ParticipantWelcome, always good to have fresh names around. It’s amazing how fast one can improve while trying to compete each week in Farktography, I can attest to it! Got my XSi in February, started Farktography on a regular basis a month or two later, and everyone I know continually tells me how much I’ve improved in that time.

ParticipantFair enough, I’ll repost.
edit: reposted, this one can be nixed now: http://www.fark.com/comments/7258207/78593834#c78593834

ParticipantElsinore, no, I just desaturated all channels and bumped the vibrance some. No specific channel alterations at all. Just that the chain and gears are very close to silver compared to a very bright blue. As I went to post the photo I was struck with how it may look that I was going overboard. I’ll upload a SOOC version and link here in a moment for comparison if there is any question.
SOOC: https://picasaweb.google.com/102637182371352471338/FarktographyB_sides#5774462988772556162
Saturation/Vibrance Zeroed: https://picasaweb.google.com/102637182371352471338/FarktographyB_sides#5774462808973540162
As Submitted: https://picasaweb.google.com/102637182371352471338/Farktography#5774425600899376930
If its still too borderline to pass muster, I’ll resubmit the one without any saturation/vibrance adjustments.

ParticipantHad a few other ideas that I never got around to exploring, but when I have a house full of bicycles and a new 100mm Macro lens handy, there’s always a chain around to photograph. All 3 of my entries this week are of my 78 Gazelle road bike.

ParticipantYou’re making me want one of these… Just out of curiosity, what’s the minimum focus distance?
Google results says 1′, which sounds about right according to what I’ve experienced.
Nearly all photos in these two albums are with the new macro lens:

https://picasaweb.google.com/102637182371352471338/PhotographyNonNatureMacroHaven’t used it much for longer focus distances, but from the few I have, it’s just as sharp at beyond macro distances. Took some photos earlier this evening with my 55-250 and hope I’m not disappointed with the sharpness of those photos after using this 100mm for the last week straight.

ParticipantI’ll put this on the calendar and see what’s going on as the date gets closer. Granbury isn’t too much of a hike for me, especially if I opt to get a room near Ft Worth for the night and do some photography or a ride out that way the following day.

ParticipantThanks for all the hints and information. Talking with my friend it sounds like he wants to use the site mostly as a portfolio site for his graphic design work, possibly to help him in getting a new/better job in the near future. Doubt the galleries will get all that big at the time being, just need something easily customizable to get the look and feel he wants.

ParticipantSurprisingly low number of entries this week, and thus voting too. Figured with as wide open as the 4 options are there would be plenty of people jumping into the fray this week.

ParticipantIs fark running amazingly slow for anyone else? I can hit facebook and here without delay, but it’s taking like 30 seconds to post or preview in the thread.

ParticipantGoing to need a OBO for this one, leaving town Sunday morning prior and internet access will be limited at best. Anyone willing to help a fella out?

ParticipantI think I’m getting the hang of this thing (both lens and flash)

Strong Vignette applied in post, it’s not the lens! 😉 – and that’s a rather small butterfly, maybe an inch?
This one is cropped down quite a ways.
Bicycle chain and gears, indoors, hand held.
“The reason I bought the lens” – aka, how I’m going to try to justify writing off the cost against the modest profit I make from my cycling website.

ParticipantMinor crop, maybe 5-10% vertical, mostly horizontal crop down to 8×10. hand held, f5.6, 1/200 shutter. Got 4 shots of this guy, only one came out decent, wind was blowing him around on the flower plus he wasn’t exactly sitting still either.
