    Happy Birthday Eden…!

So far everything’s in but the extension tubes. They are officially a day late now…

The weather here’s been crap and I haven’t been able to play with my toys… hell, speaking of yard work, the weather’s been so bad I’ll need a baler to wrangle it once we finally get a dry day

    *sigh*

All three of mine were shot like that and in the archive.

    Just sayin’

They’ll still end up about 34th or so…

When she bought the camera, my wife sprung for the annual cleaning. Given the fact that I’ve taken at least 15K pictures this year (a vast majority of them being lousy), I’m willing to risk the DTs to keep it running longer.

It’s going to have to wait a week or 2 until I play with my new toys a bit, though.

Take the laptop. Unless you’ve got a deck of cards you’re gonna need a data dump. If you’re worried about using it, leave the charger at home (assuming you have a good battery), then you’ll be limited to using it only for storage.

I’m with chupa on this. While I’m sure you’ll be better prepared than I was, a few years ago I took a weekend trip to John Brown’s Farm near Lake Placid. While at the farm my memory card got full (old camera, tiny card), but because I had the laptop, I was able to off-load the pics, re-format the card and continue. This was a lesson I learned while on a cruise. 7-day cruise, and about 2-3 days in, the card had filled up. I had to pay $10 to get the card dumped onto a CD because I had forgotten my laptop’s power cable, and had burned up the batter in an airport.

It was COLD today (36 degrees F). Yesterday’s game was rained out. They were reported to be doing a double-header, but due to forecasted snow (which as of 11 pm hasn’t hit yet) they returned to a single game. Due to the day game element, I got some good high speed shots (check out the ball in the air on the first shot). Did I mention it was cold? Look for people in the stands in winter coats… (I tweaked the color balance in favor of blues and greens to hint at the cool temps.)

I like this shot, because bloody well everybody but the runner’s looking at the towering pop fly (well, I guess the ump’s watching the shortstop to be sure he catches it cleanly). It was caught, and his efforts were futile, but I still like the shot for being a little different than others I’ve taken &/or posted.

Where can I get instructions on stacking for night sky shots? The campus I adjunct at is way out in the middle of nowhere. It’s still subject to some light pollution, but nothing like what I get in my suburban home backyard. First relatively cloud-free Tuesday night will be a longer than usual commute home (even with my usual stopping for night shots).

Happy Birthday Yugo. Mine was 4/17 and I have birthday cash to spend but I can’t decide what I want. I’m thinking either extension tubes or a 50 mm prime lens. Decisions, decisions.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the tubes were the second cheapest thing on the list – under $10. Amazon’s got at least 2 sets listed under $10 (I went with the second cheapest set.) Prices can go way up above that, but when cash is limited, you don’t exactly need a Rolls Royce to get to the grocery store.

FWIW I picked up the remote today. Best Buy’s got a Rocketfish model for $14.99. We had $15 in RewardZone cash, so (because the subtotal’s got to be more than the rewards) for the price of a candy bar, I got the trigger.

Scranton-Wilkes-Barre is renovating their stadium this year, so the SWB Yankees are the Empire State Yankees for this, playing a solid half of their home games at our stadium (I don’t know where the other half is). The first 4 “home” games for the Yankees were against the Wings, resulting in the Red Wings wearing road greys against the “home” Yanks.

Shots from the 4 game “home” stand were all night games. This has been challenging, as I’ve had to jack up the ISO, and I still can’t shoot fast enough to make me happy. Fortunately, this isn’t a Farktography contest, so software can mask some sins.

    OH CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And actually, it should probably be the 9th, as that’s the closest to the original anniversary of May 12. Crap crap crap…

As for the scavenger hunt, I almost wonder if we shouldn’t come up with a long list of suggestions from everyone here that can be pre-vetted and used for the Fark thread. I’m just a little afraid even if we say from the get-go “No celebrities, no NSFW” it’ll be some other obscure thing that we don’t factor in that will get suggested there and chosen.

+1 to both ideas (although I have no idea what the Anniversary contest would entail).

Honestly, a couple/few weeks of lead time on the scavenger hunt list would be kind of nice. The title isn’t “procrastination” or “instant inspiration.” If we felt perky, maybe even link to it in the boobies for the few weeks leading up to it, so people who don’t usually frequent this forum have a bit less surprise, and participation might be a bit higher.

Not a chance… Gaussian Blur rules the Pshop Roost!

I heard back from Toronto Life today, they will be paying me $50 Canadian, which is like what, five hundred American? 😛

WOOT! I made my first print media sale!

Congrats, but your decimal went the wrong way… it’s like $5 American
    😈

(Not really, but the exchange rate is not in your favor for this one… just for that, you might ask them to send you a complimentary copy… if they won’t have Pope Larry II send you a copy. If it’s going to be on the shelves around Memorial Day, I can try to get you a copy, as we’re planning to head up there that weekend.)
