ParticipantElsinore #1 and U-Man #3…is there a way a can vote *against* those entries? Yeesh. 🙂
With a comment like that and a Farktography birthdate in July of ’08 one might think that you’re new here. However, I see that you have been aquainted with Fark since 2003. You certainly know that real photographic talent is recogized and appreciated. But you also know that oddities, humor, WTF and theme twists are frequently rewarded. 🙂

ParticipantQuestions –
I had a computer crash after the last HDR theme so, other than PS2, I have no HDR software. I went to the Qtpfsgui download page and was confronted with a choice. The new version 1.9.2 or the stable version 1.8.12. What should I use?
Is the photoshop HDR software any good?
What do you guys think about Photomatix? http://www.hdrsoft.com/

ParticipantIn my search for ideas for this theme I typed “terminal” on dictionary.com. One definition regarding architecture referred to a “herm”. I was curious about this word. Here’s what the dictionary says – http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/herm (1st definition).
Odd.

Participant…but would probably also have to agree that they would not fit in with the rules…
Yeah. I guess I forgot to acknowledge that in the beginning of my last post. I wasn’t trying to influence the jury. 🙂

ParticipantI actually had two ideas. I work at a hospital and I was going to try a shot like this – Cardiac monitor in the foreground, in focus, with a flat-line. One of the residents in their ‘doctor coat’ talking with someone in street clothes in the background, slightly out of focus. Titled something like “We did everything we could…”
The other would be my wife and kids (or maybe just one of them, or maybe holding the little one) holding hands in front of a grave. Shot from behind. Setting sun in the distance.
Morbid, I know. But real and possible powerful.
/Many days I go home and give my family an extra big hug because of something I saw at work. Recognizing how fortunate we are today. Right now. We’re not guaranteed tomorrow.

Participantso I wouldn’t think it should qualify.
Uuuuuuh. So that’s a “No, don’t use that idea”. Right? 🙂

ParticipantPrint out and bring Krages’ excellent page on Photographer’s rights.
I’ve read this before and came here to ask where I could find it. Thanks! That’s mighty speedy service.
I agree with olavf, this will be a more interesting theme if terminal is defined loosely.
I know. I read the difficulty – But I have one idea that relates to termial illness or death. It wouldn’t actually show anybody who was ill or dead though. The way I picture it in my head is very tasteful and could be powerful. A living, sad person is pictured but the subject is death and dying. Should I even try this one or would it be automatically booted because of the difficulty?

ParticipantWe could write that into the theme description if that would help.
Yeah. Probably should to avoid confusion and hurt feelings.
Could it be as simple as “Photograph neon-type lights, signs, etc.”? In the first discussion there seemed to be some agreement that we’re just looking for cool pics of cool lights – not an arguement about physics and chemistry.

ParticipantI am thinking of using this picture, but not sure if it leans too much to the red spectrum.. http://flickr.com/photos/23816487@N03/2806061020/sizes/l/
And how do I post a picture here? it never seems to work for me..
That’s orange enough for me. Consider cropping out the boat to make a cleaner look. Just a thought.
As far as posting pics here, I just cut and paste the URL from my photo’s properties, highlight it and click the “Img” box between the “List=” and “URL” boxes. But thanks for the cheats Snug Tight.

Participantthat’s really cool. What are you using to stitch them? I tried doing a large pano of the glacier earlier today, but I didn’t think to set the exposure to manual, so there was a lot of variance in the shot.
If you’re referring to me, Photoshops CS2. While I usually remembered to set exposure manually, I think I need to have more overlap of the frames when I try this out in the future. It just seemed like a good idea to squeeze as much as possible out of each frame and then try to put them together. I might try that loooong building again with more frames so that I avoid the sharp angles.
Does that sound reasonable to the more experienced out there?

ParticipantHere’s one I did just last night. I didn’t think it was good enough to post, but I’ll show it to y’all.

ParticipantMan, frickin’ five hour board meetings after work suck. Especially when you forget your laptop at home so you can’t post early during the blah-blah at the metting. Whah-whah. Boo-hoo.
This is a cool theme. My Peoria, Il shot is the third panoramic I have ever stitched. Personally, I’m pretty happy with it. I have been pleasantly surprised at at how relatively easy it is to get decent results. I agree with corsec67, I’d like to see this one again in a year or so. I can picture certain settings that a pano is the only way to capture the feeling. Man, I wish I had done some of this before I encountered the rainbow in my other post. As you can tell, it is simply a skinny crop of a wide angle shot (10mm with a 1.6X mag due to the DLSR sensor). I have some others that you’ll see sometime that I shot from on top of my Jeep Cherokee – so I could get over the damn 8 foot tall corn – that would have been really nice as a pano. I could barely get the scene in with the 10 mm. On the other hand, I was fighting time as the sun was setting and all of the delicious light was fading. I don’t know if I would have taken the time to set it up.
Anyway. Cool theme. Good ideas to try out for myself. Continued growth.
/Oh, by the way, during that 10 or 15 minutes I had to photograph that rainbow, my 20-month-old was in the back seat. I had taken her with me to get her out of my wife’s hair while I played photographer. I’m pretty sure she thought it was strange that Daddy was standing on top of the car. 🙂

ParticipantFlavivirus, Astounding. I can see why you are proud of it. If I had such an inspired idea and then actually accomplished it (with a bunch of work), I’d be proud of it too. Well done.
corsec67, uuhhh. That 2nd place is looking more likely. 🙂

ParticipantI haven’t cropped it because I like how it covers a full sphere, with the two holes, one for the tripod, and the other because I couldn’t tilt the camera up enough.
That’s cool. Just throwing it out there.
You might have to wait another week for that elusive #2. That just might be a #1 photo there.
/don’t mean to jinx you or anything.
//just made crazy ‘magic hex fingers’ at my monitor. 🙂U-Man
Participantthis is the only pano i’ve done so far
It got all grainy, though, and I’m not sure how that happened.
soosh, that’s a crazy pic. Almost monochrome on the left and that rainbow on the right give it a wierd discordance. I don’t know if I like the feeling or not. I will say that it’s better than anything I can do at this point. 🙂
corsec67, that parking garage is a kick-ass photo. I really like the vertical presentation. Do you think that it would be better or worse if you cropped the bottom up to the cement floor?
