ParticipantSure. What is your question?

ParticipantI wanted to do this one but didn’t.
White Chuck Taylors. White tube socks with some sort of dorky white-guy stripes at the top. Jumping about 5 inches high. White background. Framed from the floor to just below the knees.
White men can’t jump.
I plan to use one where the subject (snow) is white. But the non-white setting is important and the white part is only 50%ish of the pic. We talked about it earlier, but does that sound OK for the “dominant white theme”?

ParticipantPerhaps you could get things rolling by trying something for next weeks Season’s Greetings and see where it takes you.

ParticipantHaha U-Man, that sounds like trying to get pics of the family here. One at a time, I can usually manage, but they get exponentially more squirmy the more of them there are. I think I might try sedation next time – though I’m not sure if that’ll be for me, or them 😉
One of the things I like about digital photography is that I can take bunches of pics to try to get the one. Y’know?
Thinking about pics with lots of people made me remember this one. The black girl is one of my daughters friends and I took her and my three girls up to Mopsy’s this past summer. I shot this one as a joke (with my girls, niece and nefews) to e-mail back to her mom. Then I chickened out because I didn’t know her mom’s sense of humor that well and didn’t want to totally freak her out.
SAFETY FIRST!

ParticipantSo, it’s a little bit bright then? 8)

ParticipantI’m in the Midwest. I like snow. The Midwest just had a winter storm. My sister in Green Bay got 14 inches of snow in less than a day. Mopsy probably got the same. It was 3 degrees F yesterday. There is a ‘White’ theme coming up.
….somehow, there was a snow-hole in this storm and we got less than an inch. Not nearly enough for a good white pic.

ParticipantOlavf, thanks. That one started out with trying to do this one – http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/4_9468.jpg . I wasn’t happy with how the pic with all four of my ladies was going. The brightness gradient across the four was more than I expected. The little one was super wiggly. I was shooting with a 50 mm that is nice for portraits because of the shallow DoF – but is hard to focus for the same reason. 🙂
Anyway, I called it off. These two stayed and I did a few more. Then my lovely wife started being silly for the camera. While there was nothing even close to nudity, I don’t think she’d be really happy for me to throw those pics out on the intertubes. 🙂
I might try a sitting with these two again. Because I agree, that pic is close to being really good.

ParticipantThanks from me too, soosh.
My day job let’s me buy good lenses and other camera stuff I don’t need but really want. Plus it’s really hard and rewarding; so I plan to do it for a while longer. Like others have written, I’m a bit afraid that if photography were my job, it wouldn’t be as much fun.
Change o’ topic. – Earlier tonight, my wife and I were going through the pics in this theme. She and I agree that the Marlboro Man is numero uno. It captures the essence of the theme really well. She saw it and said, “I like that one. It looks like the Marl… Hey! That’s the title.” 🙂
Then we went further and saw some dude’s pics of mining ruins. She commented that there was some other fool who likes photographing dirty abandoned stuff like I do. Then she said, “Oh. It’s soosh. He’s kinda crazy isn’t he?”. I said, “Yeah. Kinda. I think he’s smart and crazy”. 🙂 (I had to google ‘magnesium ribbon’. Neat stuff. Is it fun? I mean, like, mildly dangerous fire-stuff fun?)

ParticipantOh yeah? Well you can just kiss off into the air, behind my back, I can see that stare. They’ll hurt me bad, but i won’t mind, they’ll hurt me bad, they do it all the time. yeah yeah, yeah they do it all the time. yeah yeah, they do it all the time, yeah yeah, they do it all the tiiiiiiiiiiime
You, my dear, are an interesting lady. Photography, belly dancing (as a crude substitute for the actual words that have fallen out of my head), Linux, Violent Femmes.
/I know you’re not my dear but it went with the sentence.

ParticipantOh yeah. Totally. Sleep is precious.

ParticipantStill chuckling at NBD’s miffedness.
Never seen egregiously written before. It’s an odd word.
Els, I wasn’t complaining. I was trying to commiserate with you. Sucky situation. Not gonna talk about it anymore. Probably. Maybe.
U-Man
ParticipantWell clearly that’s already the case
Yeah. Unfortunate.
Let’s keep it pretty loose. I think that folks will recognize that this is a somewhat touchy issue this week and won’t want to rock the boat. I don’t think it will be a slippery slope for future themes.
C’mon. We’re playing for bragging rights, not cash and prizes. The main idea is to grow as a photographer and have a forum to show off your stuff and get feedback.

ParticipantDon’t take me wrong – I recognize the the description says one light source. megain’s could/should be DQ’ed. I’m just saying that this would be a biatch to police because there will be many offenders but their photos will be low-key. They just won’t follow the rules exactly.
One way of approaching this dilemma would be to strictly follow the rule. Another would be to allow some bending of the rule. Either way – somebody is gonna be miffed.
