I would like an opinion if this would be “in theme”

This was only done in Hugin, with a final rotation that is always ok.

Can I vote for it yet?

I tried to do a stitched railroad track for vertical presentation with completely sucktastic results.

As far as your question Elsinore – I weighed in before. I think that an ALARA approach is OK. (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). We’ve got to do some selective stuff. We just can’t go crazy.

Would that qualify for entry into this contest?

I was thinking that it was too “processed” to be used here, but if I could use it…

I’m certainly not the judge and jury on this one but I think that it fits a panoramic better than a simple skinny crop. Just how proccessed is it? It looks like a nightmare of a stitch – any other fancy/selective stuff?

/plans to use at least one skinny crop because my n00b attempts at stitching look like….n00b attempts.

And in another attempt, I ended up making the inside of a building look like a doughnut

That is sweet – in an M.C. Escher sort of way. How about presenting it vertically?

Oh, believe me – I know the feeling.

It’s like the half-naked chicks. They just show up, begging for photographs.

    (And, no, I’m not joking…)

Yeah. Know what you mean. *grabs crotch briefly* ‘Cept with me they’re completely naked.

    (Joking. Definitely joking. 🙁 )

Not nearly as much a cheap shot as cute children or kittens, I think…

    You were expecting artistic taste?

Yeah kittens puppies and kids are cheap shots.

…U-Man seen slinking away with shoulders hunched, eyes darting back and forth… 🙂

Yeah, I’m guilty of the “kid pic” (and the occasional lack of artistic taste). But they’re THERE. Y’know? Just waiting to be photographed. Plus I just plain like to take those pics. The snapshot with something more to it than just a snapshot.

On a different note – There seemed to be an abundance of good photos this week. So many of them are just nice to look at. The top 20 is loaded with, ‘Oh yeah. That’s cool.”

Thanks. I had a few others from that series I thought of using, but I did too much channel mixing with the colors to consider them, even with the new rules.

All three are fantastic! Road flares for each? I especially like the middle one.

I had some difficulty choosing as well. Here’s some I was considering.

I chose not to use the first four because I have similiar ones in I See Your Point, Nature, Boats and Trees/A Second of Your Time, repsectively. The last one I took outside of work. I walked by the fountain, liked what I saw, went to my car and grabbed the camera and came back.

I had a hard time picking three this week so I’m posting couple more here for your enjoyment and/or feedback.

Yeah. The barbed wire one is really good. It has a nice color gradient that I find pleasing. I like the floral eclipse, too. But there is something about it that bugs me that I can’t put my finger on. Perhaps it is the very narrow depth of field and I would like another part of the flower in focus. Was there a breeze that caused motion blur? Something about the sharpness.

    It’s a cool photo nonetheless.

btw, in my opinion, you chose correctly between the wildfire sunset and the wall of grass. Both good, but the one you used is better.

By the way, in searching the files I found more silhouette stuff than I can use. I plan on avoiding the ant-on-leaf shadow issue. However, I consider that style a silhouette and if someone else uses a good photo like that, it’ll get my vote.

I’m interested in what sort of variety we’ll get tonight.

Is there something else other than the slender woman in that photo? I’ll have to check again.

    /nope. didn’t notice anything else. 🙂

//kidding. she might need a sammich.

Yeah, for a contest that allows stitching the frames together, I think we have to allow some extra leeway to make that happen. There was some leeway in the original Stitches theme as well.

    Cool.

I have discovered that too many pics stitched together look like crap when viewed at 640 px max width. All you get is a thin ribbon of what-is-that. Picture this half-size.

I live in the Midwest. There’s lots of corn here. What can I say? 🙂

Related question – How do you do the clicky-pop thing on a pic to link to a larger file?

I know the difficulty states that shadows can’t be the main focus of the shot. I have a macro pic of an ant on the other side of a leaf backlit by the sun. It casts a nice silhoutte – but it’s a shadow. Acceptable or not?

Kinda like this one I used for Mmmm bokeh. http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Ant_2836a.jpg

I have others if this one is not OK.

    It’s a chainsaw carving.

    Doesn’t look anything like a chainsaw. 😛

    /works for me. SFW too.

I’ve never used PS for panoramics so I got out yesterday evening and got some basic shots to stitch together. I’m in the very early stages of playing with them and have a question. Sometimes the frames don’t fit exactly. I could pretty easily make them look at least OK with some simple selective photoshoppery. Is that sort of thing allowed in this contest or is it still right out?

Damn. I didn’t have the e-mail alert thing clicked and I missed this whole thread. Thanks to the folks who gave the juggling pic a thumbs-up. I have to admit that it turned out pretty photoshoppie. I also have to admit that the idea came from my wife. I had planned to do a person standing on a hand with someone else standing on their hand. Her idea was better so I went with it.

The more I get into this photag stuff the more enticing soosh’s recipe for photographic genius becomes. I really like where my brain is when I’m behind a camera. However, the day-job is really cool in a challanging, worthwhile sort of way. Then there’s the kids who think I’m stronger that Superman. My soul-mate is pretty nice to have around too.

/good to recognize that the grass is pretty green on this side of the fence.
