say that it appears we all have some differences of opinion on what this theme is about, and I’m glad there will be a nice tolerance for how each of us will interpret the theme. 😀 I think I may have gotten one entry while I was casually taking snapshots around her home, but maybe not. I forgot my CF card reader and it takes forever to download a few images from the camera directly.

ps; 1 edit. Any reason the command doesn’t work here?

I work all Friday nights, and 1/2 the Saturday nights. I interview for a training position this Wed, though, and if I get that (chances slim to good–depends on who I’m competing with), then I’d be on the day shift and DEFINITELY up for it. Elsewise, Saturday works best for me.

Not sure why you’d want to visit Arizona during the summer, but I hope you have fun. If for some odd reason you have any time off, we should get an Arizona farktographer meeting going up in phoenix.

This. And I hope I can give caradoc a run for his money this year!

Ems_5526 seems PERFECT to me. Please say that’s something like what we’re going for here.
