ParticipantAs for the ISO speed, I have a habit of shooting as low as possible because my little A700 produced a ton of noise at anythig above 100. It’s a habit that I will have to break. I also have a habit of shooting at as large an aperture as possible. The A700 was 2.8-8 and was totally useless at anything other than 2.8 or 4. I’m going to have to get used to that as well. I like the shallow DoF on the crane eye because it pulls the viewer’s focus to the eye itself, but that’s just my personal preference.
Depends on the type of shooting you’re doing. If you’re doing a lot of staged shots, ISO100 works just fine. Set your DOF as you want, and then use as long a shutter time as you need. Some of the candle lit shots I’ve done needed 8-10+ second exposures, but who cares so long as the subject isn’t moving. All depends on what you’re trying to capture. Now, shooting bees, yes, you need to get your shutter speed down as much as possible.
I know it isn’t what you’re supposed to do.
Says who? Are the photo nazis going to take you out back and flog you for breaking the rules? Nonsense. If it works for your style of shooting and produces the type of images you’re looking to make, roll with it. Sometimes the more artistic shots are done doing things “you’re not supposed to do.”

Participant/no rightsgrabbing issues on the Farktography forum, right? 😉
All kidding and joking aside, we should probably clarify this as well, just so there’s no mistakes/gaffes of a similar nature here, as well as the FSM. CYA, yadda yadda yadda. It can’t hurt to formalize things a bit and make sure there’s no concerns about who has rights to what.

ParticipantAs Elsinore has said (multiple times), it is being worked on and revised and will be changed soon. There’s an article posted to the Fark mainpage and a healthy discussion going on about this. Drew made the first post in that discussion. They’re working on it.
It would be a shame to see all you fine photographers quit based on this, especially if they revise their policy. Let’s stick around and see what happens.
My understanding is the issue is being taken extremely seriously, and that Drew is actively working on correcting the issue. I absolutely agree, let’s settle down a bit, go into this with an open mind, and give them a chance. They’ve shown they honestly are trying to make things right.
As mike already pointed out, next week’s contest will probably consist of mostly re-posts anyway. That’s a boon for us because it buys anyone who is nervous an extra week.
So yeah, things are not optimal at the moment, but the situation should improve drastically very soon.

Uhm. Next week is Sports? The anniversary is May 9th, and not for 13 days…

Participant(After a burst of gunfire from the Mystery Woman, Jake climbs to his feet, covered in mud from the tunnel floor.)
Jake: It’s good to see you, sweetheart.
Mystery Woman: You contemptible pig! I remained celibate for you. I stood at the back of a cathedral, waiting, in celibacy, for you, with three hundred friends and relatives in attendance. My uncle hired the best Romanian caterers in the state. To obtain the seven limousines for the wedding party, my father used up his last favor with Mad Pete Trullo. So for me, for my mother, my grandmother, my father, my uncle, and for the common good, I must now kill you, and your brother.
Jake, slowly falling to his knees: Oh, please, don’t kill us! Please, please don’t kill us! You know I love you baby! I wouldn’t leave ya! It wasn’t my fault!
Mystery Woman: You miserable slug! You think you can talk your way out of this? You betrayed me!
Jake: No I didn’t. Honest! I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN’T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!!
(Elwood covers his head in anticipation of more gunfire.)
(Jake removes his sunglasses to make a wordless appeal, and the Mystery Woman visibly softens.)
Mystery Woman: Oh, Jake… Jake, honey…
(Jake embraces the Mystery Woman and they kiss.)
Jake, to Elwood: Let’s go.
(Jake drops the Mystery Woman and walks off.)
Elwood shrugs and says to the Mystery Woman as he steps past her: Take it easy.
(They run down the passage to the car. Mystery Woman follows in the distance.)
(Scene cuts to Jake and Elwood getting in the car. The doors on the car slam shut.)
Elwood: It’s a 106 miles to Chicago. We got a full tank of gas, half a packet of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.

ParticipantSing it brother. I came for the floor show, and stayed for the company. The look of the site had nothing to do with it. That’s not to say I’m a big fan of the new layout by any stretch — but the threads going ape shiat over the change of the look are downright comical 😉
/Edit: Plus, now that the initial crying and gnashing of teeth is over, and maybe some caching is kicking into gear, TF seems to be moving just dandy 🙂
//Second Edit, looks like people got done with dinner and came back to complain more. Hang on, could be bumpy tonight…

ParticipantFor the liters: its a new style sheet layout for the site. And don’t worry, they’re supposed to go live with it tomorrow, so you’ll get the first hand glimpse of it soon enough.

ParticipantGood call on the investment. Down the road you may want to upgrade, and those L lenses will go along with it. Worst case, even if Canon DOES change the lens mounting system, there’ll still be used 5Ds on EBay that they’ll work with nicely 🙂
