The important thing is to have something to submit, to learn something while you find your pictures and learn even more when you see what other people did with the contest. To have fun! 🙂

This. This is what Farktography has done and continues to do for me.

It is pretty cool how we all come here for something. We’re all getting something out of it. And somehow in the taking we provide a piece of the entire thing.

I haven’t had time to shoot much specifically for this theme. While I have one, maybe two, new pics, I was going over some old ones tonight. I have a decent shot but I used a similiar one in a different contest. Not at all trying to be pushy here, but does anybody have an idea when the FSM will be resuscitated? I’d like to check the one that I used so that I don’t duplicate.

/if Wed rolls around and the FSM is still gone I’ll just pick something else.
//Hmmm. Maybe this is like the drug dealer thing. Initially, schnee gives us all the goodness for free. Then, when we’re hooked, when we can’t live without it, he puts on the squeeze.
///damn, I was going to include the link for FSM donations here. But I can’t get to the FSM. 🙂

I enjoy this stuff. Thanks for responding.

I haven’t found the time to break out the Canon booklet. But I will. In trying to answer jpatten’s question about ISO setting, I find that I can’t. I don’t know where to look. I have this little Adobe Photoshop Album program that I bought 6 or 7 years ago (and don’t use anymore) that will display some properties like f-stop, shutter speed and camera name. But it doesn’t have all of the settings.

How can I find that other stuff?

You guys are smart. Thanks alot.

ISO setting? I don’t know what I was at. I’ll have to check the file when I get home. As I said, I was just taking a swing at it to see how it worked. I may try a 22 minute exposure with the cap on to map the noise and then subtract in PS.

    Congrats on another win, U-Man!

Thanks. While I liked my shot, I didn’t really expect it to win. There were several in the top 20 that I really liked. My personal favorite was Stompin_Tom’s. I’d like to see a bigger version of that one.

On to the trick photography! I mainly took the non-technical way out and played with perspective. I’ll be interested in what the rest of you geeks (I mean that in a good way) came up with.

I noticed that as well. Sort of a bummer.

Would you folks say something like this shows enough flow to be considered a worthy entry ?…I’m having to dig deep into the archive vault for this one.

I like it. Top 20. Use it.

Guess Staplermofo and I should have gone with it afterall 😉

First thing my twisty brain thought of. It was sort of hard trying to fit it into an acceptable photo.

Wa’? ‘E’s not dead. ‘e jus’ ‘ad a bit of a mis’ap. Lost the eye, y’know. Swims sideways now ‘e does. Always lookin’ at the bottom, ‘e is.

My input – use #4. If that is right out, use #1

I had some idea for this one. One is OK. The others just sorta turned out craptastic. Better in my mind than on “film”, ya’ know? I’ve got some time tomorrow though.

and where’s the line between a skinny crop and a panorama? 2:1… 3:1?

Good question. I don’t know the answer.

Just did a quick Google – Wikipedia says this…

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panoramic_photography

I like the angle definition of >160 degrees.

Is there any chance we could get the 640 px widened for this contest?

Zekes entry also became the new highest vote getter.

It was really done well. When I first looked at it, I was just kinda “hey look, the cat is following the treats”. Then I saw the spider and my brain took that fraction of a second to figure it out before I said “HA!”. 🙂

/While I think that it is cool that this theme was so popular, my cat is pretty bummed. Perhaps instead of going for the interesting perspective with the 10-22 mm in his face I’ll try the 300 mm from further away next time.

My cat thinks that this theme sucks. He has informed me that, if it is ever repeated, I am not allowed to participate.

‘mofo, :). You have a way with words.

I have cats in my home. I have yet to get a shot of them where they aren’t making the statement “GET THAT FARKING STAPLER AWAY FROM ME AND SHOVE THAT CAMERA UP YOUR NOSE YOU JERK!“

Sacrifice a stapler and put tuna inside of it.
