ParticipantIn the course of getting a picture for this theme, I discovered that the glowstick chemicals don’t work when exposed to citrus.
#1 – Did you actually take the chemicals out of the stick?
#2 – Don’t forget about the no citrus difficulty.U-Man
ParticipantWhat is film? Sounds like you might damage your sensor if you put it inside your camera.

ParticipantI didn’t know you were in Peoria- I go thru there now and again. We’ll have to catch up and have coffee sometime.
That would be cool. I’ll email you some contact info.

ParticipantPeople dressed in lion , tiger or bear costumes. Good or not?
My input – sure, why not? I’d say that only a few of us have easy access to real ferocious critters.

ParticipantThanks for responding. I’ll check them out later. I hear the little one waking up from her nap.

ParticipantI didn’t read all of these posts carefully so excuse me if I’m redundant. While I can find my way around a computer fairly well, there is a lot that is beyond me. When, after thrashing around for a while, I admit defeat, I turn to my ‘computer guy’. He’s one of those self-taught old hackers. Anyway, he related that he once got 8 gigs of pics out of a 1 gig card with recovery software. It all hides in there somewhere – voodoo to me.
btw – good point xenpix. I’m going to start doing that as well.

ParticipantYeah. It was set on AWB. I think that setting the WB properly will fix most of my pano issues.
U-Man
ParticipantIs your camera possibly set on auto WB rather than manual?
That’s gotta be it, don’t you think? I’ll check.

ParticipantSee, when I think HDR, I think of the details you can bring out of the darkness.
Yep. It’s slowly sinking in.
Off topic sidebar – I can’t stop playing with the panoramic stuff. Here’s one from tonight. I can’t figure out how to keep the seams out of the sky. Perhaps it is the lack of a true pano head?

To keep this thread clean, I’m also going to post this in another forum.

ParticipantI shoot with both the Canon 20D and 40D. The 20D is my travelling companion – always in the car, always in the boat.
I like your shots alot. I don’t know why, but when I think of HDR I picture big scenes. I’m going to have to try some smaller scale stuff like that.

ParticipantDuh. I was taking some pics today and the error I had typed earlier hit me. Yeah, for the few HDR pics I’ve done I shoot in aperture priority and use auto bracketing. I have only done HDR using three exposures, ususally normal and +2, -2 or +1, -1. Is there a significant benefit to including more of the in-between exposures?
soosh, about the auto ISO – to be honest, I don’t know if it changes or not. The way your question is stated leads me to believe that its locked. My hunch is that its locked if I use manual but I’m not sure if it is with aperture priority.
U-Man
ParticipantHow many images is that from?
You don’t need to use RAW for HDR, but it can help. I just lock everything down (white balance, aperture, focal length, ISO), and use jpegs.
(This discussion is very relevant to this contest)
Three photos. 1/100, 1/400, 1/1000 sec. f13, ISO 800.
If I shoot in shutter priority mode, focal length and aperture are fixed. Are white balance and ISO locked as well? Or would I need to shoot in manual mode?
After my initial reading about HDR, I thought that RAW was almost mandatory. I guess not. Perhaps I’ll play with jpeg’s in HDR.

ParticipantCorsec67 and schnee – Thank you very much for your input.
Call me a n00b, an un-purist or perhaps progressive – but I favor the crazy HDR that looks almost like a painting or cartoon. While I can see the value of realistic HDR, that stuff from http://stuckincustoms.com/2006/06/06/548/ really catches my eye.
After playing with the trial version of Photomatix (not photomatrix) a bit I just bought it. Here’s one I did last night.

I typically don’t shoot in RAW – partially because it chews up memory but primarily because I don’t understand it. However, I think I’ll be doing a lot more bracketed, RAW stuff just in case I want to try out the scene in HDR.
/ I think that this relates to this theme but if the discussion should continue in another forum just let me know.

ParticipantWhat swampa said. Even seeing a picture of that is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Kids today wouldn’t understand that. That’s sort of a shame because everybody who has heard it has a visceral understanding.
